I just got news last night that a kid that I used to babysit for got killed. He was celebrating his b-day, left the local bar to drive home less than a mile away and ended up crashing into the lake. They found his car/body two days later. :(

Not trying to sound preachy but I can't imagine how his family and friends are coping with a loss that could have been totally preventable.

And me, I used to change the boy's diapers. :(

And please, this is an illustration of why even a short drive is not a good idea if you are drunk.

Love you all, and want everyone to be safe and careful.

Blessings.

Sorry to hear of that tragedy!!:( It really is a shame! I don't know what it will take for people to realize just how dangerous it is to drink and drive!!

Believe it or not, it's not illegal to drink and drive here.... I went out a couple of weeks ago, and we were going to go from one bar to the next, but I still had 1/2 a beer left, and my friend (the driver, who's lived here for a year), just said "bring it with you." That was way too weird...having a beer in a car. I've been told that it's not unusual to see police driving around with beers!! But then, no one wears seatbelts either, and the drinking age is something like 14...
Anyway.....

I'm so sorry chryssi, that's awful to have happen...

Awhile ago, my dad's friend was drinking and driving and he killed two people in an accident. He went to jail for 6 mos. and it wrecked his life. The lawyers fees were so high that he lost his house. Then his wife left him. He still drinks, and now, with his deteriorating health, he walks with a cane, and hes only in his fortys. Its amazing what can happen....

OMG....I've never heard of a place where drinking and driving is legal. It's illegal to drink and drive here.

OK, I know it is really silly to drive with too much alchohol inside you, drugs too. Where I live the legal limit is approx one pint of beer or a couple of shots of whisky etc.
If I am driving and had a couple of beers, 3 max, I am very aware and alert that if stopped, I could lose my licence. My driving is so much more careful, so much so than if I had had a few coffees and listening to some music that I was "too relaxed"
The laws are there for our own safety, but i often feel that they are too overbearing when it comes down to laying strict guidelines and not depending on an individuals capabilities.
Ranting over, I am so sad at the loss of young life.

I'm sorry Chryssi... that's just aweful.

Growing up in the country I knew many people who did it, and also lost a few. I never, I just could never do it.

Chryssi, I am so sorry. I wish there was some way this would all end. I have had this happen in my life as well. Very sad, when you know if they would have taken a cab.... all would be well.

As for the drinking limit..... where I live it is .01 (I think). That is less then 12oz of beer or 1 shot. It all depends on body weight too though. I know you say your fine, but the laws have to be made for alot of peopl. Imagine a 98lb woman driving under that same pint. She would be affected alot more than you would. I think it is good that it is a law.

Chryssi, it could be worse.... he could have taken somebody (maybe even a family) with him. Then he wouldn't just be remembered as the boy you knew...... it would be much, much more.

Sorry again, if you need anything let me know. Or, if you just need to talk to somebody E-mail me or PM me.

I feel very sorry for your lose...but I must also jump on the band wagon here and say drinking and driving is no joke...this is an extreme example of what may happen, but on a lesser note, I know far to many people who have gotten DUI's and lost licenses and a couple who have spent time in prison for drinking and driving...as a rule of thumb, DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE...if you don't have a designated driver, call someone to pick you up, they'd rather be a bit angry for losing some sleep than to wake up to find out you are dead...

no surprise, i'm with the "don't drink and drive" people. with somewhere over a million miles behind me driving everything from tractor trailers down to motorcycles i've seen too many piles of scrap iron and hamburger that used to be cars and people. so while i enjoy an occasional drink i do it at home when there's no likelyhood i'll need to drive. if i'm away visiting the sort of friends i have will put me up on the couch rather than let me drive home once i've gone past two drinks in an evening, and i haven't been in a barroom for years. since i carry a gun routinely i don't need the trouble that's too easily found in bars. and there's another tip, if you're going to go boozing leave the guns locked up at home, firearms and alcohol don't mix any better than cars and alcohol.
