My mom's mother, 77 next week if she makes it that long, has probably less than a month left to live. It was a sudden diagnosis of a tear in her aorta, that has actually - amazingly - probably been there since late January. She's been having chest pains since then, and every time, she's been sent home, diagnosed with something else, etc. etc. Just a couple weeks ago she had her gallbladder removed because they thought THAT was the problem, but last week, it was determined that she has a two inch tear in her aorta, and two aneurysms right there next to it. Most people with a tear in the aorta don't last a day, and it's a miracle she's lived this long. She is one tough bird, I'll say.
But she's not a good candidate for surgery - too unhealthy as a whole - so... she's at home now, just waiting. She's doped up pretty heavily on painkillers and is a bit loopy. Sometimes she seems to know what's going on, sometimes she... forgets things, and misunderstands.
I'm upset. My mother's /deeply/ upset. We're both very close to her, and this is... very difficult for everyone. The whole family is rushing to see her, and we don't know how long she's got. The doctor estimates less than a month. It could happen at any time. Tonight. Next week. Three weeks from now. Impossible to know. We hope it happens quickly... but we're, of course, hoping she's got a bit more time left.
I don't know what to do for anyone - what /can/ you do? Could use a little positive energy, especially for my mother and grandmother.

I am so sorry. This must be immensely difficult (and that's putting it mildly) for all of you to be going through. Your grandmother, family and you will be in my thoughts and prayers. :hugz: :hugz: :hugz:

A little over a month ago the docs sent my mom home to die.. she has cancer, developed a blood clot and they almost killed her in the hosp. once by letting her drop to a diabetic coma, the other by overdosing her on pain meds.. she's still here and we are greatful for every day.. now the tumor is growing into her jugular, esophagus, and windpipe, they are starting radiation mon. to try to shrink but they are only giving her weeks to months to begin with so.... the best I can say that the more time you are given you are blessed with the ability to come to a comfortable place with the reality of the walk that person is about to take.. while being sad at the prospect you have been given the time to care for, love without reserve and say so much in a short time.. you have all been given a blessing that many never get in this life.. live, laugh and love just like they say.. also always remember (at least this is what I believe) that this is the path that your souls chose to walk together before you ever came to this world.. the body aside, your souls chose this for each of you for a reason.. I find IMMENSE COMFORT when I am able to step outside myself and my pain and remember this..
blessings and immense love sent your way

I am so sorry. I have been down a road similar to yours so I have an idea of what you are going through. I know that words provide little comfort but just remember all the years of love that you have shared. Never forget that you are there for her in her hour of need and that is one of the greatest acts of love there is.
Sending energy and blessings to you and your family,
Carl

:hugz: and Strength for all of you. Just know that this is only the beginning of a new existence for her. You are the ones that will have to live without her for a short while.
Love to all of you!
