Hey everyone. I just had my second ultrasound today and found out I'm having another girl which I wasn't expecting. This baby has been the complete opposite of my daughter as far as the pregnancy goes anyway. So, naturally, I was expecting it to be a boy. But, a girl it is. Anyway, I'm having issues trying to find a name. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I knew right away what I was going to name her when I found out she was a girl. But with this one, I'm fresh out of ideas. My husband likes Harley but I'm not so sure about that one. I suggested Reagan but he made a face that said he didn't care for it so much. Anyone have any ideas?

Scarlet because we love the name, and Naomie after my grandmother who passed exactly one year before I am due to give birth.

Other names for girls that I love:

Stella
Ligia
Mina
Julia
Juliet
Elizabeth
Anne/Anna
Rachel
Grace

To mention just a few ;)

Remember a few rules when nameing a child:
Will you feel conforting hollering that name out the door for the child to come in who is playing across the street?

Will she be able to pronounce it by kindergarten?

Will she be able to learn to spell it in a reasonable amount of time?

Will a teacher be able to spell and pronounce it and call on her in class?

Will an employer be able to call them for an interview when they grow up? Or will they have to say "We had an application for a position in our company, can we speak to the applicant please?"

Would you want to be called by that name?

Beyond that, pick a name you like, just remember the child may wish to be called something different.

Usually I think it's best to have one short name, and one longer name (such as Elizabeth) that they can break into shorter names if they choose.

Ultimately, it is your choice.

What kinds of names do you like? Do you like traditional names, "modern" names, and/or ethnic names of some sort? Are there names from books, movies, mythology, or history that particularly inspire you?

One idea I saw that I thought was great advice is the following: you and your husband sit down separately, and each of you make a list of 15 names you really like and 15 names you can't stand. Then, sit down together and compare the lists, and see what you come up with together.

Congratulations and best wishes for you, your DH, your daughter, and your new baby girl! Let us know what you come up with!

I would keep in mind how a name can be changed around. My daughter is Victoria and I wont let any one call her Tori. If I wanted her named that I would have named her that. But when she was small she couldnt say the Vic part so she said Toria and it stuck. But I like the theme names lmao I have a friend who all her kids names end in o n. Brandon, Shannon, Jordon, Devon LMAO

It is hard finding names. But I do agree with some of the posters about the pronunciation and spelling. I am into 'normal' names being spelled differently but my children have always had trouble with their awards and trophies and their names being spelt wrong on them.
I do like the idea of having you and your husband writing the lists and comparing, wish I had thought of that one!

But some names I like...

Jaylyn
Summer
Oceania
Tara
Lola
Elizabeth
Tamaryn

Good luck, congratulations and I wish you good health.

Our children have names that could go for both male or female. It wasn't done intentionally, but a friend of mine did the same fully aware she was doing it. It was her view that when the resume hit the desk of Mr. employer man she did not want any prejudice as to preference of sex. So, just an idea.

My kids: Riley and Cameron one of each sex...guess which is which. LOL

It's been a while since I named my kids, but I wish I'd been a little less conservative with their names. Not butchering their names, just something a bit more unusual. AND, it would have been nice to give them 387528 middle names to choose from if they hate the first one. My fear was other kids making fun of them in school, or feeling like the weird kid because of their name. But to be honest, most of the kids in my kids' school have weird names...it's the norm now. Willow Moon is the new Elizabeth.

If vincent had been a girl we would have chosen the name Sophia Isabelle. My sister in law was relieved that he was a boy,as she plans on naming her first daughter, Isabella and would have protested. Isabelle is my grandmothers name though,so I would have kept it anyway.
My daughters name is Hannah Louise Elizabeth. Her middle names are also 2 of her grandmothers names.
We also liked : Jaden, Jade, Felicia.

good luck finding a name! :)

Maybe you want to sit on it for a while before you start puzzling over names...especially since you didn't think you were having a girl.

Let it sink in some. Then maybe it will come to you.

I know that very early on in my pregnancy it became clear that we were supposed to name this baby Willow because of how it kept popping up in everything I was reading and all of the things I was doing regarding the pregnancy (protection spells, etc)...it was like the name was given to us...and it was exactly the right name. (Or so we think--babe isn't here yet).

So, maybe take some time to get used to the idea of having another girl, and then it'll come easier for you...

My new baby niece has a name very similar to the one you like...she's Madison Lynn.

The only advice I have, besides finding a name you both like, is not naming all your little ones with the same first letter. I have three sisters, and we're Alisha, Ashley, Alayna, and Afton. It's almost impossible for people to keep us apart, and when my parents want us, they say something like, "Ali-Ash...Al..AFTON!!!!! Come here, fourth child!" ;)

I love the names Amelia and Delaney

My daughter's name is Brittany. Don't do what I did with my boys! Although I love their names, I get all frazzled when I'm yelling for/at them! LOL

They are Dillon, Jordan, Logan. The n's are what gets me! Thought it was cute at the time - oh well, live and learn right?!

I think the name Madison is very pretty, but very popular right now too. When Britt was little (she's 17 now), there were 5 Brittanys in her 3rd grade class and 6 in the other 3rd grade class. Out of 44 little 3rd grade girls, 11 of them were Brittany!!

Just a little something to think about when picking popular names. Please take no offense, just speaking from experience! :hahugh:

Madison... Oh my, that's such a English name... :p
I don't like it to be honest, but I do like the second name, Leigh. How do you pronounce that one?

My boyfriend and I like discussing about children and giving them names. At this stage, we've found a name for a girl and a boy: Fae (I wanted Fee) and Pepijn (Pippin in English).
I do have a little list... *blush*

Girls: Lili, Amber (pronounced in Dutch, not in English), Elanor, Jette and Nette (Two very Dutch names), Sorcha, Aoife,...

Boys: Pepijn, Merijn (Merry), Kei, Merlijn (Merlin) and Myrdinn.
