We have been heartbroken since we had to give up our 18 month old dog a few months ago. He was a Catahoula Leopard Dog/Labrador Retriever mix and snapped at our son. :(
My husband and I discussed it and decided that we would start looking for reputable breeders and get a Golden Retriever puppy when we found a good breeder and a litter became available. We have always loved mixed breeds but have decided for the first time to find a dog bred for temperament. This morning I found someone I just love, who will give us unlimited certification and all genetic clearances as well as a health guarantee, and has been breeding and raising Goldens for almost 20 years. For her it is so obviously a labor of love. You can just hear how much she loves her dogs and their puppies when she talks about them.
There is nothing guaranteed yet because the litter is due around May 5th and we still need to meet the puppies sometime around 6 weeks and decide if any will be a good fit for our family, but we are so excited at the possibility. We will be going to meet the parents this weekend. :hahugh:
Our house has seemed so empty without a dog in it.

Well-bred Goldens are fantastic with kids and your breeder sounds great!

Thanks, I do too. I've been feeling like one of my children is missing since we had to get rid of Shadow, you know?

Well, we went and met the breeder and the parents and grandfather of the upcoming litter yesterday. They were all so great. We're so excited. And Robert was the cutest thing! He's been walking around since yesterday afternoon saying, "Dog!" over and over again.

When I got my little INU recently, I was so glad the parents were both there and I got to watch them work. (Cattle dogs)
Watching the parents interact with the pups mattered to me to and the temperament with strangers handling the pups with mom and dad right there.
I felt confident picking a pup from the litter. And so far Inu is proving to be as great as her parents! :)

That's what we thought too. We also wanted to see how Robert would react to being that close to a dog again after a few months without one and how the dogs reacted to him. He was best friends with all of them within 2 minutes of walking in. :D
She hasn't delivered yet. She's expected to around the 5th, so in a week or so. Then we will go visit them all again in a few weeks and see how they all are again before picking a puppy.

The puppies are 5 weeks old now. One of them will coming home to us in 3 weeks! :woot: I'm so excited.
Here are pictures of the two males. They're so precious! There are also three females in the litter. We don't know which one we'll be bringing home yet. It depends on their temperament.
These are not going to be small dogs. Their mother weighs about 75 lbs. and their father weighs around 80!

They look so sweet. Goldens are a great breed and wonderful with kids. Even the abused female Golden my family adopted when I was a teen had the most amazing temperment... and we fully expected problems considering what she'd been through. Good luck and keep those pictures coming!
