i am of course refering to that great Priapic icon of the late twentieth century...
The Electric Guitar!
some may worship at the temple of the great and powerful Hendrix, others prefer the earlier titans like Les Paul or Django Rheinhart. and then there are the devotees of the young demi-gods of the later pantheons, like Randy Rhodes or Dave Navarro.
all of them had that special something that endeared them to their disciples, and that was the sacred Stratocaster, or the libidinous Les Paul, or the ultimate in phallic symbolism the Gibson 'Flying V'!
whatever it is, and whatever kind of music you listen to, the electric guitar has probably had an impact on your life.
here's a few interesting links...

Oh the thread is about guitars! Originally, I thought that the thread would be about some modern revival of the god Priapus and his Herm statues. Silly me! :T

hmmm... watching the Rolling Stones and the Big Hair bands of the 80's on SNL I can understand that totally.... the way they play and hold their guitars if very phallic-like... even the guys with mikes use the same body language... weird..

I heard that the way a guitar player looks when playing his/her guitar is how s/he looks when making love to you. :D

Good Idea for a thread, Greenman, but do you mind if we move it over to the Music Forum? I think they could probably use it there ....:)
My close friend was trained in Classical Guitar, before moving onto Rock. One of his favorite artist was Yinvweigh Malmstein (sp)....he used to make me endure hours of the music. It's good stuff...just loud.
My Brother plays a Yamaha Acoustic, a Fender Strat, and a Gibson Acoustic :)

I thought this was something else, too....*sigh*
I think this can be classed as deceptive advertising. :rotfl:

Lunar Myst you are more than right...if he is in tune with his intrument and of spiritual nature he will adore and approach his guitar as he would the wman he adores...My twin flame & dearest soul mate is one of Nashville's finest musicians...And he wears the same seren and passionate llok when he plays as when he kneels above me..Tis an amazing thing.....

in ancient times statuary was commonly used to symbolise the God.
nowadays, maybe it's the techno-phallus. and the guitar fills that need rather well...

lol. cool site. I don't know if I need a kilt though. How does that site support your phallic theory? I didn't see any guitars on the site. I do understand your theory though. Why else would rock bands have so many groupies?

sorry, that was an off-topic response to SL's 'Rock' comment.
but i was serious when i posted this here. i believe the guitar IS the modern day equivalent of ancient phallic symbolism.
the groupies, as you said.
Frank Zappa has a chapter on this in his book 'The Real Frank Zappa Book'. he says the purpose of the guitar solo was to ensure that the guitar player got, well... 'the big one' shall we say. he goes on about making sure you get the point across by always ending your solo by going UP the scale, repeating and holding the last note at the climax.
the symbolism is almost too obvious.

Im the girl with the left hand thingee..I think I now have figured out what it is.or at least what it does...It receives the hearbest of my twin flame. It also maintains the same "pocket" as his and our other soul mate drummer..Its a growing experience and I am loving it...
