View Full Version : Would it be ethical....

Okay...most of you have heard my horror stories about my obnoxious neighbors.
In addition to their driving through our yard, they have also taken to building a huge bonfire in their backyard, which, is fine. Only problem is, where are they finding the wood? Answer: From the brush pile we collected to block off the entry ways to our yard..AND from the woods. Looks like they are starting to run out of big logs to use, I saw them today, pulling up some saplings.
These woods are directly behind OUR house...which is three yards down from their house. I really don't want them messing around back there, but I'm not sure who owns the deed. I was wondering if it would be ethical to somehow put a protection charm over the woods..kind of set up a ward or something, over those woods...so that these rude people will not continue to tear up the tree saplings and such.
Would that be an ethical thing to do?

Hmm .. I think So. I would try to make the intent more for the woods to be protected than keeping your neighbors from pulling up trees.

I agree. I have done it where I live because people keep driving up here at night and dumping their old tires in the woods around my house. I swear, I have read some of your other posts about these people and even though I am extremely tolerant, I have to say they sound like monsters. I sympathize with you for that. I've been there.
I think it would only be unethical if you named or thought of them specifically when you worked your charm. Try and keep the protection of the forest from all harm as the main goal. Although, I know that will be hard!
Of course, I would suggest finding out who does own that land. They might feel the way you do and do something to stop it. I don't suppose perhaps they are breaking any burning ordinances? We have them here and I am always calling the county police because people burn right in the middle of the woods during droughts. I would look into it if I were in your situation.
Good Luck! :)

Well..i was thinking of checking into that. I know that they had the fire department come out and supervise the digging of their fire pit. But we've been on "No Fire Permits Issued" status in this town for about a week, and they've been having their fires anyway....

I would say go for it! While you're at it, add in a bit that anyone entering these woods with bad intention will feel uneasy. :D Maybe a sense that the trees are displeased with them.

I would say it's fine, because you're not harming them at all, they can get wood from somewhere else, they don't have to pullup the saplings! I agree that you shouldn't directly focus your energy on the people, just on the woods in general. It's just sort of a 'restraining order'...with good intentions as well, it's not like you're doing it just because you want the wood for yourself or anything. Remember 'an it harm none do what you will...' :D

I'd say go for it... & if they're burning when there's a burn ban, TURN THEM IN! The next thing that might be burnin' could be your home... :flamer:

What about some of the rune magic from Rick's rune magick threads?

You can cut protective Runes onto wooden stakes, & drive the stakes into the ground. As Wildchild sez, check out Practical Rune Macic... should be something there you can use, or that will give you some ideas.
