Simple question, what was your first ritual and why did you do it?

To be honest i have a pretty scattered memory!lol But the first ritual i remember was a Samhain ritual. And that is one of the reasons i am particularly connected with that Sabbat.I did it to celebrate the Sabbat and honour the deities. I cast a circle using leaves and it was very magical!:)

Mine was a Beltain ritual and I can't remember a damn thing. I hadn't even heard of grounding and jumped in feet first like so many a noob. lol.

i've been doing ritual for so long, i can't say i remember the first time... i know that as a young teenager, i started worshipping the ocean after a number of powerful psychedelic experiences. i started anointing myself with water and greeting the sea. i think that is the ritual i have done for the longest time. dipping my hand in water, and passing it over my forehead and the back of my neck.

i started building cairns and other rock structures at about the same time, and that quickly became ritual as well.

i cannot tell you the first time i did it, tho. i was somewhere between 14-15.

I'm pretty sure my first ritual was when I was around 14-15. I did a healing and cleaning ritual to help get a cap on my depression. I can't quite say if it had any results back then, but I bet I felt pretty damn good while doing it.

Mine was just a "getting to know you" ritual with my gods. Nothing too fancy, but I cast a circle and chatted with them.

To be fair, I won't count the half-witted spells I cast in my earliest days... ;)

My first "ritual" was for Imbolc. The entire thing was splendid and, to this day, I still love Imbolc.

Haha. So I'm not the only one that expected orbs of light to flow from my three-hole binder Book of Shadows and give me the power to freeze time? ;)

hahaha Nope!:) I was very inspired by Phoebe to write spells but i guess that was normal compared to me and my best friend concentrating in school and trying to use telekinesis.lol Ah good times!I had actually chanted the power to receive powers as well, and it felt rather magical. And then because i was scared like the little girl i was i had chanted the one that takes them away and i still wonder if that has affected them.

Mine was a dedication ritual, on the beach, at Litha, nearly six years ago.

Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram.

I did that once...but ceremonial magick and I aren't meant for each other. The whole time I was doing the LBRP, I just kept thinking, "Should someone be banging a gong and pouring libations?"

LBRP. I was having some psychological troubles at the time, and a 'friend' convinced me it was 'bad spirits' or some rot like that.

Needless to say, I'm fairly certain today that I hurt a nice kindly spirit that used to hang out near my house. :(

I don't think banishing rituals are usually much warrented. I'm sure there are appropriate situations, but I think the LBRP is overused. Kind of like using a shotgun to scratch an itch.

My first ritual was my dedication ritual to the Danu and Dagdha. I had my craft name and the only book I had read at the time said that was my first step.

I cast a circle to sit in while trying to use the crystal ball my dad had bought me.

Good times.

Wow...that was a long time ago. I must have been 12. I think....

I can't remember my very first time as it was ridiculously long ago, but my first I guess "official" ritual was for my dedication.

My first ritual was Imbolc - of this year, actually. I was alone and a little nervous but it ended up being a beautiful experience. I had written my own Circle-casting ritual which I still use. I should probably edit it because it's pretty wordy. Either that or I just need to buckle down and memorize it, lol!

I vaguely remember it involved lots of alcohol and the suggestion at some point that we try and summon Cthulhu.

I don't think he showed up though. Although my memory is somewhat hazy.

Almost a decade ago I did a dedication ritual. The furthest back I can find journals though is 4 years. Strange to read what I was thinking then and how I didn't realize how wrong some things were. And how young I was, how little I knew, how little I realized about myself. Like they say, it is interesting to see how far you've come and how much you've grown when you go back in this old journals.

My first ritual as a pagan was an exploratory 'dedication'. Nothing binding, just sort of a loose vow to keep my mind open as I explored this new path. I felt stupid and silly all throughout. No surprise - I'd botched it together with long incantations and other silly things, and it was horrible. It was a couple years ago now. I have it written in a notebook: "Note to self: memorize or make it up as you go. This doesn't work."

*laugh*

My first magical working type ritual was a banishment/release spell - as a Christian, no less - when I was 17. I was depressed, having a panic attack, and on a whim, wrote down everything that was upsetting me (it was surprisingly short - I'd thought, in all my crying and distress, that the WORLD was out to get me, but the list was only five or six things long) and then I ripped it into shreds and released it all to God. Instantaneous release. I can feel it even now, just remembering.

My first magic-working ritual as a pagan was for a job. It worked, too. Within days.

Speaking of rituals... Midsummer's coming up, and my first 'big' ritual was a midsummer one, when the house was a hundred degrees, I was half delerious from heat, and still determined to take an hour to appreciate the turning of the wheel. I need to start preparing for this year.

I'm not sure which came first, Baptism or my traditional naming ceremony. I think the naming ceremony came first though. then baptism, then holy communion.

Can’t remember what it was for. I think it was just a gazing. Can’t remember. I do remember that I saw my fiancé’s face in the candle flame about a week before I met him.

Well, when I said I was Wiccan, it was just casting a circle and talking to Artemis. Now as a Christian witch, I do lot of stress baths, and lots of healing teas and stuff. Soon though, I'll be doing a simple 'clean out the nasties' ritual..

A self dedication ritual to Brighid a few years ago on Imbolc. It wasn't disastrous. I've since moved on from such rituals, though.

First 'pagan' one was a clensing/grounding thing.

My first group ritual was last night for summer solstice. I am a Solitary and so don't usually take part in group work but the people I did it with were friends and so I felt comfortable. I enjoyed it, not sure if it will become a regular thing tho.

lol, I found a record... Now, it's possible I went to the Spring Equinox at 2 weeks of age... or to an esbat in the early weeks, but my brother's godfather was journalling the meetings at the Greater Sabbats and wrote this entry:

Beltane, 35 y.w.g., 1983 CE:
Held in Kansas City...
[mom's name] of Pleiades formally presented [my name], her daughter, to the people. So it looks like Beltane of '83 was probably the first for me. ;)

my first ritual was 6-7 years ago, introducing myself to the faith and the possibility of what I had at the time recently discovered, i.e. paganism. went outside at twilight wearing a very long cotton shirt and nothing else (i lived on a big patch of farmland where no one could see me) took a handful of the blackest soil I could find and a bunch of dandelion fluffies (I guess it's not a good thing to start your path with fluffiness? LOL), scattered em around in a circle underneath a tree house I built with my siblings at the age of 9 that had a lot of great memories, and just sort of sat in and meditated as well as my 14 year old scatterbrain possibly could, talking or chanting when the whim came.

...I can not remember.at all. It was one of the many things I did and two days later you could as me what I did and I would say something like "I did something that day?" All I remember is I was like ten and finished watching a charmed marathan..ended up scareing myself half to dath thinking there was someone in the house... thats all I remember.

The effects of the LBRP are primarily intended to be aimed at the self (which is one of the reasons why it's recommended to be performed daily) so I doubt you would have caused actual harm to any spirits nearby (which is not to say that you might have seriously discouraged them...) .

First ritual I had performed on me was Baptism... first Pagan ritual I performed mysefl I am not entirely sure. I know my first spell was a love spell. I think my first non-spell ritual was more like a dedication ritual.

my first ritual was a self-initiation to my Gods and the craft. It involved annointing with a wine/water mix, and proclaiming myself to the Gods, and to staying true on the path of the craft, very simple, very basic. I was 21
