Merry Meet All:

I'm new to the site so I just wanted to say hi and hit you all with a quick couple of trivia questions. The first correct post gets a Well done and a special thought by yours truly.

Ok, here goes, the questions are:

What is 'Malleus Maleficarum' ?

What is, 'Elder Futhark'?

What is 'Summer Lands'?

I know this will be rather easy for some and to those I ask if you can hold off for a short time so others may learn from their search. I hope you all have fun with this one. I'll think up some harder stuff for the knowledgeable as well later.

For the runes they make the call,
May mother earth keep us all.
Remember the sacred law of three,
Merry Part and Blessed Be.

What is 'Malleus Maleficarum' ? --- "The Witches Hammer" a book used for witch hunts

What is, 'Elder Futhark'? --- One credited for the Runes

What is 'Summer Lands'? --- Where some believe they go after this life.

There are more detail available and it is suggested that you find your own answers. Research is part of learning the craft, having things handed to you is not research, getting a "taste" is one thing, but you should do your own looking.

Blessings Thundderwolf!

I'm probably within 20 minutes of you right now, sitting here at my computer in Kanata...! If you like, I can do some research into those three topics (maybe even find a copy of Malleus Magnificarum and make it like Aradia: Gospel of Witches is in Tintagel) and either post them in the message board or make pages out of them...let me know what you think, okay? I'm always looking for a challenge. By the way, what do you think of Tintagel?

Hey, I'm from the Prior, if you like, gimme a buzz!

Love light and NO MORE SNOW!!!!! YAY!

Em Hotep (in peace),
OK here goes....
In 1486 the book Malleus Malleficrum (the witch hammer) was written by two German monks: Heinrich Institoris Kramer and Jakob Sprenger. In this book instructions were giving for the prosecution of witches. When it was first submitted it couldnt be published because of the appointed censor at the time. So Kramer and Sprenger forged the approdation of the whole faculty which was not discovered until 1898! Well, that started a crazy of witch killing! A rough estimate of the total number of people burned, hung, or tortured to death on the charge of witchcraft is nine million. To get back on the book....it has 3 parts the 1st says "the 3 neccessary concomitants of witchcraft are the Devil, a witch, and the permission of almighty god" and th rest deals with "how witches can influence lovers, childeren, ect..in a bad way" pretty detailed. The 2nd part "treating of the methods by which works of witchcraft are wrought and directed, and how they may be successfully anulled and dissolved" this deals with how "witches use devils to work magick" The 3rd part "relating to the judicial courts aganist witches and indeed all heretics". "who are the fit and proper judges for the trials of witches?" is the first question in this section. And it goes on saying how witches should be dealt with in trials....As for the other questions Ill let someone else have a go at them!

This info is from "The Complete Book of Witchcraft" by Ray Buckland-my personal fav*Big Grin*

Someone from Europe was selling on E-Bay 3 weeks ago one of the original Malleus Maleficarum books. This bookseller posted 6 pictures of it. The pages were aged (obviously), but it seemed to be a very hot item among the book collectors bidding on it. Last I knew, the book was at $700.00.
