WELLINGTON, New Zealand - A tiny Jack Russell terrier is being hailed as a hero for saving five New Zealand children from two marauding pit bulls.

But sadly, George was severely injured in the fight and had to be put down

I merged these threads because its the same story.

As for the story, I didn't see anything that said the pitts were threatening the kids.

From the story it sounds to me like the Terrier could of started it by harassing the pitts. Little dogs sometimes think they are big dogs and will face up to the bigger.

"George tried to protect us by barking and rushing at them, but they started to bite him -- one on the head and the other on the back,"
If the JR rushed at them, its not a surprised that they returned the aggression toward JR.

To many questions for me. This people could just be sensationalizing the story.

True, the 11year old said it was to keep the pits off his 4year old brother, but dosen't go into details.

In any case I'm sure the terrier at least thought he was protecting the kids.

The description certainly sounds like the pit bulls were the aggressors to me.

Regardless its a very sad story for all involved, and could have been prevented by the pits simply being kept secured on their owner's property.

To me, it doesnt matter who started it. The dogs and the kids all suffer. The kids shouldnt of had to see that and the dogs shouldnt have been put into that situation, my question, and concern is, where were the adults to begin with? Where were the adults who were supose to be contolling the pits? Where were the adults who were supose to be controlling the terrier?

Wow that is an amazing story but I'd belive it. My begal is tiny but she's not afraid to take on bigger dogs, especially if anyone in my family was in mortal peril! George was a good dog, he'll be reincarnated (if you belive in it) into the biggest bravest dog ever :)
