Congratulations. Would you be willing to share a bit about it - ie. table of contents, summary, who the target audience is, who should read it, how it's different from other books, etc.?

Sure!

Here's the text from the back cover:

Beyond Wicca 101

The Wiccan Mystic is the intermediate to advanced book on Wiccan spirituality that you’ve been looking for.

Perhaps you’ve read one, two, or more beginner books on Wicca and know this is the spiritual path for you. Maybe you’ve been practicing as a Wiccan for a few years now. You might even be an elder in a formal Wiccan group with a decade or more of experience under your belt. If one of these sounds like you, and you are looking for solid information to expand your understanding, or want suggestions for ways to advance on a Wiccan spiritual path, this book is for you.

The Wiccan Mystic takes the foundational ideas of Wicca and explores them in more depth. Learn about what constitutes a mystery religion and how Wicca fits the pattern. Discover the living mystical core of Wiccan practice and strengthen it in your own exploration of this exciting magickal path. Establish strong thinking skills to help you empower your spiritual life and open up new vistas for exploration. Tap into your individual direct relationship with the Divine and feel new joy come into your life.

The Wiccan Mystic presents proven ways to help practitioners develop a sophisticated, mature, yet surprisingly simple spiritual depth. Learn to grow your relationship with your chosen gods and goddesses to new levels of intimacy. Discover how magick can be an integral part of an ecologically sound, profoundly ethical, and spiritually based life.

Explore nonphysical realms and learn how actions on other planes affect life in the physical. Learn ways to discover new knowledge and transcend time and space in your pursuits. Experience how we each individually fit into the greater Divine pattern. Whether you are a solitary practitioner or a member of a dedicated magickal group, you will find ideas and techniques in The Wiccan Mystic that will enhance your spiritual and magickal growth.

I'm not sure which shops might carry it -- but you can always special-order it in your local bookstore. Here's the info they'll need to get it:

The list of online stores in the first post of this thread includes quite a few UK based ones. Besides Amazon.co.uk, there is also Pickabook.co.uk, Bookfellas.co.uk, Sprintbooks.co.uk, Tesco.com, and AbeBooks.co.uk. (The direct link to the page for my book on each of those is in the first post in the thread.)

I know it's probably still early, but have you got what you want to do for a second book planned out yet (like the outline, main features, etc), or are you still thinking about it?.

I know it's probably still early, but have you got what you want to do for a second book planned out yet (like the outline, main features, etc), or are you still thinking about it?.

Still planning so I don't have an official outline yet. But I'm thinking the sequel will be something like "The Wiccan Mystic Grimoire" with more practical material about following a mystical, mystery-based Wiccan spiritual path.

I've also been thinking about taking the "walk with the god/dess" section and expanding it into a sort of fill-in workbook with lots of room for writing and personal artwork. Basically a practitioner's written dialogue or record of their relationship with a particular god/dess. I could see practitioners having one they use to document their understanding of a patron god, and another dedicated to a matron goddess.

And Lupa wanted to see more familiar-related stuff so perhaps I'll need to work on that too! Maybe a "walk with your familiar" sort of thing (although I'd need to think up a more compelling title for that one!)

I've also been toying with the idea of doing audio CDs or downloadable MP3s of the guided meditation scripts using hemi-synch technology to enhance the trance states.

What do you think?

That actually sounds very cool, especially about the more practical things and the familar parts, perhaps you could include some of the traditional witch lore associated with familars, if you haven't already?, 'cause a lot of the books and sites out there about them basically seem to be really "New Age" (in the Fiona Horne, SRW, D.J. Conaway style, etc) and kind of ignore the lore associated with them (which, IMO, can be a mistake, 'cause they can be missing out on a lot of interesting aspects).

Also, the audio CDs/downloadable MP3s sound great too, if you have the
MP3s, will you publish them on your site or something?.

Anyway, like I've said before it sounds great, I'll have to get it (and since it seems Tesco, a nation-wide store, are stocking it, it looks like I'll be able to get it easily, when I get some money anyway!).

What a cool idea! As a solitary it would be nice to have a little structure learning to work with a particular deity or two. I really hope you go with this!

If you could, leave more room then they want you to? Book publishers abhor blank space, but I need it to write and draw in. Also, see if you can get the appropriate pages lined? I do not write in straight lines! And of course, the total wishful thinking request... heavier paper? Doing art on regular book paper does not work: water media is right out, and even colored pencils show through.

Gosh, I'm looking forward to this! I hope you sell tons of the current one so they give you a nice fat advance.

Hey Ben, I've just thought about something that might be good to include, I was remember Carla's thread in Wicca forum called 'Blood control, bondage and trance' (http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=149563), and the topic was very interesting especially the scourging talks and it's techniques for reaching trance, what came up in the thread was that not many books had been written on it, from a Wiccan context, so that's why the next best thing is reading about BDSM and how that combines with spiritual practices, perhaps you could include a chapter on that or something (or say more about it, 'cause the books that do mention scourging or other things, similar in nature to BDSM (and not many books do), will only give a brief definition of it e.g. it's used to achieve trance, and that's the only information), perhaps you could go into more detail or something?.

Not sure if you think it's a good idea though?.

I agree it's a great idea. However, scourging and other BDSM practices are not part of my own practice so I'm not really the person to write about it except as an outsider.

Taylor Ellwood and his partner Lupa are more into that variety of magickal practice though. I'd recommend checking out their books and perhaps encourage them to write more on the topic. Their website is at http://www.thegreenwolf.com/

It's not available to flip through at the local bookstore or I would've already.

So because I can't glance through it I have to ask.

I've been Pagan for a decade, and read hundreds of books on Wicca, witchcraft, Druidry, Shamanism, astral travel, meditation, chakras, mysticism, ceremonial magick, ascension magick, Reconstructionism, New Age concepts, Buddhism, Taoism, tarot, astrology, mythology & comparative mythology, and psychology & self help. What is in this book that wouldn't be in what I've already read? I bought Penczak's Mystic Foundation and was disappointed because while it was a great book, there was nothing new in it for me.

You can browse inside the book online using the "Search Inside the Book" feature on Amazon. Here's a link to my book's page there. (http://www.amazon.com/Wiccan-Mystic-Ben-Gruagach/dp/0615143113?tag=witchgrotto-20)

Anyone who has read more than a couple Pagan books will find that there is always some material they already know in every Pagan book they read after. In the case of "The Wiccan Mystic" the first chapter goes over the basics so that readers will all understand the terminology and background that the rest relies on. So that will likely be familiar material for many people. However, the book is different from many of the other Pagan books on the market as most tend to focus on the how of Wicca -- my book is all about the why.

For instance, why might Wicca be considered a mystery religion?

Why bother with the spiritual aspects of Wicca instead of just sticking to spellwork?

Why include spellwork part of a spiritual path at all?

Why work with trance states?

Why ask questions and challenge assumptions? (I'm serious about that one too.)
