My cat had kitties a few days ago. These pictures were taken the morning after they were born. I am worried about one of them (there are only 2). It is very small. The other one is twice the size. The small one is evidently getting enough nourishment to survive, but I am very worried. I hope it makes it. I have tried feeding it with kitten supplement, but it only take a swallow or 3 and stops. *sigh*

Only 2, then there is enough milk for them. There could be something wrong with the kit that nothing will fix, or it may just be very petite.

I hope you have since placed rags or something in that box for comfort and warmth. Kits can use a lot of energy creating heat if they cant snuggle up in something that holds their heat in. That can have bearing on their growth too. Energy used to make body heat instead being used for growing.

They are adorable. :)

What's their birthday?? I'm excited, because our youngst cat (Tsjoep) gave birth to four kittens 24 april. And that was a surprise, bearing in my mind she was not yet one year old at that time.

It is possible that the kittens have two different fathers. That can explain why the little one is so much smaller. It was conceived afterwards... I'm babbling, no?

I'm hoping it is just going to be small. I have another cat that I raised, bottle fed because it was abandoned and, well, what else can you do when your kids bring it to you? lol. Anyway, she only weighs just over 4 pounds. Very tiny. She is an adult now, though, and will just always be little. She sleeps wrapped around my neck. lol

Thanks. And yes, I put a big towel in with them. The pics above, I took right after I moved them from the old Budweiser box she had them in. lol. I also put them on the front porch, as opposed to the back, because it has gates on each end, so the dog can't get to them. She found out really fast that Momma Cat has claws and knows how to use them. lol.
Snowflake is a really good Mom. I go check on them several times a day, and she always has them tucked up under her, and actually has her front arm wrapped around them, to keep them warm. lol. This is her first litter, so I was worried, but she is doing fine. I will just have to keep an eye on the little one and make sure it gets enough to eat. Both of the cords fell off, Saturday and today.

If I remember correctly, they were born on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, the 24 or 25. I don't really know how old Snowflake is, as she just showed up one day and I just thought she was the most beautiful cat I have ever seen. But you can see in the first picture that they are about on the day they were born, but now one is about twice the size as the other one.

How long until their eyes open? These are my very first newborns. They are awfully sweet, although the do rather look a bit like white lab mice. lol

When I checked the Internet, a site said that kittens open their eyes on the age of ten days. Ours will be a week tomorrow (It is evening in Belgium, almost 7pm) and two of them have one eye just a little bit open...
Is that normal?

Time lines for things like this are guides...meant to give you an idea of about when.

Aw, they're gorgeous! How's Mama cat doing?

If you're worried about the little one, maybe a trip to the vet might be in order?

Yes, I am thinking the same thing. Mama Cat (Snowflake) is doing very well. She is such a good Mama. She really takes care of those little ones. I was a bit worried, this being her first litter, but she has really done a great job.

I think I will go ahead and take the kittens to the vet and see what they tell me. Or, at the very least, there is a lady at Pet Smart who takes in orphaned kittens all the time. I might try her, first, and see what she says. I'm sure she has probably dealt with this sort of problem before.

Their eyes opened today!!!!!!!!!!!!

The little one is doing a lot better. I had decided that, if it wasn't eating better the next day, I was taking it to the vet, and when I went to check on them, it's little belly was just as round and full as it could be!! It is still about half the size as the other one, but it is growing, finally.

The eyes are going to be blue, I think. I'm so glad the little one is doing better! :boing:

Thats great news!!
The eye color is always blue or a lightish color at first. If its going to be a different color you wont know for a while.

Thanks. I know little to nothing about new kittens. lol. The mom's eyes are blue, though, so I am hoping these will be. I think blue eyes on a cat are gorgeous!

I know some white cats with blue eyes are sometimes deaf.

But mom looks Siamese or Siamese mix from the looks of her color and points so that shouldn't be an issue for your kits. I had a Siamese that had kits and none were Siamese but all had her blue eyes. They all came out a tan and white broken pattern of color, some with the points like mom. I never knew who the dad was.

Lol. Ok, what are "points"? lol. I have been trying to get a front-faced picture of her, but for some reason she keeps turning her head just as I snap the button. lol.

She has a dark tail and ears when the rest of the body is light. The dark areas are points.
Usually points are desired for the tail, feet, ears and nose area.
Thats why I said maybe part Siamese, she is missing some of the points.
Or she could be full Siamese but not of show standards.

Ah. I knew that.....not. lolol. Thanks! I was actually thinking she looked a little siamese, but I was thinking her fur was too long. The only ones I have seen are the ones on that cartoon......"We are Siamese if you please.......We are Siamese if you don't please...." lol

I was going to say "thank you", but I didn't have anything to do with it. lolol! But thank you, anyway. They are so precious! It is just amazing that such tiny things will grow and grow until they are adults.

I have one cat, Salem, who is black and white, and she weighs a little over 10 pounds now. She just showed up one day. But my first cat, Whiskers (because.....well....she has long whiskers...lol), must have been the runt and got left behind, because she only weighs just over 4 pounds. She is so tiny! I have seen what must be her mom (looks just like her), and she is about the same size as Salem. But she is wild and we can't get near her. Well, I am assuming it is a "her" that I have seen. It could be Whiskers' father. lol.

Adorable! I think they both are going to look for the most part siamese. I can see points on their faces, and feet on one of them.

So Cute!!!!!

It is possible that Snowflake is an escaped purebred... but they will need siamese from both sides to have a chance at blue eyes.

It is possible that Snowflake is an escaped purebred... but they will need siamese from both sides to have a chance at blue eyes. All they need is 2 cats with blue eyes in the genes. White cats sometimes have a blue eyed gene and who knows what dad looked like. :)
Also if the eyes look brown or yellow, the cat could still be carrying the recessive gene for blue. The kit gets that receive gene and another form the other parent, then blue eyes.

2 brown eyed parents can have a blue eyed kit if both have a recessive blue hidden, same with people and their children. :)

Of course, but to my knowledge, most blue eyed siamese looking cats are siamese from both parents =)

Lol. I will let y'all know as soon as I do. I know that their eyes are probably sensitive right now, though, so I haven't looked closely, in the light, so the pupils are always so big I can't see the color of the irises.

Also, how soon until I will know if they are male or female? I thought they were male at first, but now I don't think so, but I don't want to say positively. lol I don't like to be wrong too many times in one month. lololol!

The pee hole, the female is a tiny slit, the male will be a round little hole.
Its not easy to always tell when so young and tiny and its easiest if you have one of each sex to compare.

The eye color is may not change from blue or light, the birth color for cats and dogs and humans, to their pernament color till they are a few months old.
