I bought German Camomile today - 1 friggin gm cost me an arm and leg!

I know Rose, Ylang Ylang are pretty expensive, too, but I think I want to be 'warned' beforehand...had no idea people meant 'expensive' to be *that* expensive...

Which are the expensive oils? How much do they normally cost? What Latin names should we look for?

(you can't tell I got shocked by the price of the camomile, can you?)

Yeah, chamomile is one of the expensive ones! Rose, chamomile, melissa true, vanilla, helichrysum are a few I can think off, right off.

Even though the plants themselves are common place, the oils of these plants are so volitile or hard to distill that it makes them very expensive. By the time it makes its way through various traders & brokers to us, you have to give up your first born for some of these oils.

Sandalwood, neroli and jasmine are very expensive too. I prieced out sandalwood and it was over $30 for an ounce.

Here is a site, I have purchased from. I thought there prices were reasonable and I had a good experience ordering. You can get a good idea of the prices of the oils too.
