View Full Version : Energy for my SqueakMaster cat

He's suddenly become ill, and my parents took him to the vet two days ago.
It started with refusal to eat, and he began vomiting phlegm which has recently turned yellow.
The vet has done x-rays, and there may be a mass in his stomach, but what is certain is that his liver is very small.
Other than that, they have no clue what is wrong with him, and are waiting for the results of various tests.
I can't go to him, as I am living in another town with no car--he stayed with my parents when I started graduate school. I feel helpless, and I'm relying in info from my parents about what's going on.
He's a huge (not as in fat, he's just a large cat), grey tabby, very friendly, curious, and playful when he's well. He's about three and a half years old, maybe four. As you can tell by his nickname, he squeaks rather than meows.
I'm hoping for a swift, easily remedied diagnosis, but he needs that remedy (whatever it may be) fast, as he's going downhill quickly.
Please keep him in your thoughts.

Thank you everyone. Latest update is thaat he's still at the vet. Tests are still being run and its still a mystery. There is no mass in his stomach, my mom misundertood something the vet said, apparently.
As for his liver, we don't know if this is due to recent events or if its due to trauma he received as a kitten, before he came to us....he showed up on our doorstep so starving that my parents guessed he was three months, I guessed five months, but he was actually about six months old. He also had a slight limp from some old injury and one slightly crossed eye (the vet couldn't do anything for these, it was too late, and so tey still annoy him now and then). No one ever checked for other internal injuries.
It is possible that he's had a small liver for a very long time, and now that he's full grown, the damage has caught up with him. We don't know. We've been trying to think if he could have gotten into anything poison, but my understanding is that normally that would cause an enlarged liver rather than a small one (if one is to assume that it was normal-sized at the outset, which we don't know for a fact).
He did eat a couple of bites of food over the weekend, and kept them down, but he's not out of the woods yet by any stretch, and the vet wants to keep him longer.
What makes this even more upsetting for me, on a completely personal note, is that he first fell sick on my birthday last week. My parents couldn't get him to the vet sooner because they were snowed in by the blizzard and the nearest vet is a few towns over about thirty miles away.
Thanks again.

The most recent info is in the update thread. Basically they did the surgery and removed a compacted hairball, but it's been two days since that and he's still not eating. :(
Thanks to everyone for keeping him in your thoughts. I've been visualizing him eating, I hope things work out soon.
