View Full Version : How much faith...

I'm just wondering how much faith people put into the cards. I used to believe in them heavily, but recently I've had a few bad readings. These readings have been done by other people for me. I hate reading for myself because I always think I'm seeing what I want it to be not what it actually is (plus I'm not very good at it).
So I was wondering how much do you believe in what the cards tell you?

 To me, They are a guide, not set in stone. Something I should be paying more/less attention to. Not what they Tell me to do or not to do.:viking:

Like any other divinatory method, tarot exists as a guide, not an absolute.

I think of Tarot like a set of lenses. When you read, you are taking off the "lenses" through which you see the world, and then intentionally putting on the lenses that the cards give you. It's a way to help you look at whats going on around you, and see something that maybe you didn't recognize before, or see things in a new light. Sometimes you like what you see, sometimes you don't, and sometimes it just doesn't all make sense - but I've yet to get a reading where *nothing* in it was useful either to myself or to my querent.
It's not set in stone - the future (if a reading says anything about the future) is only one future, or one way of seeing the future.
And it's nice because, when you're done, you get to put your own lenses back on, and maybe a little bit of what you saw through the tarot will still be there - and you'll have a more complete/better understanding of your situation.

That's a great way of explaining it, Sentinel. :)
I quite agree.
And I add, like all lenses, sometimes you need different kinds of lenses for different tasks. Other times they need cleaning, and there are occasions when one must set them aside for a time - to rest your eyes, as it were.

Well I'm of the school that says, the cards are a guide. Man is made with Free Will which means that nothing is set in stone. We can make other choices.

The cards are definately just a guide, we all have the ability to change the path we are on.

I have recently developed 1 rule when it comes to tarot.
"Only focus on past and present situations"
Unless it is something majorly important or I am doing a general reading and I get a response that is heavily pointing to an obvious future event, I only focus on events that are in the past or are presently occuring. Reading for the future is very iffy business, stick to past and current events and you should see more accurate results.
