I have a pet which I love, but I been thinking about getting another pet. I was thinking either a dog or a rabbit. which type or breed should I go for.

Well, personally, I love my poodles! I was always a cat person - I never liked dogs - I thought they smelled bad and they kinda scared me. Then I saw my Teddy Bear and just fell in love. He is amazing. He's a miniature poodle (weighs about 11 lbs.) I am probably the worst dog owner because I didn't know what I was doing so I didn't train him at all. But despite that - he is totally potty trained, he does tricks, he comes when I call him - he listens perfectly! He'll even get in his kennel when I tell him, and I didn't even kennel train him! The best part is he doesn't shed and he really doesn't stink unless he goes outside and gets really dirty. He's is an amazing dog. I just got another one about a week ago - I'll let you know if I'm as impressed with him!

Well first of all what is your present pet, and you should match a pet to your lifestyle and taste and not to another's opinion.

One person might like a sheltie, but if your the very laid back type and live in a place where the dog wont be getting a lot of exercise, a sheltie probably wouldn't be good for you.

If your an active person, a breed that likes a calm life may not be right.

Same thing with a rabbit, do you have room for a big hutch, small hutch? Want something that needs grooming or is carefree?

Also you have to look at your present pet and choose what would be a good match for it too. If your present pet is a hunting dog that hunts or a cat that eats the wild rabbits outside, you may not want a rabbit.

If you have a dog that been alone a long time or its a breed that has tenancies toward not being good with other dogs, you have to take that into consideration too.

Getting a pet should be researched before picking anything. A rabbit could live 8, maybe 10 years depending on the breed. A dog, heck 15 maybe more. You have to really know what you want and what fits you, your lifestyle. Its a commitment and one that should be taken very seriously.

Research possible pet ideas.
Dog or rabbit, both are so different, at least narrow down to a species first.

Oh and health...can you afford all the vet cost for any pet you get?
A dog would need shots and licensing. A rabbit, if it turned out to be male, it may need to be neutered if it takes up spraying. A rabbit may need teeth or nail trimming.
You have to really think everything through.

Thats my 2 cents. I hope you figure out everything before you bring home a new living critter.
