Last night, at around 10:30, I got a call from one of the lady's from our cat rescue. She had gotten a call from someone who had found two kittens on her lawn, one of them dead. She took the other one in, but couldn't do much for her. I was asked to foster and bottlefeed for a few days, until they could find another foster. When I went to pick up the kitten, it turned out that she is only a few days old. she's strong and wiggly, lol. I stayed up most of last night waiting for her to be hungry, but after the initial feeding, she seemed satisfied, and has only eaten a little bit every so often since. She hasn't had a bowel movement yet, only pee, but I think thats probably because she hadn't eaten for a few hours, I think she'll be okay. The woman who found her would like to keep her, so at least she has a home to go to when she's a little older. She is even willing to learn to bottlefeed, but the kitty is way too young at this point for her to deal with. We are calling her Thumbelina, assuming she's a girl. She's mostly grey, with a little bit of tan on her face. She might be a dilute tortie, there might be some more tan on her body, but she's so little, and really shiny, so its hard to tell. We think she is going to make it, she's not sick or anything, I just wish she would eat more. I'll post pictures later today...

thanks for the thoughts and energy. Thumbelina didn't make it, she died last night at around 11:00. She wasn't eating much, she only really ate 3 times in the 24 hours I had her, although I tried to get her to eat more often. She seemed to be in a lot of pain during her last bowel movement. She just wanted to be held. She was as active as a newborn could be, so we thought she was strong enough. I have a feeling that her mother had moved her and the other sibling out of the nest because she knew there was something wrong with them.

Oh hon, sorry.
Who knows what went wrong. Exposure when it was found could of been enough to damage internal organs.
Trying, is what matters. You tried. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt but you wont know unless you try. And those that do make it, its because someone like you tried. :)

Thanks everyone. I just got a call from the rescue lady, someone dumped 6 four week old kittens at the pet store where we do adoptions. The store gave 3 of them away, so there are 3 left. Apparantly there are only two people in the rescue who bottle feed, me, and another girl who currently has 5 bottle babies. I will only be fostering these babies until they are weaned, and then they will go to another foster home until they get adopted. We still have the three boys from the last litter we took in, they are 14 weeks now, and nobody wants them... I'm skipping my first class today because I'm waiting for the kitties to get here, in about an hour and a half.
