Howdy all,

I've just recently gotten a charter to start a SpiralScouts troop here in my area (Maryland), and I'm having a bit of trouble generating interest in the program, and can't really figure out why.

Do any of you have previous experience (good or bad) with SpiralScouts? Would you care to share it?

Thanks!

I don't have any experience with them although I wish I did. I have yet to live where there is a group. I would love to have my kids in a spiral scouts group rather than girls scouts or later boys scouts (when my son gets older).
I hope that others here will be able to give you some information and hopefully others in your area will come to realize that it is available and join. I'm not sure how long ago you got them to start a chapter in your area, but if it has been really recent it may just be that those that are interested looked into it before and didn't find it in the area, so they are not aware at this time that it is now available. I would let local new age shops and other people know so it can spread by word of mouth. Then give it a little time.

I don't have any experiences with them diirectly but I try to spread the word aboout it as much as possible. I think that it is a fantastic idea. I hope that the Spiral Scouts continue to grow. It's a shame that you can't seem to get one started. Best of luck to you.

Apparently we are having the opposite problem here. There is a waiting list to get into some of the groups. I am not actually signed up yet as my child just turned 3 and is pretty hyper hehehe but my good friend and Circle mate started a group about a year ago.

It's sprouted into 3 Firefly subgroups with waiting list and one Spiral Scout groups which needs more kids. They seem to have more of a problem of getting secured leaders, especially since the group is so new. Each subgroup (hearth) has it's own meetings, leaders, plan but they get together for Sabbats. Sometimes they host a Kids art table or info booth at other Pagan events.

We live in Oregon and our town does have a large Pagan population but I was surprised by how many people were interested. Does your area have a decent Pagan population with kids? Is that the adults just don't seem interested in signing the kids up?

Here is the Yahoo group site:

I am sure one or more of the leaders could offer some advise or perhaps with their permission you could share some of the fun activities our group is doing to interest folks in your area. Sometimes people just don't understand the concept or don't think it will be successfully (or worth the bother).

Hope this helps,

Rhianna
