View Full Version : Spread of the Week - 3/1/07 to 3/8/07

Spread of the Week rules / instructions:
1. A new spread will be posted weekly (hopefully I'll manage it every Thursday and we may change it to bi-weekly or monthly if weekly doesn't seem like enough time to get the readings done).
2. If you'd like to attempt the spread and have a reading done for you using that spread in return, post in the thread.
3. The first person to post will receive the first reading from the 2nd person to post, etc. So, whoever posts in front of you is who you read for, and whoever posts behind you is who is reading for you.
4. The readings should be posted in the thread so that others can read them (after all, this is for the purposes of learning and we all learn better by reading over examples by others) UNLESS the reader deems that the information is too personal to be shared on an open board. If that is the case, then the reader should PM the person they are reading for, but post in the thread that the results were personal and their querent has been PM'd with the results of the reading.
5. Do not post in the threads if you are not willing to read for others. This is a reading exchange, not a free reading.
6. Use only the spread posted. You may use whatever deck you like.
If anyone else can think of any additional questions or rules, please let me know and I'll edit this post. I think the rules should be posted as the first post every week.
If you have a spread you'd like to submit for the "Spread of the Week", PM me and I'll add it to the queue. Potential spreads should be 10 cards or less, for ease of posting and to not overwhelm newbies who'd like to participate.
As usual, the first person to respond will read for me, and I will read for the last person to respond. :)

Ok, this is one that I just made up right this second! Woot! LOL I've been doing alot of thinking about shadow work recently, and also about how others see us. Other people can be like a mirror (sometimes it's a Fun House Mirror) in which we can see ourselves. So, I thought, let's not make this too terribly scary with the Shadow thing... but let's try to delve a little deeper and maybe see what others might see in us, for good or ill.
I hope I'm not rambling, it's late.
So, for now we're just going to explore 2 negative & 2 positive traits.
I'm going to call this one (for now):
Dark Reflections Spread
...1...
2....3
4....5
1. Significator: in this reading we're going to use one. Please shuffle and draw the first card to represent who your Querent / Client is right now. You can then continue to draw or you can shuffle and then draw the remaining cards. It's up to you, but it would be nice to know which you choose.
2. This is a positive trait that the client posseses.
3. This is the negative side of that trait.
4. This is a second positive trait.
5. And the negative side of that one.
This could always be expanded out to represent Emotional, Spiritual, Physical, Mental, etc. Or you could just keep adding Positive & Negative traits. Feel free to experiment later, but for now let's just stick with the 5 cards. :)

Sacred Circle Tarot (new deck!) and doing both book references and intuitive "spur of the moment", gut reactions. This was a bit of a challenge, as I'm used to illustrated pip cards!
I drew a significator (fanned the deck and pulled one) and then shuffled again, cut, and drew the other 4 cards.
I got a reading full of Swords!
Significator: Knight of Swords: Change - Sudden changes that may cause chaos, but in the long run will bring you to new and better things. A new idea or vision may take you away from what you thought you were going to do - allow the opportunities brought about by change.
2 - 6 of Swords: Solace - Postive trait - You know how to step away from a problem and look at it with an outsiders eye, which helps to relieve some of the inherent tension. You are not afraid to journey alone, taking the path that you know needs to be followed.
3 - 2 of Swords: Opposition - Opposite side - Sometimes stepping away from a situation results in a stalemate - you can't really move forward, but you can't really move back either. You've removed yourself from the tense situation... but haven't actually solved the problem.
4 - 7 of Swords: Diplomacy - Positive trait - You are diplomatic and tactful, know when you need to stand up for yourself and when you need to back down. You know how to work within the spirit of a place and situation, whether it be with others or in the spiritual world.
5 - Knight of Cups (reversed): Movement - Opposite side - Don't use diplomacy as a way to retreat from life and making actual decisions. Weighing the options is good, but you must also act on them. Movement blocked by intellect, as it were.
I'm not sure about this spread, in the end. I like the idea, but I think I'd prefer to use this one on myself than on someone else <grins> It's kind of personal, and probably needs more self reflection than an external reader can give. I do, however, like this deck for this type of reading (even if it does take some getting used to). I hope things make some sense, Glory.

I agree that I'd probably use it personally rather than for someone else. But in this case it seems to work at least. :D Thanks SF, I feel things did make sense.
I know I can be quite diplomatic (I get teased about it often enough!) to the point of constant fence sitting, which is something I both like about me and get frustrated with, so I definitely agree with that last one. The first one's interesting also. I'll have to think about it. Again, thanks!
Lisa, your spread is forthcoming.

Card ONe- Significator- Death
you know, I don't think I have ever seen this card as a siggy before. Hmm...
I would say that you are instigating change in your life right now. not that you are changing, but that you are causing change to occur around you- you are Death.
CArd Two- positive trait- 7 pentacles (reversed)- limitless strength- not preserverance, but the enduance of a mule- not even registering the load, simply walking. I see this also as saying that you are working hard to create this positive change around you.
Card Three- the dark side of that trait- The Fool- I see this as saying that same ability can lead you to be overworked- you simply forget to take a break! everyone needs a time to do some of the work- let those around you have a chance to change on their own.
Card four- Positive trait 2 - The Emperor- you are this emperor- divinely chosen to bring the fire of change into the lives of those around you. you recognise this authority within yourself.
Card Five. the dark side of that trait- 6 swords (reversed)- the word "retreat" isn't in your vocabulary. you have a tendancy to stand your ground no matter what, and this could cause you to alienate some folks who are pressured too much. rnemember, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him think!
wow. you're death. cool :hahugh:
I shuffled, cut, drew the siggy, then shuffled and cut again before reading.
Nice spread, Lisa!

Interesting reading!
I chose the significator by shuffling, cutting, and taking the top card. I then shuffled and cut again for the other cards.
I used the Gendron Deck.
1. Significator - Two of Swords
It looks to me like you're a fairly balanced, well-adjusted person who is in control of your thoughts and emotions. I would imagine you're a fairly diplomatic person, a peacemaker, and you are good at creating harmony around you.
2. Positive Trait - Moon Reversed
You are good at cutting through illusions and you do not allow yourself to be deceived easily. It's hard to fool you. You are quite perceptive and able to see through many things that would confuse others. You have intense emotions but you don't allow yourself to be ruled by them.
3. Negative side - The Sun
You can be too optimistic sometimes; too focused on all the wonderful things that might happen, and you might miss out on the self-analysis and self-knowledge that can come through dealing with confusion and doubt. The clarity and perception that you have can also get in the way of being in touch with your intuition and your subconscious knowledge - sometimes you are so busy thinking with your head, you forget to think with your heart.
4. Positive Trait - Strength Reversed
You are good at coping with situations where you are the underdog, and you are able to deal with people who are vain, shallow, and power-hungry. Perhaps the diplomatic skills that are shown by the Two of Swords come in handy in situations such as these! You have the ability to take imbalance and create harmony.
5. Negative Side - King of Swords
Your analytical skills and rational fair-mindedness, while normally very useful, can hurt you in situations like this. You expect others to behave with the same responsibility and fairness that you take very seriously, but not everyone is as honorable as you are. People sometimes take advantage of your good nature, and their deviousness is made easier by the fact that you aren't devious yourself, and you don't think in that way.
This was an interesting spread, and the interpretation was challenging. I've never tried to look for the "dark side" of the Sun before! 8O Anyway, Taliesyn, I hope this makes sense to you. :)

oooOOooo... maybe I should wear black today? <grins>
As far as the rest of it goes - that's absolutely true. Though the change isn't self-initiated (I've been asked to help), it is definitely a struggle sometimes. And I *do* need to learn to take breaks - hubby is always after me, especially back last semester of school, to allow myself the time to breathe (:
Very neat reading, and odd -
But then now I suppose I can scare people! I am Death! Beware! <bwahahahaha!>

Significator--The High Priestess--This card literally jumped out of the deck. When a card falls out of the deck when I am shuffling and concentrating on the querent and reading, I interpret it as a sign that this is the card that is needed for that position. Qabalistic 13th path between kether and tifareth--The crown of beauty and the beauty of the crown. This card is part of the dark night of the soul. This is the Dark Night that affects the Individuality, and to reach it, you go through the sun to reach its other side. The moon is what lets us know the sun is there even when we can't see it. This card symbolizes the connection of the opposites. This person is the connecting force between two opposits. It also has the charateristic that although they are opposites they rely on each other for their very existence, and this is the energy you are trying to make a connection between. This figure also acts as a conduit to represent the spirit. This card interpretation is one that indicates that you are striving for perfection in some way. As the symbolizm and my explanation above indicate this is a very difficult path. It is possible that this one needs to be bitten off in smaller chunks. It also appears that you are actively looking for the proper spiritual guide.
2) Two of Swords--You are a person of action and the will power to carry out the actions. A mover and a shaker.
3) The Stars--This one isn't easy for me to understand, but since I have to write something here, I would guess that you possibly neglect your creative side in your pursuit of action. Maybe too much books, and science, and not enough creativity. Are you ignoring your intuition and hunches, and waiting until you have sufficient data before you act, and in so doing missing the opportunities that are offered.
4) The Emperor--This is an extension of the two of swords, but at a higher level. This is the moving, starting, pioneer energy. Do you enjoy a good John Phillips Susa March? The trait is benevolent authority. Probably authoritative. Fair but strict. This is viewed as a good trait. There are also healing energies associated here. Which certainly jives with the healing of the rift between factions/opposites expressed in the significator.
5) Six of pentacles--The down side of this trait is that at times more balance is needed as you may tend to be more authoratatian that is necessary. What comes to mind here is, "You will do this because I'm the (boss, mom, choose and authority figure), and I told you to do it," without an explanation of why it is necessary to do what you have told them to do.
In view of the significator, I see this as two sides of an issue you are trying to be the conduit for. On some level the parties involve view you both in terms of an authoritative person of action, but that you may go overboard occassionally with that autority figure stuff, which might need some balance.
Hummmmmmmmm I find it hard to give someone a negative trait interpretation. That is my own crap coming up here. This one was not easy for me, and I hope that you will be gentle with me. Not even sure what to think about this one. Hope it makes sense to you. Let me know what you think. You may give the feedback in the thread if you so desire. I've missed something here, and I can't put my finger on it. Grrrrrr.. Let me consider this further. Unless, of course, it makes sense to you.

boy, does it ever make sence- and if you'll look back to last weeks spread, this is part of the same situation! I have a rough decision to carry thourgh with this week- I'm not very good at being the "bad guy" anymore- I guess I have really mellowed out in my old age....:abadpoker
Those really are negative traits of mine- I try to go through life with a to each his own knid of attitude- but I am in a postion where that is a hinderance- oh well, I'll get through it.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this!!
Here's my feedback.
Shatril, I just have to say that your readings are incredibly deep and profound. They touch on things that even I am not fully aware of..
Significator--The High Priestess--This card literally jumped out of the deck. When a card falls out of the deck when I am shuffling and concentrating on the querent and reading, I interpret it as a sign that this is the card that is needed for that position.
First of all - I like the idea that this card came up as my significator - this card to me symbolizes inner knowledge and wisdom, among other things, and those are things I'm trying to develop in myself. As a Virgo, I do tend to be something of a perfectionist, and I do come down on myself very hard when I (inevitably) fall short. I know, cognitively, that perfection is neither possible nor really desirable.. but somehow that doesn't stop me from feeling bad when I fail or perceive myself to fail in some way.
2) Two of Swords--You are a person of action and the will power to carry out the actions. A mover and a shaker.
Well, I do my best. ;)
Due to recent events, I've been forced to be all practical, all the time.. sometimes I don't remember to look around me and develop my creative and intuitive sides.
Well, I'm a teacher. This very much describes how I try to do my job.
Hmm. I guess I'll have to be careful of this. If anything, I tend to be a bit lenient in the classroom... so maybe the flip side of this card in this position is telling me to be more authoritarian. I just empathize with the kids too much sometimes.
In view of the significator, I see this as two sides of an issue you are trying to be the conduit for. On some level the parties involve view you both in terms of an authoritative person of action, but that you may go overboard occassionally with that autority figure stuff, which might need some balance.
I understand what you're saying here, but I'm having difficulty putting my finger on a specific two-sided issue. I'm dealing with a lot of different dualities at the moment... work/life balance, my husband's needs/my own, responsibility/the need to be less stressed.. My job itself is something I'm having mixed feelings over. So.. I think your reading has a lot of deep truth to it, but it's going to take me quite a while to properly navigate the layers of meaning and apply them.
Thank you very much for the reading, especially since it's two in a row! :)

Brightshores,
You know that High Priestess Significator is the proverbial "Both sides now card." The fact that you are dealing with dualities, and trying to balance them is well represented by the High Priestess, cuz that's who she is. I don't think this is a particularly good reading to do long distance, but I bet it is dynamite face to face. The feedback would give these cards exceptionally profound meaning.

Lisa's spread, finally! I don't use reversed normally, so I didn't here.
1. Significator: King of Wands. I drew this card randomly and didn't reshuffle afterwards, just didn't feel like I needed to. Right now, you're able to harness your own creative energy for the better, and it's making you shine. Either that or you're in a very secure relationship (whether platonic or not) with someone who just embodies creativity, and s/he is taking up your time and mind.
2. Positive Trait: The Moon. You're a creative, intuitive person. You tend to follow your gut, emotional feelings when making decisions rather than logic and reason, and considering the position of the card, this has paid off for you because those gut feelings are often correct.
3. Negative Trait: King of Pentacles. Am I correct in seeing this position as a flip side for the former? Well anyway, I feel that you hinder your own intuition with a practical mind. Perhaps you recognise your own limitations (possibly in the career world) too often for you to really trust your instinct.
4. Positive Trait: The Empress. You've lived a lot, you've seen a lot and even then, you've managed to be content in yourself and your place in the world. You're a giving person, possibly even motherly so.
5. Negative Trait: Knight of Cups. On the flipside, there is a degree of emotional need. Perhaps there is something from your partner that you long for, or in the absence of a partner, perhaps that is what you feel you need, thus your emotional wealth is hindered by need. If that makes sense.
This spread had a very male influence - perhaps there is someone in your life, whether a brother, friend, father, partner, whatever, who is bringing you down in some way.
Anyway, there ya go, hope it was at all sense-making. 8O

OMG! I laughed so hard when I read the Knight of Cups card! LOL This was a great little reading!
The 1st Moon & King of Pents was exactly right. I try to be intuitive and end up second guessing too much. I have lots of ideas that I rarely follow through on.
The 2nd with the Empress & Knight was also true, I sometimes forget about how much I've seen... I just live my life, you know... then someone will remind me about everything and I'll be in awe of myself for like... a second. LOL ;) The Knight is very true too, I've been a bit needy lately, and I have lots of male friends that I've been taking that out on, as well as poor Garehth.
Great job, Glory!

Shatril, I'll be reading for you again and I'll either get that done some time today or this evening. In the meantime I'm off to look for a new spread for next week! :)
I know this one was hard and would normally have been directed inward, but I thought it would be an interesting exercise in giving "bad news" without trying too hard to "sugarcoat" it.
Also, we sometimes don't want to see the negative in ourselves, so it was very interesting to see how other people would interpret the negative sides of our personalities. It certainly opened my eyes a bit, anyway! Thanks to all of you for hanging in there with it! :hugz:

Shatril's Reading
Ancient Egyptian Tarot:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b321/lkrough2/ShatrilReading.jpg
Significator: Ace of Wands
Positive: Queen of Swords
Negative: Judgement
Positive: High Priestess
Negative: Princess of Wands
I shuffled and laid out the cards without re-shuffling after the siggy was selected.
Very interesting that an Ace came up as a significator! I don't think I've ever had that happen before. It makes me think that you are the insitgator. You are the one that makes everything happen. When you set your mind to a goal, you don't let much stand in the way of accomplishing it.
Paired with the Queen of Swords, that makes a very strong personality! LOL I can see here that you are probably reluctant to delegate, but you do end up choosing the right person for the job, most of the time. You apply logic to the problem and don't let emotional concerns get in the way of accomplishing the task at hand. You probably think your way through all of the options before deciding on a final course of action. Judgement as a negative side to that would make me think that even though you do weigh your options and then pursue them until complete, that you aren't always a risk taker. You'll let opportunities slide by because they don't seem to be the logical choice. Your pragmatic nature holds you back from making what you see as careless choices. That can be both a good and a bad thing, as you might miss out on something great!
The High Priestess as a positive trait is so nice. She looks within and can find the answers that she needs to see. With the Princess (page) of Wands, I can see that sometimes impatience can get the better of you. I think we've discussed in a prior reading that you are a woman of action! You like to get things done, and sometimes all of that introspection is just too darn much for you and you skip it in order to get moving. Perhaps a bit of slowing down is in order? I can also maybe see some impatience in dealing with others. If someone comes to you with a problem you might get impatient if they can't see the answer as quickly as you do.
Does that make some sense for you? I hope so! :hugz:

I hope so! :hugz:
:collapse:
Boy was this right on. I bet you thought that was somewhat difficult to put all together, but that stuff fits me like a glove. When I want something or something to happen, come hell or high water, I get it or get it done. So there. I used to have lots of trouble delegating, cuz I thought I was the only one that could get it done RIGHT. That ended when I became the General Manager of a testing laboratory, as there just weren't enough hours in the day for me to get all that testing done. :rollingla Now I know how to surround myself with people that I don't have to "manage", let the do their jobs and I go about my business.
The High Priestess stuff is somewhat new. I was the person that had to have all the ducks in a row, you know. The looking within for answers is a much more recent tool in my arsenal, and one that is much more effective. Yes I have been working on some issues, and generally when I get close to something smelly I find all kinds of excuses not to continue the examination for a while, and get into something "important". Yep even my doctor told me I needed to relieve some stress. As in stop and smell the roses kind of stuff. I am extremely impatient with idiots!!!! and I seem to know more than my share of idiot. This could not possibly be a character flaw for me, could it :rollingla
