View Full Version : Does the moon affect your readings at all?

Silver Venus
April 11th, 2002, 10:23 AM
Ive just been thinking that I always read more around the time of a new moon, and not really that much at all around the time of the full moon or when it is wanning.
& whenthe moon is dark, like now, I always study loads and get my tarot out ;)

How about you?

& does it effect your your readings, quality, accuracy or power of them in any way?

heres a useful calendar of the moon too

I'm still having difficulty keeping up with the phases of the moon so I'm not always aware of it and therefore haven't noticed anything. =P Not so great an answer, eh?

;) lol, no as i added a link for a moon calendar!
Think back to a week and a half ago.. did you feel like reading more then or now? Have you been reading for the last two weeks? or plan to read and feel more in the mood for it now? Then this may give you an insight to whether the moon affects your tarot reading at all ;)

I've felt REALLY in the mood since the rain went away on tuesday and last night I got up around midnight because I REALLY wanted to use my cards but I didn't as my hubby was sleeping and I didn't want to bother him so I just got some water and went back to bed.

:) I too cant read when the weather is really bad, i didnt relaise over wonter but I hardly read at all, and now the weather is brightening up so are my cards and Im in the mood again :) So I understand completley.
Also maybe try and make a note of when you read, or try to think back if you only really want to read for a week or so a month, then youll see if the moon effects your readings at all :)

I'll start paying more attention but I literally have no sense of time (without a watch or the sun moving I have no idea how much time passes, without a calender I loose track of days quickly) so I can't really say much beyond the last day or two.

Lol, without a calendar, I'd be lost! lol I think I read more during full and new moon times. Most time it's just a day by day thing. ;) Warmer weather does make me want to read more and do more in general too! lol :D

I answered not at all and then thought about it - I think a "not sure" response would have been good.....

I don't plan my readings around the moon cycles and haven't noticed whether there's a difference - but if I kept track, I'm pretty sure that I would find something, since the moon cycles affect everything else in my life. For instance, I'm more productive between new moon and full moon and more depressed when the moon is waning.

same here Freyja :) Im a mess when the moon is at its fullest and if im down at all its bound to be because the moon is wanning. I always blame it on the moon ;)

Interesting how we all do more in hotter/brighter weather! I heard its about how much sun and daylight we intake, right?

I was in a very hot climate recently, Cancun, and although very happy, I couldnt of done anything and couldnt belive how things could get done over there! But then again I was on holiday and it was boiling in the early 30's!
I wonder what people are like when they live in extreme weather climates ~ if there isnt much physic interest?
But then again look at the Carribian culture! but Ive never heard of Eskimo magick! :T

I also sometimes think it depends on the time of year and I'm going to take a look at that now that you've brought this up. Sometimes I actually have more energy during the waning moon - the cycle seems to change at a certain point in the year.....

I recently discovered a great book that goes into the moons in great detail, it also has little exercises that you can do to meditate and reflect up. It's called Earth Time, Moon Time. The author is Annette Hinshaw - and she was the driving force behind establishing the pagan community in my area. I love it!

Unfortunately, where I live it gets sooooo hot in the latter part of the summer that I tend to get lazier!

Thats really interesting about the time of year, I always feel allot more active with my tarot and runes from Ostara until after Samhain then go quite into hibernation for a few months over Yule especially, I guess you could say its with everything going on at that time of year but I really didnt feel up to reading that much this year around Yule at all.

Ooo :boing: ill have to look up your book you recommend that sounds just up my alley, I love books about the moon, have one called Moon meditation's (that my sister is currently borrowing so cant tell you the author) and love the Sea Priestess & Moon Magick novels by Dion Fortune.

That's a good question, Silver. I know I feel differently when the moon is full or new or dark. Magically, I seem to connect with it differently at each phase. When it comes to tarot or other types of divinations, I noticed that I read differently during different moon phases. Almost like my intuition focuses on different aspects of the reading. I'm not sure if I'm making any sense here. :p

I don't really seem to notice any change in my readings when the moon is at it's different stages. Although, I'm sure that around the new moon I get my best readings cuz that's when I usually do a whole bunch, as opposed to when the moon is full. ;)

Amazon does have it but if for some reason you can't find it, Annette's family donated a case of them to our circle and we are selling them to buy more books for our library. Bookstore price is $13, we're selling them for $10. Be glad to help if need be. I've seen the Moon Meditations book, will consider buying it based on your positive review!

I always get a better reading when it's a full moon,
sitting there, with an open window the light of the moon and my cards.
It has a certain atmosphere that just feels right.

It's not that I feel more intuitive either way but the feelings are different. I'm more incline to do readings for myself around the dark or new moon. I read better for others around the full moon.

Wild that is really interesting, Im just concentrated all around the new moon I think and although i can and have read from the full moon to the dark moon i just dont feel a happy urge to get my cards out and do a reading.

interesting how most people have voted for the moon not efecting there readings..

Freyja did you find out when the moon's cycle changed in the year? Still interested :)

That IS interesting - but as I said, I initially answered that way and then upon thinking about it realized that this is wrong -

 Oops, forgot - For myself, it seemed to change right around the transition from autumn into winter. But I'll have to do some research with an almanac to see when it actually does shift......

Yep! I was thinking last post to say ~ can we all just keep track of our reading and the moon this month ~ especially as we are in the New Moon now, to start this week would be great, and then at the next New Moon for people to maybe recomment ;)

What does everyone think? a tarot moon diary! Are you up for it?

Great idea! I've had so many friends giving me readings lately that I haven't done many for myself. Good way to return myself to the habit!

Okay, so tonight I /finally/ got some time to do readings. I grab my deck and some paper and head back to my room to get a little quite time. As I'm working on doing the readings ALL the cards feel wrong and every card I pull is a reverse card. Then I get his horrible feeling that I'm missing a card. So I just spent some time righting all my cards (so none are reversed) then I seperated them out by suits and the major arcana. As I was ordering the Majors I couldn't find the High Priestess but she was in with the cups. I wasn't missing any cards but by the time I'd finished there was this awful buzzing energy all over the deck. So I pulled it up in to my hands and arms and then pushed it out in to the ground and now my right arm is killing me and my hands have that asleep tingly feeling. I guess I won't be doing readings tonight. I suppose my full moon turned in to a deck cleansing.

Wow. Night before last, went to read my runes and thought I'd lost one. Went nuts looking for it, have a little cat who steals stuff, thought she'd gotten it somehow and it was forever gone. Didn't feel into the reading either, was for someone else, and thought maybe I shouldn't even do it. The rune was there the whole time, had simply rolled away from the others and was near centerpiece on kitchen table....

Maya and Freyja ~ so would you say with your experiences that the full moon's energy throws you off a bit and isnt so good for reading? Or it is?

I havent read for the last 5 days with the ful moon's power puting me 'off' my carda dn runes but today im feeling a little bit more in the mood to draw singular cards (only! lol).. Ill draw a few later on for you guys in this thread :)

 Never thought about it til you brought this up, SV! Sure seemed to affect things this month, haven't been in the mood for several days either. So I guess that's the first entry in the journal we're keeping. I'll keep track of how I'm feeling about it during this waning phase.

Could use a positive card right now! Thanks!

I feel more "influence from the other side of the veil" during the waxing and full moon, as well as during my own 'moontime'. However, I can read any time; but I DO seem to get more tangible info during full moon. I also find that folks tend to ask for readings more when the moon is waxing and full.

Flar's Freyja

Moon is waning, still not quite feeling in the mood. Moontime should be a good time to read, that veil is thinner. No longer have moontime but still cycle around new moon. Will have to pay attention to that.

I've been keeping track this moon cycle & noticed that the readings got easier as the moon became fuller. I have to be honest & say that it could be that I was rusty at the beginning. I think this is something that needs to be looked at for several moon cycles. Now that the moon is waning, I'll keep track & see if that affects my readings. Heh! I'm off to look for some more guinea pigs! :D

Silver Venus
September 18th, 2002, 05:20 AM
dont worry this confuses most!
Waxing is when the moon is growing from a New Moon to the Full Moon, and wanning is then the end of this cycle, when the moon is darkening from Full back to a brand New Moon.

I think the moon definately effects your readings... or how you look at them anyway. We are made mostly of water and the moon effects water because of its gravitational pull so it would only make sense that we should be effected by it too.
