This thread will be used for any questions and answers about how any of the herbs we are using are grown.
Shatril has asked about the Rowan Tree and Bay and how easy they are to grow, so here goes.......

Bay Laurel
Bay is a small evergreen tree which doesn't tend to grow much bogger than 20 feet. It prefers warmer climates and can often be found in The States.#
The tree is well known for being extremly difficult propargate.
the seeds can sometimes go moldy and cuttings quite often don't take route and if they do it can take up to six months. I would recommend buying a small sapling from a garden centre.
Bay trees cannot survive through cold weather especially frost/snow.
But they can do extremly well as indoor plants growing up to 6 feet.
Do not take potted Bays outside until all signs of frost has cleared.
They do well in moderetly rich and well drained soil and they also like alot of sunshine and warmth.

Rowan Tree

Rowan trees are small in size compared to other trees and tend to grow up to about 30 feet.
Rowan will grow almost anywhere and will tolerate poor soil and weather conditions.
It does need plenty of light and air and tends to flourish in high altitude places such as the Scotland, where it has been known to grow as high as 2,500 feet.
Pretty high for a small tree!!

Good question. I have seeds germinating now and Im going to give Toria the cat nip since it is one of the less important.

I could use some plants that grow with little space and in the shade???

Thing s Like Mints enjoy hte shade and are easy to grow.
Mints are best in pots as they tend to spread like wild fire!!
They grow more or less in any conditon and soil types! Great if you haven't got much time to care for them.
Rosemary also does ok in shaded areas and has beautiful blue flowers, very pretty.
You could also try Bay, Tarragon and Yarrow.
Aloe is also another very easy one! It does prefer the sun but will grow well in the shade as well.
You could also tery growing root vegetables like onion and Garlic as they not only provide you with avegetable but also some nice flowers to!
I hope this helps!!
Have fun with the gardening!!

IF ANYONE ELSE HAS ANY PARTICULAR PLANTS THAT THEY WOULD LIKE ME TO COVER EITHER HERE OR IN THE LESSONS LET ME KNOW!!!
SPRING IS HERE YAY!!!

Is it true that you can put a clove of garlic near your herbs and it will keep the bugs off . Something loves my cat nip !

I've heard of it as well a though I've never tried it.
I know that some people actually make a spray out of garlic and onion and use it that way. But i don't think i would want garlicy smelling plants!!
If you do decide to try it let me know if it works!!

Right now out there I have Lemon Balm, bamboo thingy, 2 sages, rosemary, lavender, spearamint, ivy, and something the bird doo doo dropped into any empty pot that is huge. I am regrowing my impatience that the frost killed and sprouting the chinese lanterns, cat nip, and gourds. I really really hope the gourds manage on my balcony. Thanks for the tips Im going to have to get more seeds

Probably the neighborhood cats. My cat lays in the stuff and even eats it. It doesn't really hurt it though. The more of that you harvest the more there is it seems.

I was wondering if anyone had a special way to harvest tree branches, and if there was any special way or ritual that you use when pruning plants you will be using for ritual. The pruning is to keep them healthy I know, but I'm wondering if there is some special way to do this.

I know there are certain ways for certain trees, like the Elder. I'll have a check and see.
Be interesting to find out.
