View Full Version : My favorite Cartoons!

I got up at 5:00 today, turned on the tv and Lo and Behold, on comes Johnny Quest !!! I curled up on the couch with a cup of coffee and drifted back a few decades. {Us old farts are allowed!} Hell, when I was 8, I WAS Johnny Quest!!! (Siiiighs)

Ah, the old days. When a cartoon had an underlying political statement. If we only knew back then how they were trying to mould us into........well who knows what. Perfect little blond haired blue eyed citizens perhaps?

So what is YOUR favorite cartoon, and why? Forget psychoanalysis, a persons favorite cartoon can tell you everything you need to know about them, I belive! ;)

Peace,
Twig

Samurai Jack!

He rules. this cartoon makes creative use of *gasp* silence. It makes you think. It has great humorous minor characters. A wonderful hero. Terrific art.

Run, don't walk, to your TV tonight at 7:00 EST. Cartoon Network is showing a new episode.

Thundercats and VOLTRON were my favorites as a kid. I also liked Ninja Turtles and RainbowBrite.
More modern tunes I dig are Powerpuff girls & Samurai Jack.
I'd prolly watch more cartoons, if we had cable at school. :wah:

on the anime side of things, Sexy Commando, (it's not what the title implies), and DiGiCharat are my current comedy favorites. They're absolutely hilarious. :T

heheh...*dodges smacks* SpongeBob SquarePants... Okay, maybe I'm a sucker for the nonsense that goes on in that program, but it always manages to make me laugh in some way or another. :T

Okay, and I admit..The Simpsons and/or King of the Hill still make me laugh no matter how many times I see the re-runs on Comedy!

Well, I still love cartoons, but as a kid my favorites were:

The Barbapapas (clickety-click, Barba-trick!)
Spiderman
Voltron
Rocket Robin Hood

I spent most of my childhood in Newfoundland, Canada - so The Barbapapas (a family of shape-shifting blobs, basically) and Rocket Robin Hood might be familiar to people who also watched NTV (no cable in those days) or perhaps other Canadians?

My favorite cartoon of all time is the old Spiderman cartoon. I miss it so much and I wish someone would show it. Does everyone remember the song? Show your age, now...

Spiderman, Spiderman
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web any size
Catches thieves just like flies lookout
Here comes the Spiderman
Is he strong? Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood
Can he swing from a thread?
Take a look overhead hey there
There goes the Spiderman
In the chill of night
At the scene of a crime
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time
Spiderman, Spiderman
Friendly neighborhood Spiderman
Welcome friends he's ignored
Action is his reward to him
Life is a great big hangup
Wherever there's a hangup
You'll find the Spiderman!

That cartoon was so cool. It was sort of dark and not silly like a lot of cartoons.

Then there's Speed Racer (I don't care if their words and the movement of their mouths were out of sync - it's a classic!) I also love the OLD Jonny Quest - not the new ones. And I love the older Scooby Doo cartoons - the ones where the bats come out of the mansion in the opening sequence. The newer ones are cheesy - with "visitors" like the Mommas & the Papas or the Three Stooges or the Addams Family or Laurel & Hardy - cheesy!
Let's be honest - we all know Shaggy was a pot head - always with the munchies. And why do you think Freddy and Daphne always ended up "looking for clues" together? I'll bet they did some "investigating"!

I like the Power Puff Girls and Dexter's Lab and Johnny Bravo, but I really prefer the old cartoons. I could use a little Quick Draw McGraw or Deputy Dawg in my life. Those remind me of the times when I was a kid, before my dad split and he would watch cartoons with me. Oh, and Underdog! And the really old Flintstones - before their opening song even had lyrics. Some of you probably already know, but I think a lot of people don't realize that the Flintstones was based on The Honeymooners tv show. Oh, and I can't forget the Simpsons, and I catch King of the Hill and Daria when I can. If I had to come into the 21st century, I'd have to say I think Samurai Jack is the best new cartoon.
