Any advice on starting a cherry tree from a pit? I'm not looking for fruit, just the flowers, since most fruit is spliced and bred a certain way it won't come out right...
I'd just like to know how I can start a seedling so I can replant the tree in my front yard when it's big enough.

Get a pot and place the seed in it. Water it. Put in a place for it to get sunlight and keep transplanting it until it big enough to go outdoors.

Place several pits out in the sun for a couple of days. That will give them time to dry. Then pot them as Fawn has said. You may nee to seperate the seedlings into different pots or, discard them. That is, if they all sprout.
It is importent that the pits dry out a little first.

They're quite dry...I've had em since last year when I was going to do this but never got around to getting potting soil.
Any idea how big it should be before I put it outside?

I'd let her get at least a good three feet high. Before transplanting her and leaving her.

Tree roots grow quickly - moreso then the tree itself. Be sure the that the pot is larger enough. Transplanting any tree is pretty tricky too. Idulge with water once you put her to earth.
She should bare fruit in about three years.

Cherry tree pits need a period of cold dormancy before planting them. The amount of time depends on what type of Cherry tree pit it is. The pit needs to be fresh in order for it to work properly. (If it is dry it probably won't work):(
Seeds can be Fall sown and will germinate the following Spring. Again it depends on type.
They can be propagated from cuttings as well and dipped in solutions of perlite, peat and rooting hormone powder.
Hope this helps.
