I live in Columbia, SC, and have been a Wiccan for 11 years. I am an Earth Witch/Green Witch and went back to being a vegetarian 5 years ago, lost 40 pounds, and also gave up sugar and dairy. And I am a gardener with 3 flower gardens in my yard and a container garden in my office window (large window with very wide sills) where I grow fresh spinach 365 days a year. I have been involved in feral cat rescue for almost 30 years and currently have 4 housecats (all tamed ferals) and a feral colony of 8 cats I care for. There were 21 cats in this colony over a year ago, but I slowly got them all spayed and neutered and have been finding homes for them. No surprise my Patron Goddess is Bast, the Egyptian cat goddess!

I am a writer by profession and run a publishing company called Kittyfeather Press that publishes my series of Occult novels for women. Each novel in the series weaves an entertaining story, as well as including useful information about feral cat rescue, how to shrink uterine fibroids naturally, herbal remedies, surviving perimenopause, and more. Each chapter also contains a spell, chant, or ritual that works. It is important to me, as a Witch, that there should be novels in the marketplace portraying contemporary Pagans as we really are in everyday life. That means the characters in my novels face the same problems as anyone else (marriage difficulties, divorce, financial challenges, illness, self-esteem issues, etc). But because they are Witches, they use magick to solve their problems, making these books great fun to read, whether you are Pagan or not.

I also write Pagan articles for magazines across the web. I have been married for 28 years and live in a house next to a state forest, which is where my feral colony lives.

Oh, this is funny! After I went back to being a vegetarian I was sitting on the sofa one day, and I suddenly realized all the leather purses I loved were the hides of dead animals. Don't ask me why this NEVER occurred to me before, but it didn't. But when it did it was as if I had been struck by lightning. So I boxed up all my leather purses and shipped them to women's shelters across the country and now never wear anything with leather on it, not even a small amount. It has opened up an entirely new fashion world for me, and I love it. :)

I think that is it. I am happy to be a member of this group!

Welcome to MW, Laura. I'm quite interested in Green Witchery myself, although I'm very new to the path. I hope you enjoy browsing the forums, and be sure to take a look at the "Kitchen, Green, and Hedge Witch" forums in the "Paths" section of the site. I really hope you enjoy your time here at MW. :)

Hello, and welcome. Your books sound interesting. It is good that you have the resources to help the feral kitties. My two are rescue cats as well, and are spayed, spoiled and generally run the place.
Many blessings

That's quite the resume, and don't worry about the purse thing, a good friend of mine had the exact realization and proceeded to give all her leather objects to charity. Welcome to MW:wave:

Thanks for the warm welcome! And congratulations on your article publication. I know Selena's "Circle Magazine" very well. I have advertised in it for the last year or two, and think I have an ad in the Spring 2007 issue...look in the classified ads for my publishing company Kittyfeather Press. I'm pretty sure I was in that issue, but I can't remember...I do a lot of advertising in many of Pagan magazines and not in every issue of each magazine, so it is easy to forget unless I look it up in my advertising file. Anyway, excellent articles in Circle Magazine, so it's quite an honor for the editor to select yours. Again, congratulations, and I wish you many more publication credits this year!! :)

Your story about leather was interesting, but I wonder why its avoidance. The wearing of leather has certainly always been completely permitted in Traditional Witchcraft. So I gather it is either Wicca, the Egyptian religion, or vegetarianism that forbids or encourages the avoidance of leather? I wonder if you may comment.
