The Archeon Tarot is pretty rad, and many find it challenging. It has it's fair share of darkness, and absolutely beautiful artwork. New symbols for the traditional meanings and heavy influences from the artist's personal mythos make it tricky, but good-tricky.

The Enochian isn't challenging enough??? LOL
Check out the Book of Kaos, maybe...
I'm not exactly sure what kind of challenge you are wanting.

If you are looking for a challenge, try the Lakota Sweatlodge Cards. This is not a traditional tarot, but the cards will challenge you at every turn. They are the most powerful set of cards I have. Just be prepared to do some soul searching and meditation when you start working with them. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/lakota-sweat-lodge/
If you are looking for a traditional deck, I really love The Witches Tarot. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/witches/

A lot depends on what you consider to be challenging.
Not at all traditional tarot, but I'm very much enjoying the LS Tarot of Metamorphosis.

I've heard enough rave reviews for the Medieveal Scapini deck that I bought it this past weekend:

Read the reviews there at aeclectic and also at www.amazon.com for more viewpoints.

For a traditional deck, I find the Tarot Art Nouveau very challening, so much so that I've given up trying to read with it - I just can't jive with those cards.

Medieveal Scapini - I have that one in fact that was the last deck i bought from a member here. I found it easy to read and some very interesting cards in it art wise.
Tarot Art Nouveau - is on my wish list just for the art style.... I have another one to darn forget the persons name who created i...
Thanks wolf that sounds interesting :D

If you are looking for a traditional deck, I really love The Witches Tarot. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/witches/The Witches Tarot was on my list when I first started using Tarot 11 years ago but the draw just is not there anymore. And as for the other deck you mentioned that sounds like what I am looking for ....
The Enochian isn't challenging enough??? LOL

I'm not exactly sure what kind of challenge you are wanting. :confused:I want symbolism that is challenging to read to think on I guess is what I am getting at... AS I am starting to work on my own decks again and my meditation deck I guess I just want something to shake me up..
Using the decks I have is no longer challenging to me to use they are all to familiar ... and I want to try something new...
And as for the Enochian deck it is an awesome deck I love it, it was the third deck I ever bought ... it now is a case of getting reaquainted with it so I can do the next thing with the cards and that is some of the basic rituals that come with the deck.
You know what I just realised one type of deck that I have never used before is the Thoth decks... the one my friend had hurt my eyes which I found weird that the colour orange would do that...
I have heard of the Archeon Tarot before will check it out.
Thanks everyone for your in put :D

For a new challenge, you already mentioned the Thoth, also the Tarot of Marseilles if you haven't used that before since reading minors with pips may be challenging too.

It took me almost four years to figure out the Gendron tarot... but it really depends on what kind of symbolism you're looking for. Then again, I might just be simpleminded.

Another vote for the Thoth here! I've found it to be so "dense" and challenging that, so far, I can only use it for spellwork despite being in love with it.
As for the orange you mention, from what I've seen there appear to be slight variations in the colors of the cards depending on which version of them you get. Mine are "cooler" in tone, more bluish and muted than some other decks I've seen.

I bought this dragon deck for a friend of mine once I never really looked at it.. but the artwork was beautiful from what I did see and she says she loves it.. though I did buy it at a Waldon bookstore meh.. I've only had the mythic tarot and this one other deck taht I can't recall it's name but it was dead.. it only picked up energy from my deck and we burned it.

I'm not a big fan of the art in the LS Gothic Vampire Tarot.... but, it has a good vibe to it, at least for me. I'm going to try a 3-card draw here in a little bit... I'll let you know what I think then. :p

Alrighty.
I did a past, present, future - 3 card draw.
Past - 3 of swords - Pain, imprisonment, suffering.
Present - Knave of pentacles - Instinct, greediness, talent without experience.
(Also funny.)
Future - Temperance - Blood - Care, nourishment, life, spiritual inspiration.
(Ok, I'm sorry... but this one just made me laugh. Inside thing. )
Overall... not too bad. First reading with the deck, and I'd say it's got me down pretty well. :)

As for me I had the Da Vinci Tarot in my hand today and have wanted it for years just cause and well wound up putting it back and nothing at the book store was drawing my attention... So down to the next store and see what they have there ... and if they have any decks mentioned here.
Till tomorrow :)

DISCLAIMER: I know the deck was published by a Table Top RPG company. It's still a valid and complete deck.
If you can find it, I'm not sure if it's still in print, "The Mage Tarot" deck (designed by the makers of the Whitewolf RPG Mage: The Ascencion in the '90s) is very nice deck. I like it becauce it doesn't eschew technology in it's depictions. It is a very modern deck.

Several of the LoScarabeo decks do that ... there is modern imagery in the Tarot of the 78 Doors and the Tarot of Metamorphosis (those are the two that I can think of off the top of my head because I use them fairly often).

I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the Enochain deck ? I was looking at this deck during my last trip to the book store and thought long and hard about picking it up but the 100 + I was spending on books at the time was the deciding factor on leaving the 60 dollar Enochian deck on the stand where I first saw it :P

Yes, the Visconti tarot...it was given to me by a dear friend and it has become my favorite deck. It's golden and magical and feels enchanting in my hands...that describes the tarot deck as well as the friend who gave it to me.

Oh that is not a problem. And yes the deck is interesting I like the art work. I would like to know how the creator of the deck came up with his choice of runes to what cards cause some of them I scratch my head at...
WOGIT
May 26th, 2007, 12:56 PM
I do not know for a fact one way or the other but I think they are , the ruins , to be used on there own and not associated with the card they are printed on . But having said that I could very well be wrong . I will check out the book that came with the deck tonight and see if any explanation was given .

Ok here is what the The Quest Tarot book says about the Rune Stones depicted on the cards and I quote " No matter what the actual rune number is you will see in the following pages the name of the rune and the Major Arcana card on which it appears .
The nature and meanings of the runes is an incredibly vast and complex topic. Many authors have similar yet different interpretations of these ancient symbols , both from personal use and from the study of many books. You may find that some of these descriptions may differ , to some degree , from a perspective you have or have read about. You can use your runic system of interpretation with these symbols or use the definitions as given here . Whichever you chose , I hope that these ancient stone symbols can help you in your quest for the subtle answers to your questions ."
It then goes on to give there meaning of each rune with no mention of it relating to the card it is printed on so I am left believing that they are ment to be used sepratly from the cards meaning . It seems the maker of this deck just wanted to provide something extra in the deck , which they did by also adding The I ching , Kabbalah as well as a few other things . This deck has a lot and the book it comes with covers each topic / feature of the deck . The book it comes with is 296 pages long and is about 6 inch by 8 inch in size .
I hope this info helps
