Hello all,
So I'm beginning to add to my small information on Chinese Ghosts and Monsters, the same way I worked on the Japanese files I have.
I would go to Wikipedia, but I'm becoming untrustworthy of it. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any websites or online resources that are basic guides that I can sort of build from?

LOL, now how would I know you would be the first to post??
Thankyou :) I appreciate these links.
Hmm, well dragons I already have a lot of source material I can draw from... and I kind of combined that section into my general dragons in folklore and mythology section... its up to about 12 pages now so far. The issue I have found, is that most source material about Oriental Dragons is untranslated, and those that are are bad translations. Ive mostly stuck to my few books I have, and then when I start getting in to complete the section off, will I try and find a decent book on amazon on Dragons.
There are a few times where Monsters are half dragon, half something else... like they can take the form of a Dragon and are classed as Dragon Kings... but may be in fact demonic, or even a God. There a great one about a Dragon King in Japan around lake Biwa, who was the local Kami to the people.
This is good though, gives me somewhere to start from :D, thankyouuu:hugz:
Ill post some of my research up, once it's all sourced and properly formatted :).

I want to thank you for starting this thread and since I has been a good while since anyone has posted in it I didn't figure that anyone would mind if I added a question sort continuing on topic. Does anyone know anything about chinese folk magic? I'm assuming it is a part of their culture just like any other.

As in casting spells like the western traditions? I'm pretty sure that "magic" isn't practised. People usually pray to buddha or a deity or their ancestors by offering incense and food. The Taoists may perform some rituals, but other than that...yeah it's different to western pagan cultures. I'm not 100% sure though.

Interestingly, I've been looking at some forms of Taoist magic, definitely very, very interesting, but, here are some links that might help you:
Chinese Hopping Ghosts by Janice Cottrill (http://www.ghostvillage.com/resources/2005/resources_03042005.shtml)
Hopping Ghosts (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=Chinese+Hopping+Ghost&meta=) - lots of links on them.
Chinese Vampires: Chiang-shih (http://www.deliriumsrealm.com/delirium/articleview.asp?Post=17)
Hope this helps, and I'll definitely be interested in seeing your list when it's completed, I really love your Japanese list, and I liked that list of Hindu demons you sent me.
If you're looking to do more, there's always the Middle East, there'd be a lot of great entities there (demons, Gods, primal beings, etc) (I may be biased 'cause I worship Middle Eastern Gods, but still ;)).

Here are some good links, IMO, that I just discovered today on Taoist/Daoist magic:
Daoist Magic (http://www.daoistmagic.com/) - apparantly, he has some good stuff.
Taoist Magic (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=Taoist+magic&meta=) - admittably, these are all links I just found searching for Taoist Magic, but, still, it looks like there are some good links, IMO, anyway.
Taoism and Magic (http://www.thetaobums.com/index.php?showtopic=4488) - thread on the The Tao Burns forum (http://www.thetaobums.com/index.php) - quite a good thread, IMO, and there seem to be quite a few knowledgable people.
'Taoist Master Chuang' by Michael R. Saso (http://www.amazon.com/Taoist-Master-Chuang-Michael-Saso/dp/0967794803) - good book, has quite a bit of info on Taoist magic, I've got it as a download.
Religious Taoism and Magic (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=Religious+Taoism+-+magic&meta=) - again, some links for Taoist magic (ok, I know I've just gone completely OT, I just really am interested in Taoist magic, as well as other aspects of it, the religion, the deities, etc (although not to worship, just out of interest).
