For some reason I'm feeling quite drawn to Hephaestus lately but he seems to be the "redheaded stepchild" of the Greek pantheon. He's even supplanted by Ares as Aphrodite's lover. Not much info out there
I'd love any info, personal stories, poetry or whatever that you want to share about him. :D

Do you want to know something specific about Vulcan or Hephaestus? I know that he was supposedly so ugly when he was born that Hera threw him off Mt. Olympus. Despite his appearance, I really like Hephaestus. After all, he is quite clever. He did catch Aphrodite and Ares together in bed. Besides his clever ways, I think that he is a diligent god. I think of him as always making things for the gods and goddesses. Thus, I think that it is kind of cool that you are drawn to that particular god.
Hey, I will check the Homeric Hymns to see if there is a hymn for him.

I've always liked Hephaestus. He was probably a pre-Hellenic Fire/Volcano God. Being a Smith God, He was a master craftsman and made the most amazing things--the God's palaces and tables that went wherever they wanted them too, Zeus' throne and scepter, Artemis' bow and arrows, various jewelry and animals, even beautiful women robots who served him. He was lame like most Smith Gods and was called ugly, but was portrayed as a vigorous man with a beard who carried a hammer.
He was considered a kind and beneficent God who loved Peace. He is also a patron of handicrafts along with Athena. He was married to Aphrodite, but some myths say his wife is Charis, one of the Graces--this might be another name for Aphrodite.

Thanks my PC was acting up last night and wouldn't load any page but MW! So I was having trouble finding info.
I've been trying to get to know Zeus, Pan and Hermes but the only male deity I've ever really bonded with is Manannaan Mac Lir.
Hephaestus has been on my mind lately and I thought it would be a good idea to learn more about him before approaching him. He seems very different from the other Olympians. Can't put my finger on it yet....
Thanks for sharing! If I run across anything interesting I'll pass the info along.:D

Hi Earthcup!
As Vulcan is sort of the patron diety of Birmingham your post caught my eye.
I don't know if this will help your search much, but you may find some info via some sites originating from my area, one in particular:
http://www.bham.net/vulcan/
If you hit the Birmingham Net homepage, you can also find some links that might provide some Vulcan info, as the city is constantly trying to explain to newcomers WHY we have a huge, bare-assed Vulcan statue dominating our landscape... :)
