View Full Version : Ruined! Positively Ruined!

they RUINED my prom dress. its 2 weeks late, every alteration that was done was done wrong, on a THREE HUNDRED DOLLAR dress, and it has essentially been destroyed. My mum is going to try to salvage it the best she can for me to wear tomorrow night, but considering the woman who did this was supposedly one of the best in town to do it, and this store has screwed us over entirely now, we're asking for a full refund. (See my last post about this for details) I am so BEYOND angry right now. It looks like a ten year old sewed it, not a professional seamstress. If you all could send some energy to me, my mum, and my grandmother while we try to fix my dress tonight, I'd appreciate it. This has been nothing but hell for me...we're thinking about taking legal action against the store, and if not that some serious anti-advertisement is coming out of me, my mum, and my friends. My dress wasn't the only one ruined. I wasn't the only one screwed over. At least 4 other girls from just my school are having the same problem. I can't imagine how many others. *shakes head* well...off to the salt mines...

It reminds me of highschool prom.
Hah that was hysterical. Well for the most part. Then they dedicated a song to a kid from our town who had died the night before in a car accident and everyone started bawling.
Sorry I'm all reminiscing and stuff. Seems like highschool was eons ago :)

*hugs* Snow, I'm so sorry.
I know that sucks, and you're angry....*smiles* Remember to take a couple of deep breaths and have fun even if they can't get the dress fixed.
*smiles* I wish I'd worn jeans to my prom...I was so uncomfortable all night.

In fact, *smiles* be a nonconformist. . . you ought to still enjoy the prom, as long as you're going, no? :D Wear whatcha want.
'Course, I'm probably the wrong person to ask--I never went to my high school prom.

Hm I wore a long dress which was basically a sleeveless ivory slip dress with a matching lacey overdress. It was very comfortable. *ponders* :)

*smiles* Well I wasn't very popular and didn't like any of the guys in my (very small) high school. So ended up going with a college friend of my sister's.
 Upon reflection....I should have just stayed home. Had a heck of a lot more fun going to prom as a sophomore with my then boyfriend.
Prom, smom....*grins and hugs Snow sympathetically* But that's just the ranting of a bitter old woman....:D.....I know how important it can be at the time.
Here's hoping they can get it fixed.

I wore a strapless black dress...black lace over black satin. My hair was done in a french twist, and I had babys' breath in it. One tip..if you are fairly well endowed, and intend to dance, the strapless dress is PROBABLY not the best route to go ..heheh.
Actually..I had a very good friend of mine as my date, my boyfriend had just broken up with me, two days prior to the prom. So I called a good friend of mine, and he and his girlfriend discussed it. She called me back to say that she'd found a date for me. A very sexy, smart, and classy guy...HER FIANCE! LOL. He didn't know the color of my dress, but bought me a coursage which matched, perfectly. Ivory colored roses, and black lace. And he sent me roses. And, we had a wonderful time together.
I'd flip out on the store, too, snowstar! The prom is one of those things which I think females tend to put more emphasis on, then males. Almost every woman I've ever met, said that she either has wonderful memories of her prom, or that she regrets totally, not going. There's just something about looking like, and being treated like, a princess for a night.
As a last minute solution, could you perhaps get a dress from a Filenes store, or something, and not remove the tags, and then return it the next day? Or rent one? Any one you know, who could loan you one for the night?
I know how dissappointed you must be, and I wish you MUCH luck in getting it all straightened out before the big night. Good luck!

heh I wasn't very popular at school either
that's why my boyfriend was from another city ;)
then we ran into my ex who was there with a friend of a friend, and as I was introducing the bf to people I wasn't sure it was him so I was like "I'm sorry, what's your name again?" and he was really embarassed and I think upset. I guess he wanted to get back together or something. Hah!
I'm so mean :)

Just one note I want to throw in, also off-topic. . .
A real man doesn't treat his love like a princess one night. He treats her like a princess every night! ;)

Heh..Myst..I wasn't very popular in school, either. The guy I wound up going with, my friend's fiance, was a really successful, good looking guy. And everyone was absolutely SHOCKED when I showed up with him.
And Phoenix, you are right :) However, it's not just the guy..it's the limo driver if you get one, it's your parents, it's the people at the hall (caterers, photogrophers, etc). And..in Highschool, most guys don't have the money to shell out on a fancy dinner, limo ride, etc, at any other time. So the Prom is an opportunity to taste that sort of treatment :)

The tuxes were messed up at my sister's wedding. The groom's sleeves barely reached his wrists and that was after the alteration!
You could always get a cool sequined tank and shoes and go in jeans. Actually the coolest prom dress I've seen this year was denim, fitted denim shirt and a big denim ballgown skirt with glitter dusted over the whole thing. Looked incredible!

heh I used to have my rich, goodlooking boyfriend pick me up in front of the school in his gorgeous sports car with the tinted windows and bass blasting. You should've seen the looks on people's faces. OMG it makes me laugh just to think about it. "That's right, he's *my* boyfriend" *giggle*

The prom is a whole experience and a night you never forget from the silly things that happen to the bad or fantastic it is a night for making memories. Bring lots of film you will want it someday and no matter what happens with the dress take a deep breath and enjoy yourself to the fullest. I will keep my fingers crossed about the dress Worse comes to worse get a dress at the mall and just have fun! It can still be magic and you can still be Cinderella.

Also it is, for a lot of girls, something we think and fantasize about for years beforehand, dressing our barbie dolls up and having them dance with ken.. almost like a woman's wedding... :)

Yes..exactly, Myst. I think of it almost as "Practice" for the wedding :) My mom and dad cried the night of my Prom :)

Some girl here in town made the newspapers for making fabric of duct tape and making her dress from that.
I thought when you posted a couple of days earlier that I should just fed ex you my bridesmaid's dress from Christmas - it was a backless beaded burgundy formal, very pretty, and I'm a 3 also, so it would have fit you. . .
Geez, I probably have a bunch of stuff that would work. Vintage and all. . .
The seamstress owes you the price of the dress.
My prom, was, admittedly, way back in 1990, but I had a forest green off the shoulder Scarlett O'Hara hoop skirt. I was the only girl there not wearing pastels. . . My best friend and I went with identical twins, and horrors resulted.

thanks for all of the replies and stories, I enjoyed reading them and they made me laugh. We managed to salvage the dress so I can at least wear it and not have it look like crap. I'm still miffed, but I suppose its all finally working out. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures and share with you all. Trust me, I intend on having plenty of fun. I mean, hey, I have a date...that's more than I expected right there!

*chuckles* Well I'm a total looser.....hated dances because it meant you had to scramble for a date. And I'm still not fantasizing about the wedding, I'm already having nightmares about it....*grins at Phoenix*....but I know I'm looking forward to the wedding night.....:D

aw man! that's awful! kind of reminds me of the christmas formal at my bf's school...that morning my bf had sprained his ankle at wrestling practise. I told him about five times that if he didn't want to go because of it that I'd be fine about it, 'cos I didn't want him to be in pain or anything, but he insisted it was alright and he'd go anyway. If that had happened now though I think I'd have had a teensy bit of a fit for my own sake of "nothing is going right!" ('cos everything has turned out disastrous in some form so far). Then I probably would have gone over to his place the night of prom armed with some good movies where stuff blows up and lots of junk food. :D

Hey! At least your having a prom! We moved to my High School town somewhere around my Freshman year and the school had just stopped having proms. Then in the middle of my Jr. year my family moved again to another town where the school had just stopped having proms. The next year (my Sr. year) the school I moved from started having proms again! FIGURES!
Sooooooo, just go! (Glad the dress is fixed....the store still owes ya) Have a great time! And make it home with both your Glass Slippers!:heartthro

ooh I hope you have a wonderful time, anyway!!!
. . . *sighs* I had no senior prom. . . no prom period! not even a semi-formal dance. . . I started college when everyone else was starting 11th grade, and I mostly did homeschooling. I wish I'd had a prom. But then, I didn't really have a boyfriend, much, so. . . *sighs*

I went stag to my first prom and let me tell you I had the best time! Now my Senior prom sucked. I ended up going with my ex-bf and his new gf which also happened to be my best friend. It got really confusing LOL.
I hope they fixed your dress and you had a goods time Snowstar.
