View Full Version : How about some reviews?

I know we all have quite a collection when we add all of our decks together. If anyone feels up do it, how about writing a review for some of them?
I think it should probably be something that gets searched on first... for instance, I know that several people have the Sacred Circle Tarot. If one person writes a review, then the 2nd person should search for it, and add their review to the same thread.
I sort of think of this as a combination of a "What do you think of xxxxx" type of thread, but with some more information for a potential buyer to go on.
What do you guys think? Would this be a good idea? Would anyone be willing to write some tarot deck reviews? Or has AT pretty much taken care of all of that for us? LOL

I think it's a good idea. I've got the Goddess Tarot, the Gendron Tarot, and the Sacred Circle (well, that's my husband's, but he wouldn't mind if I played with it for a while.. ) I'll contribute, if you like.
Will this be done as separate threads for each deck, or one big thread with reviews in it?

Sounds like a great idea to me. :D I'd be willing to write reviews once I get a few more decks under my belt.

I think it is a very good idea. In the main reviews area AT has only one review per deck. Here we have more of an ongoing discussion and it's easier to share pros and cons regarding various decks. I'm hoping that now that I'm back from my conference things will settle down enough that I can devote the necessary attention to things like writing a review or two (or more), as well as becoming more active in the tarot threads here!
I'd vote for one thread per deck, but headline the thread "REVIEW: name_of_deck"

I'd vote for one thread per deck, but headline the thread "REVIEW: name_of_deck"Exactly what I was thinking!
Then, whenever someone gets a new deck, they can do a search on "review" and "insert name of deck here" and add to the already on going thread.
Perhaps a quick search before you get started might be good too.... I believe I can go back and change titles of older threads, but I'll have to check with the site deities to make sure I can do that on older threads without consulting the thread starter first.... I'll let you know. So, if someone has already written a review on a deck, we could possibly change the title and just continue adding to your regularly scheduled discussion. :)

You might want to make that a separate subforum of this one, so it doesn't get too cluttered, much like the M2M requests subforum.
Other than that, I think it's a great idea and would be happy to participate. Going back and digging up old review threads would probably work well too!
Decks:
RWS

Great idea! We could get a more pagan perspective on these decks here than Aeclectic.

I like it, and would be willing to help out. I have a list of my decks in my class... can't remember them all off the top of my head.

Great idea! I'd be willing to write a review for:
Navigators of the Mystic Sea
Victoria Regina
as those are my two most-used decks.

Anyone have a review that they are ready to post? Just go ahead and start the thread with "REVIEW" so that I can save it properly in the FAQ.
I think I can dig up my mini-review of the Animals Divine somewhere... and I have a few new decks I can get started on as well. :)

How about some guidelines for the reviews, so that they are fairly consistent? That would help me, and I think it would make it less frustrating for the people reading it if they know what to expect and get the same type of info on each deck...

Well, let's see what everyone wants...
I'd like to know if the minors are illustrated or not.
I'd like to know if the suits have the traditional names, including the names of the Court Cards (page, princess, etc.)
I'd like to know the #s of Justice & Strength.
I'd like to know what the Swords & Wands associations are.
Does the deck have an accompanying book or just the LWB?
What are the size of the cards? Who is the publisher?
It would be nice to have some images or a link to someplace with images.
Anyone else have more input?

Flaire has very graciously started our subforum for this! Woot! Thank you, Flaire!
Now, I have posted some general guidelines, but please feel free to make more suggestions and I'll add them as we go.... it's a WIP, folks. :)

I've also just added some guidelines for book reviews, but again, if you can think of anything else, let me know and I'll add it to the list.
