Hello Friends!

Well, being a noob and unable to sign up for the adopt-a-newb program, i'm going to start a new threat to get my thread posting up to 10. Now, I have several questions on a broad topic of things so if you have any helpful insights, that'd be very much appreciated.

for starters:

1.) does anyone know any good books on the following:
-Plant Alchemy
-Natural/Green/Kitchen Witchcraft
-Any books on soap/incense making
-Also, some great beginning wicca books
2.) Are there any pagan festivals/conventions anywhere around the midwest?

3.) Would anyone like to be my friend? ( haha, kinda random thought):)

Thanks!

\m/etal be with you\m/

Most states have something going on as far as any kind of gatherings go. I know we have a city meet up type one here in May, which hopefully will be quite nice.

For the topics you wanna know about, I can only think of one man: Scott Cunningham. He wrote books about all of those topics and they are all very good and easy to follow, and he always did his research.

As for being your friend, why the hell not. PM me and I'll give you my email.

as for Kitchen Witchcraft i dont know too much about it myself yet but there is a section here on MW to do with it http://www.mysticwicks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=263

i would also recommend the pagan/wiccan section on about.com
http://paganwiccan.about.com/
about.com also has info on other pagan and non pagan paths.

as for books, i dont really have many because i tend to just use here and the internet...but i found "Everything you need to know about Paganism" really good. i think it is by Selene Silverwind. i got it in Borders book shop <-- Borders is also a book shop which has a small section of books including on Wicca which could be of some use.. the book has a a lot of info of Wicca, as well as Asatru, Druid, Vodun and Santeria, Shamanism and some other tradtions, such as Kemeticism and more. also a bit on magic.
i think if you google borders book store you will find a link to there website.

Amazon.com may have some good books on there.

also good sites:

http://wicca.timerift.net/
http://www.witchvox.com/
http://web.archive.org/web/19960101-20051231re_/http://www.whywiccanssuck.com/ <-- an interesting read too

hope i havent gone too overboard lol

if you need a friend then sure im here :D PM me if ya want.

as for your posting count, just read through threads of interest and post your responses.

1.) does anyone know any good books on the following:
-Plant Alchemy

You might want to check out www.alchemywebsite.com (http://www.alchemywebsite.com) It's run by Adam Mclean and is one of the best internet sources for Alchemy you could hope for. Look for a book called John Reid's Course on Practical Alchemy. You can find it there for free, but I don't think you can find it in print. You don't really need to spend as much money on lab equiptment as he say's though, most plant alchemy can be done really cheaply. It's the timing with the planets and your own experience that makes the real work happen. Also Check out the articles on plant alchemy by Mark Stavish in the articles section on practical Alchemy. If your still interested I would recommend Mark Stavish's book 'Path of Alchemy'. It's basically a condensed version of the courses used by the French alchemist Jean Dubuis in his group Le Philosophes du Nature, which had a sister group in the U.S.A. Both groups are now closed but you can find all of their courses on cd-rom through Triad Publishing. If that's not enough for you :) check out 'The Practical Handbook of Plant Alchemy' by Manfred Junius and all of the books put out by Frater Albertus. Especially 'Alchemists Handbook'. It's a small book but it's packed with information. Good luck, if you decide you really want to delve into Alchemy your looking at a life long commitment and a lot of study. Though I believe it's well worth it. :)
