WASHINGTON -- The Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning to cat owners concerning Wild Kitty Cat Food.

Consumers were told they should not buy or use 3.5 ounce and 1 pound containers of the brand's "Raw All Natural, Frozen Cat Food - Chicken with Clam Recipe."

The FDA said cats and other pets who eat the food could become infected with salmonella, which was found in a raw sample. It said people are at risk of infection if they handle the cat food, touch pets that ate the food or come into contact with any surface the food has touched.

...I wouldn't risk it until everything is figured out. That's just me though.

I am an avid raw feeder. I feed both raw and kibble to my dogs and my cats. Of course there is going to be the possibility of salmonella in the food.. its Raw lol.

We can get salmonella just by handling our own chicken or raw products improperly so this doesnt concern me none really. Dogs and cats have different digestive set ups than humans do and a healthy dog or cat without digestive problems can handle the nasties that we cant.

Think of this, dogs and some cats (depending on the cat I guess) Drink from the toilet, muddy puddles, eat their own poop, other animals poop, roll on dead things, eat dead things, catch things and kill them (IE: Mice, wild rabbits, etc) Obvisouly not to much bad comes from all that or we would have a big uproar over everything/anything dogs and cats do.

And yes, salmonella can be found in alot of those places also, so can alot of other nasties.

Personally, I dont care what one feeds their dog, if one doesnt feel comfy in feeding anything raw, then dont, there are plenty of good kibbles out there to feed a dog or cat. But don't think Raw feeding is bad, cause its not. I know a women, been feeding her GSD's Raw for over 30yrs. None of them have ever had any problems physically or mentally (the myth that raw foods make dogs mean is just that..a myth)

The thing is, there are lots of frozen raw foods out there for dogs/cats and im pretty sure if all of them were tested, alot would come up with having salmonella in them.

Im not saying that salmonella cant kill something, yes it can. By improper handling or a dog/cat that is sick or has digestive problems, etc. But the only case I know of were a dog died from salmonella was the salmonella he got from his low grade kibble.v
