Spread of the Week rules / instructions:

1. A new spread will be posted weekly (hopefully I'll manage it every Thursday and we may change it to bi-weekly or monthly if weekly doesn't seem like enough time to get the readings done).

2. If you'd like to attempt the spread and have a reading done for you using that spread in return, post in the thread.

3. The first person to post will receive the first reading from the 2nd person to post, etc. So, whoever posts in front of you is who you read for, and whoever posts behind you is who is reading for you.

4. The readings should be posted in the thread so that others can read them (after all, this is for the purposes of learning and we all learn better by reading over examples by others) UNLESS the reader deems that the information is too personal to be shared on an open board. If that is the case, then the reader should PM the person they are reading for, but post in the thread that the results were personal and their querent has been PM'd with the results of the reading.

5. Do not post in the threads if you are not willing to read for others. This is a reading exchange, not a free reading.

6. Use only the spread posted. You may use whatever deck you like.

If anyone else can think of any additional questions or rules, please let me know and I'll edit this post. I think the rules should be posted as the first post every week.

If you have a spread you'd like to submit for the "Spread of the Week", PM me and I'll add it to the queue. Potential spreads should be 10 cards or less, for ease of posting and to not overwhelm newbies who'd like to participate.

As usual, the first person to respond will read for me, and I will read for the last person to respond. :)

I thought it might be fun to do a St. Patrick's Day spread. :)

So, I wandered over to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Patrick

And here's what I've come up with, 3 cards & really easy this go 'round:

1. What holds you back that needs to be released ? (Patrick was imprisoned when young)

2. What is the "great work" you need to achieve? (He is credited with driving the "snakes" from Ireland)

3. What voice cries out to be heard? (This is mentioned as his emotional response to a letter he read, but I believe that we can use it as a "subconcious" card.)

I thought that we've had some heavy lifting type spreads for a while, so a nice easy 3 card will be a nice break. We'll have a larger one next week! But for now, just relax and enjoy the glory that is tarot.

Using the Witches Tarot

1. What holds you back that needs to be released ? (Patrick was imprisoned when young)

The Ace of Cups came up in this position. To me this seems to mean that you need to release emotional attitude. Or it could be that you need to adjust some old emotions to fit the current situation

2. What is the "great work" you need to achieve? (He is credited with driving the "snakes" from Ireland)
The four of wands landed here. This to me is becoming part of a more spiritual body, which ultimately leads to hight enlightenment.

3. What voice cries out to be heard? (This is mentioned as his emotional response to a letter he read, but I believe that we can use it as a "subconcious" card.)

The Seeker landed here. It is my guess that some part of you wants to reach out to the Ancient Ones for enlightenment, but something in you is holding that back.

As I look at this card I'm lead to say that the four of wands and the Seeker are part of the same cloth. It is the Seeker that is shining the light the is split into four seperate beams that is shining on the faces of the four people with the wands.

Let me know if this makes sense to you.

Using RWS. Hurry up, Amazon.

1. What is holding you back? Eight of Swords. It seems like you're the one holding yourself back. Insecurities and fears paralyse your ability to make decisions and steps towards your goals. Be courageous, no matter what you're feeling or thinking.

2. What is the great work you have to achieve? Queen of Wands. Step up and take a leadership role in helping others discover and nuture their own intuition and ability! Your knowledge and friendliness will help people take a shine to you and listen, so go for it.

3. What voice cries out to be heard? Seven of Swords. Perhaps you are regretting some choices you have made in the past, and this is hindering you. You've cut your losses to move on, but you're still getting trapped by looking back. It's time to move on both in body and mind, and face the future.

Thanks, Shatril! I probably do have some emotional stuff to release. I've been working on it for a while now, but there is still a long way to go.

The light of the Seeker shining on 4 faces... hmmmm. If we take the Seeker to be me, then it could possibly be me & my 3 kids & hubby. Or it could be me and the 4 other (official) members of my coven.

If we take the Seeker as not me... then I could be one of the 4 faces it is shining on.

If I am neither of those, then perhaps there are 4 deities, elements, etc. that can help me?

Have I mentioned before that I tend to over-analyze??? ;) I'll think on it and perhaps meditate on it tonight.

If you have the witches deck I think that you would agree that the 4 would be the covenors, and it looks like you would be possibly teaching them something or other. Is there one great skill (tarot for example maybe) that you are teaching them or more even? Those cards aren't family issue things for sure.

Is there one great skill (tarot for example maybe) that you are teaching them or more even? We actually ARE learning tarot! LOL That is so funny. We're currently doing Mary K. Greer's 21 Ways to Read a Tarot Card together. And, I'm sort of de-facto HPS, so I'm about as in charge as one can be in an egalitarian coven. LOL Mostly I just set up what dates we're going to get together and give ideas for rituals.

So, now that I know we are focused more on the coven... I'm going to say that I think that this is about me wanting to incorporate more serious workings into our rituals. We don't reach out to deity quite often enough, and I really miss doing the Drawing Down that we used to do with our previous HPS.

Thanks! I'll be working on this! :D

Well girl that looks like maybe the coven is your great work. I used the tarot thing cuz I wasn't sure of the gut feel I had. I really think that this work went beyond the tarot, but it was easy to use that as I was sure that you would be teaching in that are for sure. The fact that you are de Facto HPS then this certainly plays well with that reading also.

Oh Glory this cut so close to the bone, that my first desire was to completely deny it. However, you have caught me out. I do find myself paralysed by my own insecurities. I have some things I really want to do, but I am afraid I will fail.

Yep that is one of the things that I want to do. I spent so many years denying my instincts and intuition, and it hurt me in so many ways. I would like to keep others from making the same mistakes.

Yep again, I made like 3 bad husband choices, and I keep looking back at the father of my children and wander why I left the security of his home. We have been divorced for 28 years, and after we remarried I realized that I had made a mistake. Ah well. That is past history now. You are right to admonish me to move on.

Hi Glory... here's what I came up with for you.

Goddess Deck

1) What holds you back that needs to be released?
Balance (Temperance) - Yemana
Something about your life is not in harmony, not in balance. Perhaps this is a problem with a relationship where one person is giving too much and not getting enough back. Or, it could be simply an aspect of your personality that you haven't been able to integrate fully into your life as of yet. Whatever this element is, it needs to be brought back into balance before you can grow.

2) What is the great work you need to achieve?
6 of Swords Reversed
This card could indicate one of two things. Perhaps you have been somewhat nomadic; traveling and on the go all your life, and you need to learn to settle down and put down roots. Conversely, it could indicate that you have a dream to travel more and see the world. Or, I suppose, both could be true.

3) What voice cries out to be heard?
2 of Staves
To me, this indicates that you are a visionary. You are a very creative person and have the ability to inspire others. This is a great gift - let it out! :D (This card also might indicate that you have a dream of starting a new job or a new business where you can use your creativity. Go for it!)

Hope this makes sense to you! This spread was a bit hard for me to do over the internet - I think it would have been easier to do this in person; the feedback might have been helpful for the Balance card in particular. I think it's a good spread, though - there's a lot of meaning to the questions for each card. :)

The first card will require some thought. I feel as though it rings true, I just can't put my finger on it. I'll meditate so to speak on it for a while, I think.

The middle card is right on the money! I have big plans of travel and places I want to see and visit, and I'm pushing money towards saving for it. I'll either end up taking a break in my studies to travel for a year, or wait until afterwards, but it will happen.

The last one is very encouraging! I like to think I have creative potential and ability, but I haven't been tapping it recently, so maybe I should start again. Thank you Brightshores!!

Glad you liked it, Glory! :)

I couldn't quite nail down the meaning of the first card either... it was elusive, given the nature of the spread. I felt like it was there, but I couldn't quite tell the meaning of it. It's one of those introspective cards. Hopefully you will be able to make some sense of it!

For Taliesyn (using my new Revelations deck):

1. What holds you back that needs to be released?
Four of Swords (Reversed): Don't overtax yourself in too many projects and commitments - take time to rest before you burn out and are forced to do so. The "holding back" is from overextending yourself.

2. What is the "great work" you need to achieve?
Page of Cups: The knowledge of yourself and realization of your own inner strengths and weaknesses. This is a card of self exploration and understanding, and of strengthening intuition.

3. What voice cries out to be heard? The Hermit (IX): The voice of the inner world, of silence and solitude - spirituality, philosophy, meditation, and inner guidance are all possible along the 'darkened' inner path.

I think all three of these cards pretty clearly state a turn away from the exterior commitments and a time to center yourself. I also think it's kind of cool that the "voice crying out" is actually a person (The Hermit, your subconscious). Based on an earlier reading that I did for you... this seems along the same vein as that one too <smiles>.

This is really what's going on. I recently dropped my student. Things weren't working out. Now, I feel like I am low on energy, and I don't have any drive to do any of my spiritual work. I had thought it was a bit of depression, but your reading makes it seem that I had really been pushing myself too hard (wich I had) and that a bit of cleansing and healing, meditaton and centering- a vacation, as it were, is really what I need. Thanks for the reading, SF.

1. What holds you back that needs to be released ? (Patrick was imprisoned when young) The Emperor (reversed)- I see this as saying that you are holding onto something that is out of your control- the energy you are putting into this is keeping you from having enough energy to proceed on your path.
2. What is the "great work" you need to achieve? (He is credited with driving the "snakes" from Ireland) THe Knight of Wands- I see this in this reading to say you are the knight- you are questing and activly searching for your spiritual path.
3. What voice cries out to be heard? (This is mentioned as his emotional response to a letter he read, but I believe that we can use it as a "subconcious" card.) 9 cups- you are that voices- your spirit and your emotins are bottled up- release them. scream, if you need to, but let it out! those around you need to hear what you have to say, and you need them to hear it.

all in all, I would say that the thing holding you back is a chaotic situation, one you should have gotten out of a while back. it is keeping you from being able to follow your path. if you can open up to those around you and speak your truth, it should help. at least you wouldn't have to hide those thouhgts and feelings anymore.

Hope it helps- sorry for the wait.
Many Blessings

:fpraise: Don't apologize... it was definitely worth the wait!

This is absolutely spot-on. Also - it's exactly what I needed to hear at the moment. I think the Emperor reversed represents my husband and a situation he's in right now - it's out of my control but I've been desperately trying to fix it for quite a while. It is a chaotic situation, and it does drain my energy for pretty much everyting else. And, I am quite isolated where I am right now, and have few people to talk to.

Thank you for the reading.. it was really what I needed to hear, and made me feel a bit better. Actually, It almost made me cry. In a good way. :)

Thank you, my friend. :)

For SentineledFirs:

Tarot of the Cloisters

Four of Pentacles
Hierophant
Nine of Staves

Are you going to school right now? The 4 of Pents I often see as investing in yourself and I often think of college or something... spending your money on your education, which pays off in the end. The Hierophant also makes me think of education.

Here though, if it is education related, I think you need to stop worrying so much about the money. I kind of also get the feeling that you would like to teach, and you are just not sure of how much money you need to invest in that venture. I'm sure you'll find a way to make it work for you, since teaching or some type of education seems to be your "great work". The Hierophant is charged with educating the young or new to the path... that is what I think you will ultimately do. Perhaps more learning is needed on your part before you can pass what you know on to others.

The 9 of Wands, makes me think of defense. Perhaps you have to defend your choice of learning to someone? Someone you know is not thrilled with you spending money on the things you are interested in learning? Ultimately you know what it is you need, defend your choices and your actions.

I hope some of that makes sense!

Definitely does! I'm actually *just* out of school, and trying to decide whether to go back for a masters in my field, go get an AA or BA in creative writing, or to get my certification and teach HS. I've always wanted to teach - but just *what* I would teach is pretty sketchy.

Perhaps I ought to spend some time looking at the HS thing - I'm qualified (plus about 6 months of night classes), and that's a time when you can really make a difference in how people look at a subject.

As for defending - the choice to go and teach (or to go and get a totally different degree) will come with defending that to my parents, who think that, regardless of my hubby's current school loans, I need to be back in school *now* or I"ll never go back - even though i just graduated in December. And there are *definitely* money worries if I go back to school.

Thank you so much - this really made a lot of sense.
