I have calmed down now, and got some good advice from some wonderful dog people that I know.
Last night, about 830 or so in the evening, Bailey, my german shepherd, attacked my little mix, Buddy.
Mace, my white german shepherd was in his crate. I was at the computer and Bailey and Buddy were behind me, in the kitchen. Sleeping. I see them, I turn around in my little chair and type just a few things and all of a sudden there is this god awful noise and I turn, and Bailey is attacking Buddy.
I thought that she was going to kill him.
I tried getting her off and nothing worked. Buddy wasnt fighting back, he was trying to get away.
Bailey is 6yrs old and NEVER, EVER showed ANYTHING like this toward ANY other animal..EVER.
I did everything is was 'supose' to to get her off and it didnt work, so finally I just threw myself ontop of Bailey and hooked my arms around her neck, getting bit by someone in the process, I dont know who. I didnt notice until after I got the broke up and seperated.
Buddy finally got loose and I had my daughter take him into my room and I put Bailey outside.
Buddy is OK, was shooken up and is still jumpy today, but he has no cuts or anything, hes not 'hurt' physically.
I am keeping them seperated for now, they were together briefly when I was rotating them in and out and she just sniffed him like 'woah, what happened to you?'
I have an apt with the vet next week, to get bloodwork done. I am worried about lyme disease, or the fact that she might have had a seziurre and when she came out of it she was confused and didnt know who or what she was going after.
She has hip problems and it could have just been a freak accident that'll never happen again, but Buddy might have got up and I didnt hear him and he might have stepped on her. Her being dead asleep and then all of a sudden in pain like that..she might not have realized what she was doing..in fight or flight mode..she fights and she just might not have realized who it was.
I dont know...Im hoping that the vet and bloodwork will tell me something. Untill then, they are only briefly interacting unless my husband is home with me and im not here at home with just me and the kids.
