so today im talking to my sister. she lives in nebraska, and works for a minimun security prison (or rather work ethics camp) just for background info.
she asks me where im at and i tell her that im at a local spiritualists shop that my friend works at. she says oooooo i have to tell you what happend the other day.
ok, she says that some one was asking about my religon, apparently she had a conversation with one of her co workers that she was trying to convince me not to wear my pentacle to the local walmart, so he was asking her at this current time of the conversation if i had bought any new ones (why i have no clue) so another co worker walks in on the conversation and says, what religon is your sister asatru or somthing, she said i was not asatru but wiccan (aparently asatru is a common religon in the prison system where she works at)
the guy said why would she wear a pentacle, wiccans dont wear pentacles, they dont worship the devil. (at least he got something partly right)
apparently both my sister and the other co worker had a good laugh about this. as did i.

~chuckles~
funny stuff!
Im not Wiccan [obviously]- but I do own a Pentacle and a Pentagram selection, and Ive been kicked out of so many shops because people are ignorant!! It makes me laugh, 'cos I just think ; ''oh well, i'll take me custom elsewhere!''
So many associate these symbols with negative or with Devil worship.
Education, Education, Education. But hell, I give up trying to explain, what's the point?! People will believe whatever they want to, mostly-regardless of the facts.
It can get highly irritating keep explaining, to stubborn pig-headed-gullible people!!
Anyway, thanks for sharing this.:)

i agree it can get fursterating, part of me wants to go out to the work ethics camp and have alittle class. im big on education as well.
who knows maybe next time im out there i might go out and do that, one of the things my coven wants to do is go to the prisons and do spiritual counseling for people who are pagan, or do not want christian counsel. i do plan on getting ordained (we have a place out here who ordains pagan cleargy.)
if i have that when i go out there next time i might offer my services.

Wow...
I've never been kicked out from anywhere because of a pentacle. I don't consider myself Wiccan anymore, and I've not worn a pentacle in awhile, but all the same, I wouldn't hesitate to where one.

i havent been kicked out of anywhere either, although i have probably lost some jobs. (they all said personality conflicts)
i currently do not wear mine, due to work, i know at this place i have nothing to fear wearing it, but i do work with customers and they might take issue with it if they see me comming if they are the type to think that pentacles = devil worship. so i just dont bother, i wear a triquerta instead.
thanks, i hope i make a difference, the group that i help orginize trys real hard to educate the public, unfortunatly i did loose one of my jobs cause of it cause my name got in the paper, i was fired a few days later.
i hate haveing to feel that i can not use my name, i am proud of who i am, and i am open about being a witch. although its not something i bring up, unless asked.

I've been kicked out of a few places because of a pentacle, mainly Christian bookstores I was at with my mother. Others were strong Christian owned businesses that believe having anyone other than Christian shop there is not good for business. I don't argue with them, just figure if they don't want my money then they won't get it.
Whenever I wear a pentagram, most people just kinda look at me and and then look away. I think it has something to do with all the black I wear :) . I have friends who work at the occult shop here, so whenever I come in with it on they just laugh and ask when the next good goth rock concert is.

I wear a pentagram with a few other celtic pendants on the one strand, and I've never had anyone act negatively to it! But I have heard of Australian witches loosing their job because of their religion, but then again I believe its all about how people go about it but that's another argument...
Cute story though, its nice to think there are some people out there who, despite being misinformed, dont consider wiccans (and the like) evil!

yah, i thought that was a nice change too.
my friends mom is the same way, she freaks out if she hears the word pagan, but if she hears witch or wiccan shes ok. she says witches help people and they are not bad but pagans on the other hand ohhhhh man.
my friend was telling me this other story about what happend to her,
her mom was on the phone talking to a friend, and her mom asks if she would go out with a wiggin (my friend is a pagan). so she asks me whats a wiggin. i thought about it and my answer was a few weeks before i had won a book at a beltane festival, it was called wiccan mysteries, she must have thought it said wiggin.
in hind site i think there is another explination i was watching a soccer game, and one of the teams was called the wiggins, her mom is also a huge soccer fan and is also irish she must have gotten them mixed up.
