If only the hairs on my head could grow as well as the hairs on the rest of my body... I wax all the time, but waiting for it to grow and then wax is such a hassle. Does anybody know of an oil/tonic I can rub onto those areas that would prevent hair growth (even if results are slow)?

I'll be interested to see what suggestions people have, too. The only thing I've used is waxing. I tried the Nair product (on my legs)... my skin didn't like that too much!

I've been going through my notes & stuff. I can find lots of things to recomend for growth of hair but nothing so far to stop it. :) I'll keep looking. Heh! A new challenge!

I think if there was a safe, easy herbal answer, it would have been marketed already! :)
I think we're stuck with waxing and shaving...

Wildchild....if you accept this challenge, I would SO love to hear the results!
I, too, have problems using Nair. I have really sensitive skin, and i break out in this nasty rash that burns when you itch it. 8O its really gross. lol sorry to share this. ;):p
anyhoo...any findings..send them this way.

Ick! Nair nasty!
If you want to go the non-razor route, try a decent electric shaver. They're expensive, but work far better than Nair without the nasty chemicals!
(I learned about electric shavers when I went on anti-coagulants & couldn't use a razor. With a razor, you take off a thin layer of skin each shave... then grow scar tissue to replace it. All this is very BAD if you're on anti-coagulants.)
As for facial hair,... can't say I've heard of anthing short of repeated plucking (with tweezers, wax, or threads) or electrolysis.

I too would love to find an answer for this question!
Umm Wildchild if you get some leads and want volunteers to try out a treatment- I am willing to donate my body to herbal science! lol
:p

I can't do the wax thang... I'm a wuss! Ouch!
There are lotions out there that are "suppose" to thin out hair. I'm actully using some right now, and I have noticed a difference. I can't remember what its called, I'll have to look.

Electrolisis is the closest thing to what you want. It is lengthy and expensive, but effective and permanent.
What happens is that a technician takes a little grip needle, and clips it onto a single hair, and sends a pulse of electricity into it. The cells holding the hair die, and it just falls out. The whole follicle dies, and doesn't grow back. However, new follicles can appear and sprout up new hairs, but that takes years.

Is that painful? Has anyone here tried this yet?

I've heard that laser hair removal is becoming really popular now. I think it's supposed to be painless.

From what I understand, electrolysis is not entirely painless. It "pinches" or "stings" to some minor degree.

Yvonne's stuck thread has an alternative recipe for biore strips, and I am missing some hair from my scalp (only the little fuzzies around the edges). it didn't hurt AT ALL to use, but I haven't tried it for waxing, yet :)
it consists of:
1 packet unflavored knoz gelatin
1. 1/2 tablespoons milk
microwave 10 seconds, let dry for1/2 hour. It is only dry when it is hard and not sticky or gooey.
hey, it might work.

Thanks! I was wondering how that would work. I've been trying to come up with a herbal wax method. Been experimenting with beeswax.

Any progress on that, Wild?
I recently bought a product that seems to actually work. It's called a facial buffer and the brand name is Hair-Off. It's a little abrasive type pad that supposedly buffs the hair off in between waxings, etc. This one is for the face. I was a little sore the first time I used it but there was no rash or redness. It does seem to smooth the hair off but it doesn't last very long, maybe a day or two. It is handy when you don't have time to do anything else.
*sighs* Nothing I've tried has worked and I'm tired of burns and rashes. My cousin tried the prescription product that supposedly stops hair growth and she says that it works, but it's expensive.

No luck yet. Tried a waxing with beeswax & fabric strips. That seems to work but it hurts. :( I've come across a lot of stuff to make your hair grow...for your head, though.

hair wax is made of mostly honey, surprise! you might try that, and add some arrowroot powder to thicken it...
et me know if it works-- i got ticked off at my leg hair and just shaved it off--- oops. my cat nosed up to me and then looked as if i had insulted her by shaving, must have been the pricklies

I used to sugar... but then i got sick of doing it myself and now get professionally waxed (found a really cheap place)...
then what about something to "stunt" or kill the root once you have been waxed, something you put on right away to go in and get rid of those darn roots! :)
also tried that Nads stuff... nothing.
tried everything i think... so far waxing is best... *sigh*

Nads didn't work for me either, except for the area between my eyebrows and hairline. Probably because those hairs are really long. I didn't find waxing to work well enough to be worth the expense, so here I still am with the razor :(

cant use nads as i am allergic to it
i wax the eyebrows and lip and i used to wax the chin till it gave me ingrown hairs :( so i pluck that area myself ouch lol
