So they did surgery, it turned out he had a very compacted hairball.
Liver is normal, just very small.
There is another pretty big hairball in his colon, but the vet doesn't operate on the colon unliess its a life or death situation, so we're hoping that now that the one is removed, he'll be able to eat and get his bowels working, and push the other one through. He's being given a laxative afte he recovers from this round of surgery.
My mom will now be brushing him. SHe has it in her mind that short haired cats don't need to be brushed, and I'm usually the one to spend hours brushing gobs and gobs of loose fur out when I come home for the holidays. But now she's acknowledging that it needs to be done.
Don't get me wrong. The fact that my parents are willing to keep my cats and care for them while I'm away at college, I'm very grateful. I truly wish I could take them with me, but the apartments around here, if they allow cats at all, require that they be declawed.
I just wish it didn't have to come to this point to finally convince her, though.
He's not out of trouble yet, though, he still has the colon obstruction. So can I request energy for the cat to have a good healthy BM? 8O
Thanks so much for keeping him in your thoughts!

Thanks.
At the moment, he's gradually being reintroduced to food--post surgery liquid diet right now. According to my mom, who has been visiting him at the vet twice daily before and after work, he's already much more energetic after having the main one in his stomach removed, even with the stitched incision in his stomach. We're just hoping he won't hurt himself with his newfound energy, now.
Still waiting to hear the...status...of the second hairball. I don't know if they've actually given him a laxative yet or whether they're waiting for him to recover a little further from the initial surgery. But it sounds like he's doing much better.
Thanks again,

:hugz: and energy sent, there are very good hairball treatments available at places like PetsMart and such. The one I used for Nobie came in a tube and the kitty just licks it off your finger

He's still refusing to eat. :(
I asked mom if it was possible to bring in his food dish as maybe the familiarity of it might entice him. If he still hasn't eaten by the end of today, she'll bring it in tomorrow morning.

Please ask the vet if he can have chicken baby food (NO ONION, please check the label!). Often they will eat that when they won't eat anything else. (My cat, Bunny-GA, Loved the Ham, but most vets discourage it because of the salt content)
Sending Best Wishes to your baby that everything comes out OK.

When I was young we had a cat that got hair balls alot and my Mom would rub butter on her mouth and supposedly it helped. She lived to be like 15 so you never know. And before anyone jumps my case Im not endorsing giving a kitty healthy or not people food, I am actually very against it but well if my cat was in a situation like this Id try anything.
Pooping prayers are sent to you feline friend honey

Well they finally sent him home yesterday, and last night around 9:00 he went over and ate all the food in his dish and ate his breakfast this morning.
Still no BM, but he once he gets some food digested and on the way through, hopefully he'll get it out of his system.
Vet bill is close to $1,000.00, but he's worth it.
A huge thanks everyone. Hopefully this will all resolve itself soon.
