View Full Version : My tarot experiment

Okay so I experimented with this tarot idea and I tried a series of one-card readings and asked about employment. I asked about how past and present employers viewed me (maybe one of the reasons I have had bad luck) and the answer came up in a reversed High Priestess. I also asked about employment agencies seperately about the ones I've tried; and I got cards such as: The Hermit upright, King of Wands reversed; 3 of swords upright; and 10 of Cups upright.
I asked the tarot since legally employers can't always tell you why you aren't getting hired or what their impressions of you are (deep down). That's what I been told.
And this is an eye opener. Opinions welcomed about what the combination of these cards mean, I've read the meaning of these cards and got the idea but I want a more detailed view or idea about what these all 5 would mean together.
Yes, I've signed up with 4 employment agencies in my area, one of them I quit because I was only getting seasonal work from them and not anything good except money for college. (that one agency that gave me college money was the one with the King of Wands reversed) and the word austere in the reading description stood out to me. My dad said it meant "without luxuries". Which I think it's odd that only one of them had a card like that. The others to my understand meant absent, distant, or conceited as in the reversed High Priestess.
This was all from the Rider Tarot Deck.
And most of the jobs I've tried for were minimum wage, food service, or retail jobs. I've tried few offices and now that I have my college degree I plan to be exclusive to that.

past employment
reversed High Priestess: You've had problems with your abilities, competency, fulfilling the duties of the positions ... or you've been perceived as having these issues, which can be as difficult for you.
employment agencies
The Hermit upright: You come off as not friendly and open, too introspective, introverted.
King of Wands reversed: Not presenting yourself well, you're not seen as competent.
3 of swords upright: You are not perceived as being reliable, unable to keep confidences.
10 of Cups upright Blue skies and sunny days ... either you looked really good at the interview, or the staffing firm is painting a very rosy picture as far as what they can offer you.
Looks like you have issues with interviewing. No matter how good you are, if you don't interview well, you won't get the position, unless the person interviewing you makes allowances for your being a diamond in the rough.
Remember, you asked about how you are perceived, rather than how you ARE.
What is your degree in, and what types of jobs are you trying to get?

Well I know the employment agency that has the 10 of Cups never really helped me but of course they can't say they don't have anything. I've told two different things that I may come off like I'm not good enough or I'm too good for a position. Is this really written in stone.
My degree is Clerical Studies and I'm looking office or public relations type of work.

My interpretation of the High Priestess (reversed) would be more like "inexperienced, unable to work without direction, ideas sometimes impractical." Do any of those ring a bell with the way you've been treated?
For the others if I were doing the reading I would tell you this:
Getting the Hermit (upright) indicates you were unsure about whether you could handle the job or that you told yourself it would be hard for you before you even tried it.
King of Wands (reversed) could indicate you weren't very committed to the job, and again unsure or insecure about doing a good job.
Three of Swords (upright) says you may missed too many days of work or that you were disappointed at not getting a better (and more interesting) job placement.
Ten of Cups (upright) shows that your body was at work but you really wanted to be at home doing something else.
These may be what the supervisors at the jobs thought they were seeing and reported back to the employment agency. Or I could be totally off track since I didn't draw the cards myself and may not be clear as to what you were actually asking. But if so, sometimes understanding why something isn't right helps you to figure out what IS right. Good luck with school and future jobs, and keep on doing the readings. The more you do them the more you get in touch with the inner knowledge. :)

Thanks, I basically was asking about perceptions they had of me. And I just am confused back in 2004 maybe I did look inexperienced because I was a 20-21 who only had had some college and no work experience. After I went back to college and got better advice and job offers through one of the employment agencies (the one with the King of Wands reversed) I was told by my mom that my typed up resume looked too snotty for the jobs available here (which are mainly the min. wage types). It's frustrating, I'm either not good enough or too good for the job (sorry for repeating myself). It's like when I wasn't bettering myself I couldn't get the crappiest job and even after bettering myself and getting mostly childcare jobs through the employment agency I can't even hold a job at Subway :(
And I have only had a few interviews in my life, I tend to do better when practicing for interviews than actually going into them.

I think a lot of people have that problem with being overqualified for some jobs and underqualified for others. I've heard the recommendation that you prepare 2 or more different resumes depending on which kind of position you're applying for. Some places are willing to train people from the beginning instead of having to break them of previous habits.

Having made some egregious mistakes on being a hungry college graduate myself ... don't undersell yourself!!
Go with staffing firms that primarily place office workers ... consider getting certifications in some of the more popular office software (MSword, MSaccess, etc.), and work your way up!

Well after today I'm only registered with 2 employment agencies in my area and I think soon I will drop those. I'm starting to think I'd be better off getting a job through the internet or through the newspaper. I tend to find more jobs through my local want ads than these employment agencies that wastes my time. I think after 2-3 years, and getting practically nothing out of them. That's saying something.
