Hi everyone and blessed be!
I was just wondering what everyone is in this forum myself I'm am a cross between Celtic & Eclectic Wicca/Witchcraft. But more magick than religion here. So what is everyone? I'm new here and I just wanted to know who's who.
My name is Meg, I'm 16 and I live in Ohio. I have studied the Craft on and off for about 3 years now and not once have I actually completed a spell. My last one, halfway through I learned there weren’t any matches.
I’m more drawn to the science of Magic than the religion. But I hold both dear to my heart. I read the tarot & I practice palmistry as well as telekinesis, although I haven’t done that in a while.

Actually this is a difficult question to answer. I am definitely a Pagan. But I am also a Wiccan/Witch type. It's really hard to limit myself to just one catergory. I decided to vote for the Wiccan/Witch because that is the type of Pagan I am. I am 42 years old and have been studying Paganism seriously for about 3 years.

I put Witch down....though I could just as easily voted Pagan or Other.
I'm a kitchen witch, with Hindu and Buddhist tendancies.
*grins* I'm reminded of the saying "ask 15 pagans a question and you'll get 20 different answers"

I voted on Pagan due to the fact that I can't really call any, one particular path as my own...I choose from everything I come across to use or to discard. So I am just a Pagan....

I voted wiccan/witch because i've been studying wicca for around five years off and on. underline studying though because I'm from a non-craft family and not allowed to be taught till I'm 21 and I've only done simple spells. Like rain bringing and anger banishing. i wish To learn more. But well hey i read what I get learn what I can and hope it's enough.

Wow! As of this post, I'm the only person who voted "Wiccan."
I consider myself Wiccan (Dianic), but I would like to work towards being a witch, which I consider someone who works with magick and spells, whether folk magick or ceremonial. (loose definition, perhaps! :D ) I have, so far, focused on celebrating the Sabbats and Esbats (the "religious" aspects of Wicca? If you can say that - *shudder* ;) ), rather than spell craft.
But that's coming!

This is a toughy!
For a long time, I put myself under the Pagan wing...until I came to put myself under witch/wiccan wing. I'm not too sure where I am. But why should I limit myself? I love to tap into all thigns, and learn new things and information whenever I can.
I'm 17 (well...will be May 9) and I've been practicing (dabbling) for almost 3-4 years now. I'm still confused, and wanting to learn as much as I can. !!! Which is probably never going to end. and I certainly don't mind that.
anyhoo..enough babbling. there's my two cents. :D

I'm just absolutely confused to be truthful. I have Wiccan beliefs yet I also have incorporated beliefs from other paths of faith and/or philosophy. Some eastern beliefs along with it. As I understood it it was perfectly okay to integrate other beliefs into it, so I did.
The reason why I did was because I really don't feel like Wicca is 110% for me. I see how serious people take it and I don't know if I want to go that far to be honest.
My girlfriend attended a Wiccan college to earn...I guess what would be a certification for being a priestess and entering a coven. Only to see much mayhem go on from its previous ownership. From what i recall there is still mayhem under the new ownership as well. Granted, I understand certain situations will indeed cause unrest with a large number of people. This will be true regardless of what a person believes deep down. But to be honest, I felt that I became Wiccan to GET AWAY from that mob-like mentality. I never agreed with what my girlfriend was being taught there. Granted it was a great amount of information, but I still didn't agree with it because to me, it still felt like it was being presented as "This is how it goes, period."
So as a result I believe I just started incorporating other beliefs with it because well, I figure if I take the good of a little bit of everything then I am set and no one can argue with what I believe, because most likely I am in the same boat as they are.

June 24th, 2002, 06:13 PM
I put down other, because I have a lot of resources I draw from. I celebrate most Wiccan sabbats, I practice yoga, use Osho Zen meditation cards, call on Celtic, Egyptian, Greek, Bhuddist, and Roman Gods and Goddesses (and I think I forgot a few kinds!), and I just joined a newly-formed coven who have decided to follow an ecclectic path. It's all fascinating, and it's really difficult to follow one path when each has something to offer.
~**foxglove**~
July 4th, 2002, 08:58 PM
I am similar to Kalosi, I'm an 'other' - I draw on so many things, that to classify myself under any particular 'heading' if you like, would be inaccurate. But there is a certain freedom in that, which I enjoy... I think that so many religions and philosophies have valid and interesting aspects that it is more enriching to draw from as many as you can, particularly if you are like me and always searching.

Well... I was a little confused by the way the list was made...as a Pagan I am a eclectic Witch. Paganism is the umbrella name of the Earth Religions... it is not a either or ..it is an also. I am Pagan and also a Witch. I honor the old religion as well as I can with the knowledge I have been granted.
I do some spell work when necessary and I honor the Lady and Lord...in their many aspects.
Who says the Pagan religions have no laws and principles..? its like saying some one that calls themself a Christian has no Rules because they do not call themself a Baptist.

Exactly, as one friend of mine said, when you're asked to say one specific group of beliefs, you feel like you're cutting off a part of yourself that doesn't quite fit in with that group.
But, none here will look down thier nose at you if you pick all of the above or other, or any in between, which is nice......

Tiana,
Thank you, yes... now adays where most of us are pieceing our religions together from books, ancient texts , found artifacts and heartfelt faith...it is hard to say this is what i am. I know I am Pagan; for i belive in the old gods, and that the earth and all on it are part of the sacredness of life. I am a witch that i am a child of the Goddess and I call on the Horned God as Father protector...and I feel the magick in the world... though I preform it seldom.
Do I preform all the ancient rituals and call on all the ancient gods.. I do not know..for i am a modern pagan, and a 21st century witch... so I use what i know with what i have...
And here is a hope all Have a Blessed Lammas...if i do not visit this board again before the Harvest.
I have been a practiceing witch for 24 years... I still am learning what I am...

Pagan in its strictest sense means non Christian, Jewish, or Muslim, thus one could even technically say an atheist is Pagan in that sense. Pagans don't necessarily have laws or principles that are unique to Paganism, and no Paganism isn't 'an umbrella term for all earth religions' - if you want to discuss that try finding the threads here on the PUC. It is "not an also' either, as you can be Pagan without being Wiccan, Witch, or any of the rest. I know of at least one member who has called themself Pagan and not any of the rest.
As for the topic of this thread, I'm currently heavily into Kemeticism and yet not Kemetic I've discovered as I want to combine Ancient Egyptian beliefs with Hermeticism and Ceremonialism. Fascinating stuff :)

It all depends on your point of view and what you believe in in the long run.
If we all had the same point of view and beliefs, boy, how boring that would be!!!!
But, we have different ways of seeing the same thing, but all know what we mean in our own way.
Ok, now I'm rambling, so I'll just end the reply here and leave it at that... ;)

I don't like to label myself...the only labels I will accept are Witch and Discordian, because they mesh with things...above all, I am Eclectic, I take many different beliefs and practices and blend them to make my own personal spirituality. I have a lot of Paganism and Druidry in me, though :)

Hmm. I'm... confused. :) I honour the Lord and the Lady, and I have a lot of Wiccan influences, but I wouldn't call myself a Wiccan. So does that make me a witch?... But I rarely do any spellwork, so I'm not sure I really qualify as a witch... And just to make things more confusing, I have a strong pull to the Roman pantheon, and have started to incorporate aspects of Religio Romana into my beliefs...
Best just to go with Pagan, I think. :)

Well I am a witch.........and I'm quite happy. I love the religious peace that I get from studying this branch of the craft, and also I'm enamored with magik and hold it in highest esteem.
As for spells, I generally just do a circle of protection.......and call to the gods I wish to help me, along with my guardian angels and concentrate on what I wish to manifest! Thus far, all is well!

I suppose I could be called Pagan.....but I don't do the wiccan thing.....AT ALL!!!!
I therefore define myself as (a) firstly: me!!!! and (b) secondly: a natural eclectic witch, totally devoted to gaia in all her aspects.
I would one day like to be the village witch that lives with animals in a cottage at the bottom of the hill, deep in the woods. That's me!!!!
I am attracted more to the religion of Witchcraft as opposed to the science of it!!!!! though they tend to combine, more often than not!!!!!

Um...will this question be on the exam?!
Wouldn't say I was a witch, because I don't really cast spells much. Plus I've never really liked using that word due to the way it causes people to react and the negative connotations it still harbours for many people.
Wouldn't really say I was a Wiccan, because I'm more interested in the ancient practises than the modern version....although I do follow the Rede and I try to live by it. Hmmm.
Wouldn't say I was a Druid because...I haven't researched that enough to really be able to confidently call myself one. I mainly use a Celtic pantheon though and I'm more interested in that side of Pagan belief than the whole Greco-Roman element...
So, I kinda know what I'm not...but not what I AM. Um...pass. If someone can suggest a defintion then please do! I'm at a loss.
I just realised there is an 'Isis' here as well. Boy, that could get confusing! Lol

I was brought up as a witch although I didn't realise until I was about 9, when my 'studies' took a more serious turn. I'm not Wiccan, we don't believe in the God/Godess, for us Nature just IS. We don't follow a rede or anything, I was brought up to respect others and not to harm them needlessly, however if someone hurts one of us...
I was 17 before I started doing any spellcrafting but I rarely do anymore. When I left home I wandered from the path as such and haven't 'practiced' for a couple of years, but you can't get rid of what is in your heart, so i'm back and this time getting more involved and interacting with others. I didn't realise there were so many others out there like me or that people's beliefs were so diverse, being here has taught me a lot and i've started studying other beliefs so I can understand better what others are saying.
If people ask me about my beliefs I tend to tell them that i'm a Pagan as it's easier for them to understand. If you go around proclaiming that you're a witch in everyday society people automatically throw up barriers against you. If you say Pagan, it gives you a chance to explain what you believe because people have fewer preconceptions about it.
It seems very fashionable at the moment to be a witch and it really annoys me how many ignorant people out there are parading around under the title. I spent years learning (and still am) and was taught to understand the consequences of my actions. I'm not against people new coming to the craft but I want them to take it seriously. For me it's a way of life and not a hobby.

Well I call myself Wiccan, but I'm drawn to all things Celtic, Fae, and to some extent Witchy ... though I have read that Wiccan is the modern name for being a Witch or studying Witchcraft ... I'm not overly keen on making a big fuss of spells but I will partake in the odd one or two, and rituals, I do celebrate the big holidays, but I do it in my own way, I don't feel comfortable with creating circles ...

I just wanted to say nice name.

I'm not sure how to Classify myself. I'm not completely Wiccan because I believe if a  17 year:bastard:ld molests a 6 year old :hairraise , then he should be cursed and have his penis fall off. :hehehehe: SO, with that in mind, I can't be Wiccan, because I got so pissed off that I cursed him. I don't think it worked, but he deserves more than a slap on the wrist (he got put on a tether and told not to go near little kids anymore which he still does because he can't be out of his parent's line of vision and when they go to church, they can't tell the people with little kids to not go to church). :fofftopic I know. So I'm basically Wiccan except when someone does something like that.

I voted Witch, but if you want to narrow it down I'm an Eclectic Solitary Pagan.

I consider myself to be a Wiccan witch but I'm not 100% by the book. For instance take the Threefold Law, I don't think there is some force out there with a calculator that mesures out three times your Karma. I think we are given that which we need to further our path toward making the next spiritual level. The things we get are sort of lessons and that includes Karma. Sometimes all thats needed to learn the lesson is a slap on the wrist and sometimes a kick in the pnts. So maybe someone may reap an equl amount of Karma for what they do, someone else might incur 6X . Maybe its a function of how thick you are, maybe some people need only a reminder of what they should be doing and learn their lesson and some need the proverbial 2X4 over the head. I don't think I hold with the idea of Karma as some kind of cosmic revenge when someone hurts us, but something that tends to impel us to clean up our act. But big messes can require strong detergent so to speak.

After months of conflict and going back and forth about whether to stay what I was , go back to being a Wiccan ,or something else entirely, I've finally made up my mind.
It took a lot of soul searching but I have decided to go back to Wicca.

I voted Wiccan/Witch because I've been studying Wicca for 18 years, but was initiated into a Gardnerian Coven in 1991.

I voted Other, because I am studying more than practicing at this point...Eventually I hope I'll be able to find one that I really identify with, but at this point, I think they are all equally interesting. (I've actually been studying Eastern religions lately--Buddhism, Jainism, etc.) :)

I still can't define what I am. I've been reading about different religions which I consider to be pagan (I like to define pagan as being earth-based or at the very least earth-conscious, and not simply everything besides Judeo-Christian and Muslim religions, but that's just what it means to me) on and off for about three years now. I believe that every religion has positive aspects as well as negative ones, so I'm trying to define a spirituality for myself that incorporates as many positive and as few negative as possible. I don't celebrate many holidays, I always seem to forget when they're coming, but I do worship a higher power which I see usually as a Goddess and sometimes as a God. I agree with the Wiccan rede, though I don't consider myself Wiccan, and I think that the Rule of Three is a good guideline to make sure you're doing things for the right reason, even though I have never actually seen proof of it. I classify myself as eclectic pagan right now, but that's just to have a convenient thing to call myself when people ask. Still trying to find a mixture of things that feels right to me, but I think I'm headed in the right direction.

I voted other. I guess you can call me "pagan" or "recon pagan", but personally I just prefer the term "Canaanite" to describe my beliefs. I follow the religion of ancient Syria, Lebannon and Israel.
While I do go under the "pagan umbrella", it creates much less confusion when I say "Canaanite" instead of "pagan". They can't mistake me for earth-based this way for example.
I also study magic, separately and unrelated to my religious faith. And as a student of magic, I also practice witchcraft, as a craft, not a religion. So amongst others, I guess I can also be qualified as a "witch".

To tell you the truth, I don't really know between all of the one's listed so I'm just gonna say "witch". I haven't really "studied" up until a few years ago, but I've been practicing (just making things up as I go) since I was very little.

Boy is my face red, apparantly the soul searching didn't really work. Wicca is a great religion but it's not for me. It only took me a few days to figure out I had made the wrong decision and Heathenry was where I belonged.

I voted other, because I see myself as a Pagan Witch with Wiccan leanings, although I also have a bit of Shaman in me. Basically I would say I am an Eclectic Witch/Pagan. I hope that makes sense. :D

I dont even recall if I replied to this thread... but apperantly i didnt vote on the poll..
Till now!!
I voted Wiccan. I'm an Eclectic Wiccan though, no specific tradition. I do Magick as well, but its a lesser part of my Spirituality - I use charms more then anything. And I do a lot of Meditations & Prayer work.

well, first, hellooo and welcome. :)
i voted other, cause um... i don't think even i know what i am. :foh: at the moment, i half-jokingly refer to myself as the amazing eclectic recon humanist weather-witch wench.
lemme explain: i have humanist tendencies where it comes to basic religion and philosophy. i choose my "archetypes" and symbology through the reconstrucionalist path. and it's eclectic recon (if that's not too much of a contradiction ;) ) because i choose to honour both my heritages, celtic and germanic (asatrú). magically i work with nature, the elements, most of the time with the wind.
confusing? you bet, but life for me has never been simple. :)

Im a Electric Wiccan... I lean more towards Paganism then witchcraft since I enjoy these rituals and this more.... "nature" magick than "spell" magick that most witches use...

I consider myself a Pagan, although I study and draw from just about everything--if it meshes with my beliefs and philosophies, I encorporate it. I've studied Wicca a good bit, and the Correllian tradition in particular.
