And on this day, I would like to pay tribute to those American Forefathers who started a revolution, and broke away from England because they didn't like the taxes imposed on them...

. . .since the forefathers couldn't vote in Parliamentary elections. Ergo, taxation without representation.

That analogy just doesn't hold anymore. American citizens have the power to change the aspects of government they don't like--but too many have been brainwashed into thinking they can't make a difference. However, when enough people speak up concerning a particular issue, the politicians always listen.

Remember, politicians can be rented--but they can't be bought, because no amount of money can buy your vote.

All I can say is, I'm glad I did them last week! No standing in line at the post office for me!

And boy did I have a HUGE tax bill this year.

I actually had a good-sized refund. I planned it that way. . . I like having something to look forward to when I file my taxes. It also gets them out of the way early--I tend to file in February. This year, I e-filed (the Air Force prepares and files tax forms for its members at no cost) and had my refund by the first of March.

'Tis better to PAY taxes than to get a refund.

Refunds means the government has gotten to use your hard earned money all year at NO INTEREST.

Yeah, so then I would have spent it, and then griped because I wouldn't have had the money to pay my taxes come 15 April. :p No, no, I like refunds, they pay for things like down payments on engagement rings.

Seriously, it may be better advice to owe taxes from a fiscal standpoint. . . but from an emotional standpoint, it's much more rewarding to have the money come back to me. And that means more to me than a couple percentage points' interest.

Today is my older bro's birthday. He usually grumbles about it, but I saw him yesterday & gave him a really cool present (Playstation 2--yep, I'm an awesome sister :D ).

My taxes were done in Feb. because I go to a 'take a number & wait' place & I want them done before the place gets busy.
I haven't done my own taxes in years. The laws & rules are so complex & strange & seem to change so often that I was getting letters from our pals at the IRS every year about the dumb mistakes I made. It's worth the money to have someone else keep track of all the silly blankety-blank rules.

I heartily agree!! I would rather have use of ALL my money during the year and owe, than let them have it interest free!

My philosophy has always been that as long a I owe less that about $2000 I'm thrilled!

I did my taxes on Sunday. When I dropped 'em off at the post office it was kind of funny to see the box overflowing with other people's tax returns. I do love procrastination!

Standing in line at the post office? You mean not everyone filed electronically? *gasp*

We're getting back almost 2 grand, which is good, since we're getting ready to buy a new car. woohoo!
