G'Day!

I really need to ask this question to people who know about stones and such......

Yesterday I was at a thrift store when I spotted this large-shiny black stone. I picked it up and it sort of tingled in my hand, so I bought it. I don't know what kind it is, but it is very shiny, black, sharp edges like glass, and it has a section of blood red/brown specks on one part of it......
Can anyone tell me what type of stone this might be?:)

It sounds like obsidian to me. Does it look anything like this?

yep sounds like obsidian to me too:D

Obsidian is the result of volcanic lava coming in contact with water. Often the lava pours into a lake or ocean and is cooled quickly. This process produces a glassy texture in the resulting rock. Iron and magnesium give the obsidian a dark green to black color. http://mineral.galleries.com/minerals/Mineralo/OBSIDIAN/OBSIDIAN.htm

That was my first impression, too. :) Obsidian is also good for protection, grounding, divination, peace, and especially reflection--whether reflection of energies, or the reflection you might do within your own mind.
