Hercules: The World's Biggest Dog Ever According to Guinness World
Records

Hercules was recently awarded the honorable distinction of Worlds
Biggest Dog by Guinness World Records. Hercules is an English Mastiff
and has a 38 inch neck and weighs 282 pounds.
With "paws the size of softballs" (reports the Boston Herald), the
three-year-old monster is far larger and heavier than his breed's
standard 200lb. limit. Hercules owner Mr. Flynn says that Hercules
weight is natural and not induced by a bizarre diet: "I fed him normal food and he just grew and grew, and grew, and grew.

Looks like Lady Canine is right. I first checked the Guiness World Records website and they don't have a record for the world's heaviest dog listed. However, they have one for the world's tallest dog:

So next I went to www.snopes.com (http://www.snopes.com) and found that the story is true in that Hercules is the largest dog on record, but that the dog in the picture is not an English Mastiff, it's a Neopolitan Mastiff, and that the one in the picture was inserted digitally. Adult Neo Mastiffs generally wouldn't reach above the guy's waist.

I hadn't heard of Gibson the world's tallest dog. In the photo he looks really tall but I wish they'd shown him standing next to a person. My 5-year old granddaughter is 41 inches tall. We used to have a Weimaraner that was at least 36 inches tall, very easy for her to reach things on the kitchen counter without getting up on her hind legs.
