A freind of mine found a puppy in her yard a few days ago. She took her to the vet and it is estimated that this puppy is under 18 weeks. She was going to have her tested for parvo, but the vet said that if she had just contracted it, it wouldn;t show up.

So she took her home and put her in her rabbit barn(She has 4 dogs in the house and didn't want to risk their lives.)

Well she just called and left a message. She is at work and wanted me to look up the symptoms of parvo. She said the puppy is throwing up alot and very sick. I didn't hear her mention diherrea or anything, I'll have to ask her later when she is off work(9 pm!)

DOes this sound alot like parvo? Is there anything else that could cause her to be vomiting like this? I'm curious because I want to find info about different things on the web and send them to her. That way she can compare what they seem like and see whats up.

She'll probably end up taking her to the vet. But she is tight on money.

The puppy is brindal. We are thinking she is either a mutt or one of these: American Staffordshire terrier, American Bull dog, Or pitt.

Please, I need help!

the only way I know to diagnose it without tests is the smell, its absolutely aweful. I haven't seen it since I was a kid, but I remember losing about 15 puppies to it before we closed our kennel down, and to me, it just smells like death.

Yeah I read some of that page earlier today.

I just feel so bad, for both the puppy and her. She really is trying to help!

If she is going to take the pup to the vet, she should act quickly...

The longer she waits, the bleaker the pup's chances. And it's not good odds to begin with.

That pup needs fluids ASAP...

There is a lot that could be causing vomiting, heck even poisoning.
It takes a lot more symptoms than one to even try to guess.
How its poo and pee, color, consistency, order.
Any fever?
Gums pale?
Eyes clear?
Lungs clear?
Nose clear?
Is it alert or not quite here?
Does it show signs of pain anywhere?
Is its stomach distended at all?
I wish I could help but there isnt nearly enough info to guess at anything.

Oh and I almost forgot, to add to the above: what kind of vomiting...Amount, frequency, color, constancy, etc.

One of my dogs caught a mild strain of parvo when he was about half-grown, he lived but I had to hospitalise him so they could hydrate him on an IV. I didn't have money either. I made a bank overdraft to give the vet a partial payment and I paid the rest later.( Most vets will work with you if you can come up with part of the money.) But the dog lived.

I remember him throwing up bubbly yellow bile stuff. I don't remember any particularly strong smell.

I do know he couldn't take anything in his stomach AT ALL. Even water or Pedialyte in tiny amounts caused him horrible pain.

Get the puppy to a vet. Now.

Well I have good news!

We found out that the reason she was sick was because she not used to eating dog food. My friend fed her chicken breast for a few days and then slowley transitioned to puppy food. She is happy!

When she first had her for a few days she was very submissive and scared of people, she's getting better.
