3 of my goats have what seems to be colds.
We had that nasty snow storm and cold after a month of 50-60 degree weather. Now 3 goats are sick, mild, but sick none the less.

I haven't been able to decide if I should treat them with meds yet or not. I have asked my goat support network for advice.

But while I wait for that advice it just frustrating and upsetting when any critter isn't feeling well. They cant tell us whats all wrong. They cant say they have a headache or aches and pains. They cant even say mom, I have a sore throat!!

I feel so bad when critters are sick. I wish I could look inside their minds and hear everything they would like to tell me so I can better understand how they feel and be more helpful. :(
At least the cold weather is over. We are back in the 50-60's!! :)

Thanks Catiana. I just hope they caught a run of the mill cold. Its happens sometimes. I just wish I knew for sure instead of hope.
Maybe I worry to much but I cant help it. Especially with losing baby goaty Shilo so recently.

:hugz: you have every reason to worry. They are your babies! It's like worrying for a baby when it is sick!

I'd say keep an eye on them for a day or so, if they seem the same or worse, then I'd treat them.

:hugz: I hope they recover quick happily!

They have been sick for almost a week, but no fevers or colored snot. A week isn't long for a goat.
It could be allergies or a cold. Our mold count is most likely through the roof right now with all the rain, snow, and we are just saturated here. everything is damp. The warm up we have now I would imagine is making a heaven for molds.

I hate giving them shots if I don't have to, especially for viruses that wouldnt be affected by the meds or allergies that also wont be affected.
And the shots hurt. Its either one shot of LA200, which stings and burns like heck, or a shot of PennG but that would be everyday for 5 days. Shots are the only way you can give a goat antibiotics.

So as long as they don't run fevers or get worse, I am just watching closely and treating them with a little vicks vapor rub to make their symptoms less predominate.

But I cant help the worry and feeling bad I cant make them feel all good. :(

Heck my children can say, mom give me a extra pillow. I'm not comfy. But my goats cant tell me if they want extra bed straw or anything. :(

Thanks POS. :)

:hugz: I know just how you feel about them not being able to say, "look here's where it hurts" It makes for more worries. Given the fact some animals have a very high pain tolerance before it shows makes it worse.

I hope your goats just have a little cold and get well on there own soon! The fact there is no high tempeture is a great sign!

Good news, everyone is getting better. Its warmed up nicely here and its drying out too!!
So with the better weather, the critters are doing better too.
Whatever it was, it most likely was a virus that finally ran its course and no one developed a secondary infection. :)

Thanks everyone. :)
