Meditate like mad, and severe harsh training. To defy gravity is not the easiest process.

I can't make things levitate but I can push things without touching them. I started with hanging my necklace on the inside of my altar focussing for it to move back and forth and from there it became pushing objects on tables. I haven't gotten any further than that but for me this is enough. I do have a lot of fun with it when we have friends over and you see there confused looks when theeir glass moves away from them!

Ok..i've just got to say this.
In our day and age, of Remote Controls, Microwave ovens, Meals that cook in a minute, "The Clapper", Cars, Airplanes, Escalators, Elevators, why on Earth do we need the power to levitate? Aren't our lives easy enough? I mean..if it's gotten to such a point, that I don't want to get out of my chair to get a drink out of the fridge, but would rather "focus" and "levitate" the drink..well..i'd say that would be pretty sad.
And how often in life would we encounter a situation where we'd have to levitate something, other than either to show off, or from laziness? I'm not a TV witch fighting battles with my trusty wand. Not likely I'll be put in a "energy binding ring" where I'd have to focus my thoughts to chuck a knife at the person binding me. So..what's the use? Just something I've never really understood. As far as I'm concerned. Light as a feather, stiff as a board, is a great party game, but that's about it.
Unless you're doing it just as a way to discipline yourself, and learn to focus your thoughts, i've never really seen the use of things like this :)

It's not something you're 'taught', as far as I know.
As Mist said you meditate and train yourself. Basically if you know how to meditate in short meditate and will the object to levitate. Do it for several hours a day.
For most people this takes years, if they succeed at all.

I'm just wondering Danustouch, why do things need to be usefull, as far as I'm concerned its fun and for me a good way to relax and enjoy myself. not because I want to focus my thoughts but because its something I enjoy doing. Its like I'm learning Irish at the moment I won't ever need it but its fun! I don't think it was ever mentioned that it was to make our lives easier!

I can not levitate physical objects. I can on occaision turn the light switch on, or light candles from across the room. I have actively followed the path for a lot of years. I have seen people levitate objects, but never anyone I considered to be a witch. As has been said the sheer will, meditation and concentration needed to do this is usually beyond what most have the time to take. I'm just thankful I can fly outside my body. But I still have to open my own cupboards. If you truly seek the power to levitate, then you must be willing to donate anywhere from the next 3-5 years on research, study and intense meditation and focusing everything within you towards that. It is not something that can really be taught.
my 2 cents from the peanut gallery!

Well I'm not Danus but I'm going to give my opinion anyway. It's because magic isn't for "fun." It's serious business and anyone who doesn't realize that shouldn't be using it. Magic should be deliberate and purposeful. To use it otherwise is irresponsible.
You can't do as much damage with the Irish language as you can magic -- as far as I know.

Mithrea, you took the words right out of my mouth.
Silver...the reason I believe using magick for "fun" is not wise, is because it is a waste of energy. Whether you believe the energy you draw from is from the Earth, from the Devine, or from your own personal power (or a mix of all three), the energy you are taking, COMES from somewhere. Therefore, it shouldn't be wasted on "fun" and ...extraneous pursuits. Magick is for when you have a need, or a great desire. Not amusement. You are drawing from forces which are serious, and powerful. Thus, your use of them should be reverent, and serious. Not saying theres not time for laughter in magick. Laughter is another part of life. However, that doesn't mean you use it for amusement. It could have serious outcomes that you aren't quite aware of at the time.

Maybe I just see this diffrent because the energie comes from me I dont draw it from something or someone else. Because of that I don't hurt or damage anyone else. I don't ask for energie or help so that I can do this. Please tell me if this is wrong thinking because I don't see the harm?

Well, even if you are using energy which comes directly "from" you, think of it this way....your energy is not a limitless supply. You've got to replenish it, when you spend it. How do you replenish your energy? And what would happen if you were so busy using your energy for levitation, and you suddenly realized you needed that energy for something really important? Just seems like a waste to me. Besides that..imo, magick is a gift that we are given. To take it lightly, and use it for "fun" is kind of like biting the hand that feeds you. When you were a kid, did you have a doll collection? Or a collection of things that were for decorative/collection value, but not to "Play" with? If you did, and suddenly started taking them down off the shelf to play with them in the sandbox, and ruined them in the process, you decreased the value of the dolls. Magick is like that to me. It's an important gift we are given. It is like prayer. It is sacred. To use it for "play" deminishes the value of it. That's just my opinion, though :)

Why would you think your own energy can't harm other people? If you can direct energy, you can do MAJOR damage with it no matter where it comes from.

I have had impulses to do something like that, in my more cynical moods. But I have refrained. You see, I believe that every human holds a life essence and the energy work you do is that essence. It needs to last your whole lifetime, it is meant to, so by using it in that fashion it will only eventually burn you out and could completely hinder energy work you do from then on.
And a side note, Energy goes where it's directed and where it's not directed. To me, since many things in the universe are chaotic and looking for balance. Then energy used directly from there or any where else will do it's duty and then could unintentionally harm another. Including yourself.

I did'nt mean that because my energie comes from me it does'nt hurt someone. I don't direct my energie on someone and it comes from me I don't send it out to hurt someone so therefore I don't do damage to anyone else thats what I meant.

From my study I have found that "levitation" is a mental exercise and not a physical one. As a stage magician I do a couple levitations, but they is only illusion (one of my levitation illusions will be featured next week (July 19, 2002) on Finnish television, and a photo of me "in flight" can be found in the members pictures thread). The "real" levitations that I have studied are mental in nature, happening in trancework and separate from the physical body.
