Keep in mind that this webpage was posted some time ago. Norplant may have evolved since then, and some of the info may be outdated. But I haven't seen any new information to the contrary, so if anyone has any information contrary to that provided on this website, i'd love to hear it.

My friend who has norplant has had no side effects whatsoever. Her period stopped completely, although she still "cycles" in the same way (ie. she'll have the same period related symptoms at the same time as usual). She had terrible cramps and a really heavy period so she's elated that she no longer has any period at all.

She got pregnant on the pill twice and is terrified of needles (plus I've heard some nasty stories about depo), so norplant became her choice.

I had Norplant put in right after I had my son in 1992. I had no side affects, regular periods without cramps. I loved it! I had it in for the full 5 years. I would have gotten it replaced, but I was thinking about having another child by that time. Now, I'm finally pregnant for my second child. :sunny: (I waited a little longer than I would have liked, but there were too many issues in past relationship to even think about attempting with them.)
