Yeah, well, I'm still hanging around this other forum. A place where they have a spot to share creative ideas. Just venting!!
TONS of people come in & announce their projects; they all seem to get standing ovations.
I come in with what I think are pretty nifty ideas, & you can hear the crickets chirpin'....
The thing of it is, I do have a BFA - which isn't everything, believe me I know!! But, I'm not just scribbling junk. I have ideas & they are good, too! So why do I flop over like a lead balloon with these folks?
I'm kinda thinking that they like a "professional" presentation - you know, a full website on the project; but the thing is, that doesn't even seem to hold true consistently. & someone - a 1-man publishing operation - is publishing me! (This place is where he found me to begin with!)
Again, just venting. Not much I can do about it, I don't think - but it really hurts, & it does help to get it out in the open....

There are certain folk who only think THEIR ideas and those of a certain clique are the only ones that matter. Don't worry about them they only want to talk to you if you agree with THEM. Kind of like some cults. It will pass. Art snobs. You have to find your niche. My niece is an AMAZING artist who has the same art degree and has had the same problems getting recognized. Unless you are one of those people that has the right connections and blow a great big booger onto a canvas and get rave reviews, just keep plugging darling. The "art world" is a fickle beast.
May the Muses be with you,

There's a whole lot of people on MW... easy to be snowed under. So yeah, presentation does help. It's like commercials on television: how else is that new thing going to be sold like cookies?
I understand the feeling of desiring recognition. If what you have to offer is good enough, it'll find its way. It may be slow, it may be fast. But it will be known. And even when known and loved by a handful, you will be recognised.

HEHEHEHE!! :yayah: BOY do you ever get the d*****d art-world!! I mean: ELEPHANT DUNG??!!!!!!! UGH!!!
But anyway, as I plug away trying to find a gallery that will have me, I will remember what you said.
The unfortunate thing about this forum is that it IS the direct market for this category of thing. If I can't make it there... etc. :(
Well, I will be as persistent as a gadfly, & see how they like it! ;)
Thanx for the encouraging words, folx!! :D

I know where yer coming from! My fiance obtained his BFA last year from USF and had much the same problem.
After a while, and just before his final project he just got so tired of the clique-ish BS! He asked me, "What's the ugliest combination of colors/shapes you can think of?" I told him, "Brown & Orange polka-dots."
So, as a gag and a big fu schnick to the art dept, he made 244 4"x4" tiny panels of orange and beige dots on a brown background with stick figures super-imposed on them, and attatched them to long strips of wood.
At critique, one of the snobbiest, hard-headed classmates looked long & hard at it and said, "Wow..it's just so sophisticated. Well done, Dave."
So of course, the rest of the class piped in with their snivelly acquiescences. "Too true.." "Way to go, Dave." "Love the use of color."
What-ever.... LMAO!
All I know is, I've seen some of your work, and now I even own some!! I definitely appreciate your aesthetic, and I hope you continue to create. It's all about you and making what you love. :hugz:

THANK UUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!! :D
I am so glad that you appreciate my little offerings. ;)
I'm going to be showing that work I was talking about here, & I've had quite a nice reception to it since I re-posted (I posted a lot of it up a long time ago, but now it's in a gallery for people to see a large part of what I have done so far). There is far more interest in the subject matter here than in that other camp.
I'll do beautiful paintings for the one I have planned whose thread REALLY bombed; I'll post a link to them when I have enough done to show in that place, & if it comes to nothing again, why, I'll have had enough & I will not renew my subscription come next fall. That's all, folks! ;) Y'know?
