I will be publishing the "Relic Tarot" - it is a Tarot composed of ancient Celtic artifacts, illustrating the concepts of Tarot - soon.

If anyone is interested in images, please let me know. When it is available, I will be putting a thread into "Pagan Marketplace".

I am working out concepts for another one; whereas the 1st is montages of drawings of the artifacts superimposed over various elements such as scanned textures & computer-generated effects, this one will be based upon Alchemical imagery. I am actually planning out a 22-painting series which will be multi-panel per piece; the designs will be essentially the same, but adapted to the card size.

I am using the blank Tarot deck to paint upon; it is perfect as a smooth, primed surface. I am painting in egg tempera in the International Gothic style for a traditional feel, inspired by the Visconti; however, the compositions are going to be completely original & the concept original & unique.

I will be using real gold & silver on them, too! :)

I want it to be Med/Ren, & yet, new & different.

Just thought I'd share! :D

Oh - ok! :) I didn't want to offend any mods, but it's not for sale yet so it's not advertising - correct? :D

That is the gallery I set up, as I cannot possibly post the whole deck! ;) The Minors will indeed be posted, but gimme time! The deck is 12 cards away from complete, as of this writing. :D

But so as to give you a little sampling of what the images are like, I will pick out a few faves for your predilection! (I only have Majors available; I will return with Minors soon.)

Oh - & I have the proofs in ACTUAL card-form for this deck!! :D :D :D I was SO excited.

The other deck is only in the drawing stages. When I have painted cards to show, I will be sure to post again. :)

Ok, ok - I'm in the mood to share, so here go my sketches for the "Metaphorical"! :D (Be kind, por favor, they are so VERY rough & only plans for the big paintings!) Didn't finish coloring 2.

THANK you, Shatril!! I mean it, I feel VERY snubbed by the crowd at another website where everyone except me - very evidently! - is producing stuff that's wildly popular. Me, I bomb. Consistently.

But, that's kinda another forum, ain't it? :p

Anyhoo, I really appreciate the support deeply, & will be coming in with all my goodies!!! :D

I LOVE the look and relate to symbols in the Relic deck! :D

You've got a fan here with that fab Celtic imagery. Well done! :boing:

Danubhe, I think your deck might not be as "popular" because it uses drawings of actual celtic art. LOL (Laughing cuz I think that's a silly statement.)

I think we all love the look of things that are created by artists like Courtney Davis. It's pretty. We like the swirlies and the colors and all the layering of the knotwork, but it's not authentic (and by that I mean it's not ancient and created by the original celts, it's a modern interpretation of their work). And, let's face it... the real thing is not as "pretty" as the more modern versions of it. But, I like your deck for it's historical value and I like how you've incorporated the artifacts into the cards.

I'm not criticizing you at all! I'm just offering up a thought on why someone else might be doing so. But really, I don't think they're criticizing you, just the more "primitive" art. :hugz:

Oh, that is SOOOO on-the-mark!! ;) Basically, I've been telling myself that VERY thing - that it is crude, it is not "pretty", & so the images won't appeal to everyone.

The "Metaphorical" deck is only sketches, after all - but I've seen OTHERS with "sketches" who have had a LOT of support!! Me, NOTHIN'!! :(

Oh well - I will keep plugging, & come up with a beautiful hand-painted deck. I'll post it, & if I don't get any support still, I will simply go elsewhere, like here!! :D

Don't let them get to you, Danubhe! I love the Celtic imagery.

And can't wait to see the finished paintings for the Metaphorical. :)

I rather wish that Celtic Artists would spend more time exploring the pre-Viking/pre-Christian stuff - it may be "primitive", but I find it fascinating and beautiful.

Me too. :)

And the authentic imagery is exactly what I find so appealing about this deck.

WHEEEEEE!!! I am SOOOO jazzed!! :spinner:

As far as pre-Xtian imagery goes, I couldn't have said it better myself! :)

The "Alchemical" one will have those influences, of course - how could it not? - but I am searching for & unearthing the pre-Xtian roots of the art. I think that staying just shy of obvious Xtian refs will be difficult, but still, quite accurate in that in the secular life of ordinary people, there was still an awful lot of thinly veiled Paganism abounding - especially when the subject came to love & sex.

Planetary forces & such things touch upon the sphere of the non-Xtian mysticism that was contained in the Med/Ren eras; such was its draw, I suppose, that from the pre-X days to now, it never really did die out.

Well, no more lectures on that subject! ;) I'm just very interested in how Pagan themes fit themselves into essentially Xtian frameworks such as Tarot.

Are you referring to the Death card? Did I post The Sacrificed Man? That's another autumnal one. :) Glad you like!
