personally, i don't think it's blatantly wiccan or even pagan, but nonetheless it is a beautiful song. i am a terrible singer but when my baby is born i know i'll be singing this song to my little one. it's such a beautiful and calming song.
(okay, this could be the pregnancy hormones talking, but this song made me cry when i first heard it :bigredblu )

do you sing lullabies to your babies?
what songs could you recommend for babies or very young children?
some of my best childhood memories are of me and my mom sitting in the living room singing silly child songs (like little bunny foo foo) over and over again (oh geez i'm going to start crying again)...

My child will grow on Cradle of Filth, Marilyn Manson, Ministry, Pantera, Slip Knot and other various forms of Heavy, Black and Gothic Metal.
And probably some Classical music too.
And Madonna...
Ahem.
The baby's first concert was at around 12 weeks into the pregnancy, I believe, when my husband and I went to a Cradle of Filth concert.
You probably were not looking for this answer, when you posted this thread, LOL, but my hubby and I hope our little demon will fancy our music style... So we are teaching him/her from the wound to be familiar with it :D

Awww, very sweet! I'm always looking for alternative to the standard rock-a-bye-baby. I personally used to sing the song from Dumbo to my kids. And I really like James Taylors "Sweet Baby James" (that is my son's name).

Everytine I suggest singing to my husband he won't believe that it doesn't matter how offkey we are or if we sing nonsense, the baby likes it anyway. Thank you for sharing this, it will be nice not to just make up nonsense as I go so much :D
Pretty cool that its Inkubus Sukkubus :) Heres the written lyrics http://www.lyricsdownload.com/inkubus-sukkubus-wiccan-lullaby-lyrics.html

Good plan! I noticed that my boys both like our styles of music. Though they love ALL kinds of music (thanks in part to me!), Aiden's favorite by far is Bob Marley. He's all like "Hey Dad! Pop in some Bob!" He even used to have the cutest little baby Rasta hat to wear! :wah: He's getting so big!
Finn seems to like classical music very much though, and we joke that his instant happy music is Loreena McKennitt. Seriously, he'll be screaming like a banshee and I pop in the Loreena and he's instantly happy again.
But yeah. I remember hearing this lullaby years ago and it made me get all weepy and stuff. It doesn't take much these days to get me all wistful and sappy. Motherhood really does that. Heck, I start bawling during the opening sequence to the original Lilo and Stitch movie.

Nope, it's a pretty song, but it's certainly not Wiccan. That's quite a reach, and it doesn't quite make it. Heaven (and hell) are a completely different religion.

Yes, with both of my children I picked out a 'special' song that I sang to them, starting in utero. For one, it was the 'Tender Shepherd' song from Peter Pan and for the other I droned a melody to a poem my father taught me:
Sleep, Baby (although I used his name once he had one), sleep
The big stars are the sheep
The little ones are the lambs, I guess,
And the Big Round Moon is the Shepherdess;
Sleep, Baby, sleep.
After I sang them their special songs, I would stand in the hallway between their 2 rooms and sing:
Good-Night Matthew,
Good-Night David,
Good-Night Both-Boys--
I'll see you in the morning.
We also sang a different version of 'This Old Man' (usually while in the car) that I made up because i didn't like the rhyme-ssheme of the original.

I made one up for my granddaughter when she was 2 or 3, I'd about forgotten that one.
Good night.
Sleep tight.
Don't let the bedbugs bite.
Tomorrow
I will see you
In the morning.
We'd take turns singing it to each other till she got sleepy.

It's certainly not wiccan, but both my kids loved to hear the Winnie the Pooh song. :hahugh:

I sing "You are my Sunshine" to my boys... only I change it a bit...
"You are my Aiden, my only Aiden!
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you!
So please don't take my Aiden away..."
Same thing for Finn, only it's "You are my Finley, my only Finley..."
They LOVE it!
We also give neenas at night, too. Neenas are eskimo kisses (rubbing noses), and my dad used to do that after storytime every night when I was a little girl. And so I do it with my boys. They also love it. I think it's Swedish, but I'm not sure. My heritage is primarily Swedish, so it might be.

Victoria and I sing everything from the Circle Round CD. She loves it. But when she was very small we started this one:
I see the Moon
The Moon sees Me
Goddess Bless the Moon
And Goddess Bless ME
And then once she got old enough she could pick something and I would replace moon with whatever. Most of the time we would do this in the car so she would name whatever she saw out the window. It would occupy her for hours while driving LMAO

Its funny how you develop those little rituals with your kids. Every night my son says:
"Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite. But if they do...SQUEEEEEEEEZE them tight, so they won't bite you tomorrow night." When he says SQUEEZE he proceeds to literally try to squeeze the life out of me, lol!
My daughter and I have this little kiss routine where we do the eskimo kiss, the butterfly kiss and then a kiss on each cheek and the forehead.
I don't even know how these things get started, they just seem to one day be a part of your life. Hopefully they will be a nice memory one day when I'm old.

This isn't new (not even by a LONG stretch) but it is one of my favorites...
Hush Little Witch
Hush little baby don't you squall
Momma's gonna buy you a crystal ball
And if you still can't see beyond
Momma's gonna buy you a magic wand
And if that wand don't change your fate
Momma's gonna teach you to levitate
And if the astral makes you sick
Momma's gonna buy you an incense stick
And if that frankincense smells rank
Mom'll buy a sensory deprivation tank
And if that tank don't float your bones
Momma's gonna buy you some some precious stones
And if those gems don't ease your heart
Momma's gonna buy you a natal chart
And if your planets go berserk
Momma's gonna buy you some bodywork
And if your aura still needs kneading
Momma's gonna buy you a past life reading
And if your destiny stays hid
Momma's gonna buy you a pyramid
And if your chakras still feel stressed
Momma's gonna take you on a vision quest
And if power animals don't come to charm ya
Sorry, kid, it's just your karma!

I read this one in, The Pagan Man by Isaac Bonewits, and I thought that it was very cute :
Papa's Gonna Conjure
Hush little darling don't say a word
Papa's gonna conjure a phoenix bird
and if that bird won't resurrect
Papa's gonna conjure and ancient sect
and if that sect it will not chant
Papa's gonna conjure an Oliphant
and if that Oliphant won't trumpet
Papa's gonna conjure a pretty little strumpet
and if that strumpet she won't dance
Papa's gonna conjure a prince to prance
and if that he should fall down,
You'll still be the best little baby in town.
I just thought that it was pretty funny actually. His website is here:http://www.neopagan.net/
