playing cards and tarot?

Do playing cards have similarity and/or have/can they be used as tarot cards?

There is some similarity insofar as the tarot minors share the same cards as a playing card deck, with the addition of Pages (the Knights are like Jacks). Playing cards can't be used for a tarot reading since they don't have the tarot majors (except for the Joker is like the Fool). They can be used for cartomancy (divination with cards) though.
