View Full Version : The Elements and our daily life

I cant help but notice the relationship between things.
Elements are all around us of course, and if you look closely you will see a realtionship between the state of the elements and the state of its quality in your life. Water represents and is the quality of emotion. Do we all agree with that?

Now for example, look at all the water around you. I mean in your sink, in the bath tub etc. Do you have any stagnant water?
Is the water pure, dirty, clear ? The water follows all your emotional patterns, because you are not seperate from it in any way. There is only one body of water and it is within "you"(however you define this term) as well.
You may see dirty water, this is a sign of emotional chaos and unresolved issues. Clean clear water is a clear emotional body, devoid of cruddy emotion. (not all emotion is cruddy)
The two(your emotional state and a quantity of water) are inextricably combined. This is how you can read situations and people. Whatever the condition of the element is the condition of the people. (think of this at your leisure)
It also works this way....Improve the element and improve yourself. This is a great truth. Wiccans include in thier ceremonys', rituals that honor the elements. In so doing they are honoring themselves because they are the elements. Ever since I noticed how things copy each other and seemed to be linked together, I have been intrigued at this phenomenon. (sp)
The theory that the universe is really not all seperate parts, but actually one seamless whole seems to work (for now).

I have also noticed countless times the corelation between rain and emotional states of resolution in myself

I usually feel very reflective on rainy days, I enjoy the cleansing of the environment (especially my car). For months now, I've been drawn to the west and the element of water and this has corresponded to my emotional state. Even in public ritual, I seem to always end up on that side of the circle. My favorite ritual is one that I do while bathing. Interesting what you say about the state of your water - our water is terrible here, full of junk. There isn't much I can do about that except to move. I did notice that during a particularly emotional stressful time, all of our plumbing started to develop problems......

I was surprised last Friday night when I went to a Native American water cleansing and naming. I expected my guides to direct me to face West, and instead I was clearly told to face the South. I also find fire to be very cleansing and may be working with this element for a while now. Hope the house doesn't burn down....

Its been raining all day :) But Ive been feeling very happy, reflective and quite fun loving :)
Ive regained my focus on work today and I think its partly to do with the fact that the rain is keeping me indoors , but also the cleasning renewing aspect of rain, washing away all my stagnant energy.
Ive been drawn to water all this year more powerfully than ever before, I started with sea magick last year but it didnt feel right, but now actually living my the sea it seems to be doing wonders for all my emotions and my spiritual practise. And I cant get enough of swimming at the moment, must have something to do with my pregnancy!

I used to be a fire/earth element devotee but now I feel so connected to water at the moment, yes to earth still but not so much with fire anymore.. hmm first time I thought about that... I have deffinatley changed my outlook on a lot of things recently and Im allot calmer.. would figure!

Hmm now youve got me thinking!
Thanks!

It's been threatening to rain here for the past few days but we've only gotten some sprinkles. I was noticing today that I feel calmer and somehow safer on rainy days. I also want to stay at home more and enjoy being in my space and with my son.

I agree with the rain & wanting to stay at home.. I love the rain, though I don't really feel connected (you might say) with that element as much as say earth or fire. (I am in complete awe of the power of both these elements)

I don't much like swimming either..:eyebrow: Haven't for a long time... But anyway.

Is the water pure, dirty, clear ?

I don't really notice when the water is "clear" or "pure"...I do, however, notice when it is murky (usually after a lot of rain)...I haven't taken the time to stop and think if there is turbulence in my life at the time of my noticing it... Will have to slow down next time I notice things like that.

A thunderstorm started last night right before I went to bed. I'm in an area where they can get scary and turn into tornadoes, and I also live in a mobile home. It can get very loud! But a good storm lulls me right to sleep.

I also love the wind. I've noticed that a good wind always seems to be present at new moon, and I connect with the feeling of it blowing negativity out of my life.

That's cool, Freyja. :)

As far back as I can remember...it's been dry and sunny on the days of the full moon for us here. (Very uncommon in winter, I might add)

Hmm, I haven't paid attention to that! You may have something there, I don't recall that we've ever been rained out for a Full Moon ritual.

I wonder how the different moon cycles and the elements can be related to our divination practices. I'll have to do some research on that.

Silver Venus does have another thread about the moon cycles affecting readings, but I wonder about the elements and the weather now that MasterMoon has brought it up.

I usually write it down..Now I know why.

I'll have to start paying attention to the weather when I do readings now as well...It might come in handy later on. ;)

what I am saying, is look at the elements around you because they are indicators about what you are. Or in some cases the people around the elements. All you have to realize is this:
There is no seperation between you and the elements. I mean at all. In any way.
If the water is polluted you are polluted.
If it rains it is a release of emotion. ( it is with me anyway)
You keep thinking that you own your body and that you are an individual. Well you are, but only in a way. You belong to the earth and the elements. You dont have one molecule in your body that is not of the earth. (dont say anything about particles from outer space ) Do you see?
The indian medicine man, knew these things. He made it rain by building up an emotion and then releasing it (resolving it)...
Do you understand?

It's very windy today, and I felt a release of emotion and stress as I stood outside for a while today. That's my current emotional state. I'll be doing a reading in a bit, and I'm also going to pay attention to any influence it might have on that.

Here, it's been really sunny.. And a little bit windy... Right now, I feel a bit off from the turbulence around here...Might that be the wind speaking? :)

Keep in mind part of this is how you interpret the weather and it's effect on you.

Whereas on one day you might think the rain is cleansing your spirit and thus making you feel clear, on another day you might associate the rain with being depressed or sad because you happen to be.

For instance I've been in an excellent mood today and yet it's windy and cold. My first response would be to say that when it's windy I think of chaos and conflicting emotions, which doesn't really reflect on how I feel today. But I'm sure someone else will think it's "blowing negativity out of one's life". Personally I don't connect the two at all.

So yes it may be the weather is connected to your emotions but on the other hand that's because you associate them that way.

It's like any correspondence. Green or gold will help you do a money spell because you associate the two. So this is all very sensible and logical :)

Myst, In my experience rain is always associated with emotional release. The day I make up with my girlfriend it rains. The day I quit my job it rains. I resolve a big issue in my life it rains....etc etc

Logic and sense have nothing to do with this...you (meaning people in general) cant figure it out....sense and logic only work for your (again people in general) big brain. The one you are so proud of. The one that can only see the world from ITS point of view. This is called the image. The Image is who you think you are. We cannot percieve the world through this image because the image forms an opinion of what it sees and trys to hold on to what it thinks is real. Why do you think the shaman take pyschoactive plants for? Its to break down the image so that they can see the world as it really is. And that is NOT what the image thinks it is.
Thats why everything looks pink to people who wear pink sunglasses. But it aint so. Ill say it again...you are not seperate from anything at all....there is only the universe.. There is nothing else to say about this.
Actually there is much more to say about it, but it is of no use anyway

For you, it does. For me it doesn't.

That's my point.

The elements are "connected" to you because you connect them with associations. They connect to you in the way you choose them to, or the way in which you've noticed their connection to you in the past. This isn't just because they have some divine will, but because of the same reason a gold candle might represent money, and a god might represent an energy. The magic is within and without, part of the elements and part of each of us, because we *are* connected.

The point being, one thing connects with you a certain way, and connects with me a different way, because we have our own brains and our experience. So to me, this idea of elements connecting with our daily life is very sensical.

And there's no need to be rude :)

Everyone's opinion is valued and this is a good topic, so let's discuss this in a respectful manner.

This is a great idea for a thread, but it doesn't seem to apply to divination. I think it's more appropriate for Magick and Ritual, so I'm moving the thread to that forum.

Myst, thank you and Im sorry if I offended you.

I think I'll have my coffee now....:O)

P.S...this does apply to divination. It is the whole reason any divination works to begin with. The reason being is "you" (I mean your body not the image) are not seperate from anything.
The only thing that does exsist is the universe. One seamless whole. There is no mysticism involved here.
So what happens to things around you are indicators of what is happening to you.
The elements are most certainly not inert matter any more so than your body is. Just what do you think you are made of anyway?

If you are not of the elements, then go live in outer space where there are none, then tell me that you are not part of them. (oops you cant speak in space)

Divination is only the discovery of this. There is nothing amazing or mystical about divination. It is the way things are.

( I was speaking hypothetically here, not to anyone person in particular)

hmm, like everything we all have a difference in opinion..
I think the elements do effect my life but more with seasons/sabbats than the elements.. I agree with what you are both saying because I can see the reason behind it, but what we are talkign about here is 'issue's to do without reason.
Maybe because I let them, maybe because they just do, I guess I will never know but its nice to follow a path.

Like the moon reading thread I start in tarot ~ everyone is different ~ its just another amazing thing to add to life :)

Yes, we are all made of water, air and spirit....and fire can be created through yoga ujai breathing.

Since SV already has the moon cycle thread here and I actually think that this thread applies to both, I'm leaving it in Magick and Ritual.

ahem I think the moon thread I was speaking about is in Tarot Freyja ;)

I love doing the fire breath in yoga its so warming and affective :)

:( Oops! It is......I've been visiting it frequently and mixed them up, apologies for the error!

Raining this morning. It's also new moon. I still feel like I'm in a cleansing and releasing process, but also feeling rather lazy. In reflecting on this, I'd have to agree with Myst that there may be times where this type of weather might depress me, depending on what's going on in my life at the time.

The fire created by the breathing generates heat in the body that cleanses the blood and organs. It's air that generates this fire. I don't do it often enough.

Fire.....is in the body..it is the electricity that fires each cell. makes the brain function. So we have all the elements within us, without even trying....Our bodies can heal anything all by itself. All we need to do is get out of its way. "We" is the image.
The body is more intelligent than any of us can ever be. It is a survivor. Has been for a long time. It doesnt need anything that you think is good for it. So stop trying to fix it. It doesnt need your help

Silver Venus

(on a side note ~ I never thought about the air coming into play in the fire breath! Do you use the hand positions by your base and solar chakra's too while doing the breath? I havent done it in such a long time Ill have to look it up again and practise it, although Im not sure if it may be too much for the baby?)

I agree with your note divination Moon but also that our guides are there to help us and they speak to us through these tools.
Do you see our guides as the fifth element ~ spirit? :)

:T I'm not that science-oriented....you're absolutely right, all of the neurons and those other things that fire brain and body functions.....

had this discussion last nite...
your body can heal lots of stuff, but not everything. You cant
heal decapitation, loss of limb(doesnt come back, but with medical
help it can be re-attached) Your body is ineffectual against genetic
disorders. It can try to cope, but it fails eventually. Quick heal?
sure. Preventitive stuff? sure. Re-attach my arm without qualified help? nope.:)

Unfortunately, I've found that to be true also when I was faced with a situation where nothing but qualified help, and unnatural materials such as metal, could stop me from becoming paralyzed. There are just some things that are not going to heal on their own despite our bodies' amazing ability to heal itself in many ways.

I used healing music through the recovery process, and I do believe that it helped me recover from the surgery a lot faster, along with other spiritual methods that I used. I also believe that these methods helped me regain a great deal of what I'd lost. But the large piece of bone that was missing from my vertebrae has not managed to grow back.

One has to consider the millions of cells, processes, and elements involved to heal something like a decapitated arm.

I mean, there are stories of slowing down or even getting rid of cancer through prayer, but you are right about the attached limb thing.
