View Full Version : Blending Witchcraft with Christianity

April 21st, 2007, 11:18 PM
Hi everyone. I am kind of new here and I am trying to figure out how to blend the two. I was just curious as to how everyone here goes about doing that. I am currently trying to blend them but not quite sure as to how I should do this.

I'm not a Christian witch but I'll still try and help, but what witchcraft are you talking about - Wiccan-style (i.e. religious witchcraft) or basically the magical kind (where it's purely about magic, no religious concepts matter).

If it's Wicca, then you could probably just worship Mary as the goddess, Jesus as the god (mother/son, etc), and perhaps God as something along the lines of "the one/all" that some Wiccans believe in?.

If it's purely magical witchcraft (where you can be religious or not), then you can simply just practice magic and still remain being Christian.

Also, you may want to try and get:

'Ancient Christian magic' by Marvin W. Meyer and Richard Smith (http://www.amazon.com/Ancient-Christian-Magic-Marvin-Meyer/dp/0691004587), I haven't read it, but it proves the early Christians did practice magic (it's on my wish list, as I'd love to read it).

'God Spells: Written Spells, Spoken Spells and Spell Enchancers' by William Alexander Oribello (http://www.amazon.com/God-Spells-Written-Spoken-Enchancers/dp/0938294490/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b/102-0143574-6328902) - I just saw this book on amazon.com, it seems cool, I may have to add it my list!.

Christian magic (http://www.iit.edu/~phillips/personal/lore/chrismag.html) - not sure how useful it is, I just found it.

I'd also look into Ceremonial magic too, as that has largely, a Christian (and also Jewish) perspective.

You can download some Ceremonianal magic books from here: http://athenaeum.asiya.org/ and also from Sacred-Texts (http://www.sacred-texts.com/index.htm), particularly the Grimoires section (http://www.sacred-texts.com/grim/index.htm)

You may also want to look into Catholic folk magical practices, such as Saint magic, etc.

Some good sites on this are:

Rues Kitchen (http://www.rueskitchen.com/index.php/weblog1/entry/italian_benedicaria/)

Stregoneria Italiana (http://stregoneriaitaliana.com/), particularly these articles on Saint magic: http://stregoneriaitaliana.com/stregoneria_italiana-000423.htm and http://stregoneriaitaliana.com/stregoneria_italiana-000424.htm.

Benedicaria: Magical Catholicism by Vito Quattrocchi (http://books.lulu.com/content/155703)

'Benedicaria: Novena to the Saints' by Vito Quattrocchi (http://www.lulu.com/content/157855)

Benedicaria (http://benedicaria.8m.com/) (which doesn't seem to be working right now), but here's the catched version (

You may also want to look into Hoodoo practices, Luckymojo is probably the best site and has loads of information, but this article may be of interest:

Hope this is of some use, and I'm sure there'll be others who can help, as there are quite a few Christian witches and Christian Wiccans on this forum.

Wow. Thank you very much David. I never knew that there was so much information out there or even books about it. I will definately be checking out everything you posted.

As for the type of witchcraft...thats still up in the air. Not sure yet whether I want to do the religious witchcraft or just the magikal kind.

Again...thank you for all of the information.

wow what a wealth of information!

Personally, I started off by doing research on witchcraft in general. I began doing rituals and spells, and instead of making my offering to many gods, it was made to ONE God. I don't do the wiccan thing.. I dont pray to saints or Mary, as i never have, even when growing up catholic. I believe there is only ONE God, but that God is the God AND Goddess.. because God is beyond gender, etc. Make sense? Of course thats not what YOU have to believe, I'm just sharing my belief system with you as an example ;)

I just want to wish you luck... being a Christian Witch is very difficult, as we lose support and respect from both Christians and Pagans alike... its difficult to have to keep it from loved ones, because very few understand our path. But keep in mind, NO ONE needs to understand your path except YOU! Its YOUR path, no one elses, so don't lose hope and faith because of the difficulties you may face! I sincerely hope you don't have to go through what I have gone through, and you don't have to become alienated from family and friends because of your path :)
